Hi everyone – Thank you so much for being so engaged on the site and in the forum!  It is so great to see the feedback from people who are feeling great and loving the recipes in the book. I wanted to share a success story with you all that made me smile.  This girl is so inspiring!

Check out what Kind Life member Lindsay Wolf wrote in the forums:

“Hey Alicia!
Well, I have been posting comments on here since the beginning, because I am absolutely in love with all the work you're doing!
I have been vegan for 1 year now, and I think my success story can be summed up in one thing:

"Kiss Me, I'm Vegan!" is the blog I've been keeping for almost a year now (it officially has its first anniversary at the end of the month!). My blog has chronicled the crazy journey I've been on while living a vegan lifestyle, and I am so proud of it.
The real success for me has been the response from people who have visited my site. I've received amazing emails and comments from people who were curious about what my blog was covering - and the ripple effect of change that has resulted from their reading my words.

Like you, I've been acting since I was young, and it has been my greatest passion. That is, until I went vegan. This lifestyle has become the greatest love in my life (well, besides my to-be husband - getting married next week!). :)
Thank you for being a constant source of inspiration and encouragement during my journey. Thank you for radiating goodness with every book tour interview you do. Thank you for reminding me to continue on with my journey as a blogger and activist.
And if my blog can be a success story, I will be a happy girl. :)”

Lindsay’s blog is great, and she is so spunky and warm, and her heart is just huge!  It’s just pouring out of her beautiful face, and I thank god for her, she really is an inspiration for all of us.  Lindsay, I am sending you so much love and I am so thankful for you!  Your bags are cute too, and I love the Woodstock photos.  Congrats on your husband to be!

Lindsay is also the one who put together the concert in New York that benefited NY animal sanctuaries!

Thank you for sharing this blog. I watched the undercover investigation of the pig farm and that was one of the hardest videos I have had to watch. I sobbed as I watched it, but I'm glad I made myself sit through it. I'm only in my second week of being vegan and I was SO tempted when I ate out with friends tonight. Now I'm SO glad I didn't eat any meat tonight. Watching this video just reminded me of one of the reasons I am doing this and re-energizes my willpower. I cannot watch this video and then eat meat knowing the cruelty that went into the process. How can anyone? Those baby pigs were so cute, and those animals truly felt pain. You could hear it, you could see it. I wish more people would be willing to open their eyes to the meat industry and face the reality of the true cost of what America eats every day.
I LOVE YOU ALL FOR CARING SO MUCH!
AND LINDSAY CAME BACKSTAGE WITH HER HUSBAND THE OTHER DAY...AND I LOVED HER!!! THEY WERE BOTH SO SWEET AND SMART AND LOVELY...MY MOM LOVED THEM TOO!
AND LINDSAY SAYS SHE HAS BEEN VEGAN FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS NOW...
STAY TUNED FOR HER BLOG ABOUT HER WEDDING....

Alicia and Lindsay,

I wanted to Thank both of you ladies for being inspiring. I started on my journey of exploring healthier food options. Like you, I grew up eating meat and not paying any mind to all of those gorgeous fruits and veggies.

I can't tell you what swayed my decision to change. Honestly, it was something organic inside me that wanted change. I've done a lot of research on vegetarian and vegan lifestyles these last eight months. I feel so much better and lighter now and you're right Alicia, it's in and out of the bathroom. Gotta love it, besides the feeling of well being. I ordered the Kind Diet, read it from front to back and proceeded to try my first recipe. I cooked the collard greens and used craisins and roasted sunflower seeds. I marinated some tofu with shoyu, garlic and a spicy chili sauce then I baked it. The greens on top of some brown rice mixed with quinoa and the tofu was Incredible.

Your recipes are so easy, yet bountiful and delicious! Thanks again and Lindsay, I will be checking out your blog.

Lindsey-
Hey, Since I'm from NY- keep me updated on fundraisers and all your doing I may just join you and help in supporting all your efforts- and spread the word to all around me!!
Alicia - we loved you too!!! :) You are just one of the most amazing human beings! And my husband, Steve, and I completely agreed that you are hands down one of the best listeners we've ever met - you listen with so much presence and depth, and that is such a refreshing thing to be around. :) And your mom was so beautiful and nice!! I am so happy to have gotten to cross paths with you, and I'm even more excited to cross paths again in the future. :)
Aw Alicia, I love YOUfor caring so much! And Lyndsay...wow...just wow...you and Alicia and the KL'ers make me know there's good in this world...and how woefully inadequate I am - and wait wait, that's a GOOD thing. It lets me know I've got a heck of lot more to do. ;-)

Wish I coulda been there, but it's sooo uber-cool to hear all about it.

GREAT blog, Lyndsay, keep that light shinin'.  When I'm deserving (and I'm doing great on the kickstart so I'm getting there), I'll GET that "Kiss Me I"m Vegan" wear - and I'll dang well get some kisses - LOL!
I'm so happy the event was a success! I had planned on attending but ended up having to work.

Lindsay, I'm good friends with Ben Strothmann (isn't the vegan world small?) and he says you're an absolutely lovely person! I hope we run into each other one of these days. I adore your blog and wish you the best!
I just updated my blog guys!

Check it out: My first interview ever with vegan superhero, Colleen Patrick Goudreau!!

Thanks for all the love!! :)

Kind Lifer Amanda Jacob wrote a blog on her profile page here on The Kind Life about the changes that she has experienced since starting her plant based journey.  Her results are so exciting. Take a look:

“It has been one month since I decided to get rid of meat, egg, sugar, soy, and processed foods in addition to not eating gluten and dairy. I thought it would be harder than it has turned out to be. Just listing what I don't eat makes you think that it is quite extreme but it doesn't feel that way at all. It has been pretty easy to replace items in my diet and add more veggies, grains, and beans. The recipes that I have been cooking (I am now the designated family cook) are so wonderfully yummy that it shocks me. If I knew that the natural foods tasted so good I would have done this a long time ago. It has been fun experimenting and enjoying the new foods.

The changes in my body have been another great part of this journey. Before, I mentioned that I struggle with digestive issues such as gas, bloating, constipation, and always feeling full or nauseated. I was going through a bottle of Pepto Bismal a week, taking GasX everyday, and tending to want to throw up so that my stomach didn't hurt after I ate. I was at wits' end in figuring out what to do to solve the issues and feel better. I mentioned earlier that within a week my stomach wasn't hurting anymore. What a relief! I have had a few days of detoxing and days where I was bloated because my body was having to get used to all the fiber, but being the amazing machine that it is, my body has adjusted and is working better than ever. No more trapped gas and bloating!

I tend to find pleasure in the small things so I have been super excited about my poo. Yes, my poo. Not only am I going regularly but it doesn't smell like it used to!!! It doesn't completely fill my bathroom with toxic gases. I don't get embarrassed about having to go in public places anymore. Even when I have to pass gas, there isn't a trail of stink leading to me. I get so tickled about it all. After years of my digestive system screaming at me and punishing me for the horrible treatment I gave it, it is rewarding me.

In addition to my digestive system improving, I have noticed a change in my skin. This is what I have also been waiting for anxiously. I have been one big zit for years. I have been on antibiotics, birth control, prescription face gels, and even Accutane but nothing worked. It is quite frustrating to have adult acne because you aren't "supposed" to have it. As a teenager, it is expected (which ironically I did not have acne as a teenager). So when Alicia Silverstone mentioned that her acne cleared up with a vegan diet in The Kind Diet, I was excited to see those same results in myself as well. I still have a few zits here and there but it isn't at all what it used to be. I don't have to slather on the makeup as much as I used to. My skin is soft too! I know that my body is still healing and working out the toxins so I know that my skin will get even better as time goes by.

To sum it all up, for the 1 month report, my digestive system is working and my skin is clearing up. I am also loving the food and cooking. Even if I didn't have ethical reasons for doing this, I wouldn't go back to eating animal products. Feeling the way I do is more than enough reason to continue being a vegan. Thanks for the support and going on this journey with me.”

This is so exciting, Amanda!  My skin also got so much better after I started eating kinder foods.

I just got this update from Amanda, and things are still getting better for her:

“It has been 2 1/2 months now and things get better and better. I am still free of stomach and digestive problems and my skin is better than it was in high school before all my acne problems began. Before going vegan I thought I would have to go on Accutane again but no need now! Everyday when I wash my face and put on my makeup I am filled with such thankfulness for having the skin I have always wanted.

I also am now the family cook. My parents decided to go vegan along with me and we are always talking about how great a decision it was. The food is more delicious and filling than anything I have had before. My favorite fruit are strawberries. I had one a few weeks ago and it tasted like it was the first time to try one. It was so flavorful I told my mom I had a food orgasm! It is like a whole other world has been opened to me.

Thank you for deciding to share your knowledge and help others. I am spreading the word about your book and the vegan lifestyle. I have one friend that has become vegan and we meet one night a week for support and to try out new recipes. Currently, I am helping my cousin switch to a vegan diet. I get so excited to see the changes in others too! Thank you again.”

This is beautiful.  Nothing makes me happier.  Thank you Amanda.

This week on the website I’ll be posting lots of blogs about my favorite natural skincare products, which were inspired by this success story, and the many questions that have been posted on the site by all of you.  This is going to be a fun week filled with all kinds of great products for your skin!

If any of you other Kind Lifers have stories like Amanda’s, please post them on the site!  I love reading and sharing them.  Just write about your success on your profile page, in the forum, or anywhere else you want to... And then flag it as “cool”.

Kind Lifer Ty-K Berry wrote a blog on his profile page about his journey to veganism, and it is truly amazing!  Take a look...

"My VEGAN Story:

OK, my story began almost a year ago. On Feb 5th, 2009--I began my journey which would result in my becoming vegan in less than 8-months after being carnivorous my entire 64+ year life. Why? Anyone might ask! First, I hated being over 200 lbs, so, on my own, I developed a plan to rid myself of 30+ lbs in about 3 months time. Lost 26 lbs the first 2 months.

After that I simply maintained my weight-loss (as I still do) by limiting calories & fat plus exercising via walking/jogging at least 4-miles per session and at least 4 days a week. That continued until Sept 22nd, 2009...the day I decided to go vegan.

Here's my reason why. Each day I walked UP the steep 2-mile mountain & jogged down it I passed by a cow pasture on my left and a horse pasture on my right. And each time I passed these animals I talked to them. Well, for some reason, on that day (Sept 22nd), it hit me that I loved these animals & felt guilty about consuming them--ergo I made the internal decision THAT VERY DAY that I was never gonna eat animals again.

Of course I "thought" that I would really miss the taste. And, also, I had no thoughts that day, that changing my eating habits would be self-beneficial. You see, I HAD Type II Diabetes and High Cholesterol, for which I took pills twice daily to control. Did you catch my word, "had?" In early November (just before my 65th birthday), I had blood-work done. When the nurse called me to say that the doctor said I could quit taking all medications, can you imagine how elated I was? Talk about an early birthday present! Wow!

So, eating a whole food plant-based diet is somewhat of a miracle for me--even at my age. No pills. No diabetes. No high cholesterol. No high blood pressure. Three days ago I had a hernia operation--no nausea pills/no pain pills, and, I walked my 4-mile course today, without pain. Can't jog again yet, but I'm out walking & maintaining my weight & loving my vegan diet. That's my story! Cool?
"

This story is so inspiring! It's incredible to hear how this lifestyle has changed your life and improved your health soo much, Ty-K Berry

To all of you Kind Lifers out there - if you have an exciting and inspiring success story like Ty-K Berry, write about it on your profile page or in the forum and flag it as "cool".  I love reading these and sharing them with all of you!

claire's success story
Posted by Alicia Silverstone on Feb 8, 2010

Hi everyone - Kind Lifer claire posted her success story in the forum, and I just had to share it with you all!  She titled her post 'My allergies are gone!!!!!'... such exciting news!  Here is what claire had to say:

"I became a vegetarian a month ago and a vegan 3 weeks ago (from eating meat most meals).  I was taking a Claritin or Benadryl if it was bad almost every day because I would have intense sneezing fits and itchy eyes.  I didn't know what it was too, because it wasn't seasonal, usually indoors.  I have not needed another allergy pill since then!!!

Also I have exercise-induced asthma.  Since I stopped exercising daily for sports, I had trouble running, even with my inhaler.  I had so much energy that I went running and I didn't feel any burning and I felt like I could breath deeper with no mucus.

I totally coughed up a lot of stuff during detox, but the end result has been completely amazing.  Push through any coughing or head cold symptoms in the begining.  I hope to make it through the winter with none of my chronic sinus and tonsil infections.

In conclusion, dairy is yucky and The Kind Diet is awesome."

I love this!  So happy for your claire, these are such amazing results. If any of you have a great story like this, post it to your profile page or in the forum and flag it as "Cool".  I love reading stories like this, and sharing them with all of you!

Hi everyone - hope you all had a great weekend!  I found a few weight loss success stories on the site from users who have been following The Kind Diet, and I just had to share!  These stories are so inspiring, and just make me so happy!

Kind Life member Jenny Morgan wrote about the success that she has had since starting The Kind Diet as her New Year's resolution! She wrote:

"Hi Everyone! Yesterday was my 7th day of going full Vegan. I had been Vegetarian for a little over a year and my new years resolution was to commit to 30 days of Veganism. I've been following the eating guidelines from Alicia's book and feel fantastic! I was very addicted to cheese before and I dont miss it one bit!

The first 2 days I was craving cheese, but since then, I've been fantastic! My energy level is up, my skin is clearer, and I just feel happier. Today is day 8 and I woke up and stepped on the scale. In the first 7 days of going Vegan I have lost 3.2 pounds! I'm still getting 1200-1600 cals a day, eating healthy fats (Evoo, avocado), whole grains (quinoa, ezekiel sprouted grain products) and I'm eating about 7-8 servings of veggies a day! I'm loving this and very happy I made the decision to go Vegan. I will keep you updated on my progress.
"

So happy for you, Jenny!  Please let us know how your 30 days went!

Another Kind Lifer, e.greenleaf, wrote about her success as a Superhero:

"I just lost another 2lbs following the Superhero Diet.  This is the lowest weight I've been in 2 years!  And last summer, I was a total nut going to the gym 6x a week and doing cardio for at least an hour. I haven't done an ounce of painful exercise, aside from long walks with my dog, and I'm eating!  And I'm also not hungry!  More results to follow...."

Yahoo!! So excited for you e.greenleaf!  Please keep us up to date with how things are going.

Kind Lifer Jill has also had some amazing results as a Superhero:

"I'm amazed by the weight loss I've experienced since going to macrobiotic.  I started 5 days ago and have lost 6 of the 8 pounds I've been trying to take off for the past 3 months, unsuccessfully.  I've been vegetarian for many years up until now, but always ate dairy.  I've now been eating lots of whole grains, veggies and nuts and drinking tea and water (gave up diet soda and coffee).  I'm hoping the weight loss continues because I have at least 10 more pounds I want to lose.  Would love to hear about other people's experiences with this and advice."

Yay Jill!!  So happy that this way of life is working for you!

Thank you all for sharing your stories!  You are all so inspiring, and I am just so happy for all of you!

If any of you have stories like this, please post them to your profile pages or in the forum and flag them as "Cool".  I love sharing them on the website.

jacei's success story
Posted by Alicia Silverstone on Jan 28, 2010

Hi everyone - I found such an inspiring success story on the site and couldn’t wait to share it with all of you!

Kind Lifer Jacei Spark wrote:

Hi everyone! I'm Jacei. I'm 18 years old and a freshman in college. I've been a vegetarian for years, but finally decided to go completely vegan for the new year! I've been on a completely plant-based diet (following Alicia's book of course) since the first of the year. It has now officially been two weeks and I can honestly say I have never felt better! First of all, I've had exercise-induced asthma for at least 5 years and have needed to use an inhaler every time I exercise.

For the past week, I've noticed that I can get through an entire workout without needing to use it! It's a miracle! I also have suffered from depression for many many years, and thought I would have to take anti-depressants for the rest of my life. Every time I would stop taking them for even one day, I would feel so unbelievably down and even suicidal. Well, three days ago, I ran out of my prescription and had forgotten to call it in in advance, so I had to go a day without it. I thought for sure I was going to be miserable, especially with all the stress right now from school. Well, amazingly, I felt no difference in my attitude that day! I thought it was a complete fluke, so I picked up my prescription, but decided not to take it another day to see what would happen (I kept them close by just in case I started to become ornery of course). I still felt wonderful.

It's now been three days and I haven't taken my prescription and I have seriously never felt better. I totally believe it has to do with my plant-based diet. I know I keep saying it, but I just feel amazing. Like there's so much more to life than I ever knew. (Now I just have to cut caffeine out of my diet and I know I will be in nirvana). I'm so glad there's so many of us out there who have decided to make this transition, and I'm so glad there's this lovely place for us to hang out and chat! Can't wait to get to know you all.

Jacei, I am so happy for you and your journey!  Thank you for sharing your story so beautifully.

One of the best things about The Kind Diet, besides all of the delicious food we get to eat, is that it really can improve your health sooo much! I wanted to share a couple of success stories from site members about how eating this way has reversed their health problems.  They are so motivating!

Kind Lifer Anjali Sareen wrote about how The Kind Diet has helped her out in a huge way with her thryroid problem!

"Hi everyone! I've had autoimmune hypothyroidism since I was 11 (I'm 23 now) and it's been baaad. Unlike most, my thyroid didn't start to correct itself when I turned 18, it actually got worse into adulthood! My dad's a doctor (thankfully) and instead of having my thyroid checked every so often, I have to have it checked once a month. Well, I just had my first blood work done since going all the way vegan and my thyroid is HEALING!! I've been taking 75 mcgs of the med (Synthroid) for some time now and it turns out for the first time my TSH levels are TOO high, meaning (in lamens terms) that my thyroid is working better than it has since I was 11 years old!! I can't go totally off the med, but am dropping down from 75 to 25 to see how it goes!! I'm totally astonished!!"

I recently got this update from Anjali:

"I did drop to 25 mcgs, and I'm doing perfectly well! :-) In another few weeks, I will probably get it rechecked to see if it's even better."

Yay Anjali! So thrilled for you. I hope other people with thyroid issues read this and see that there is a natural way to heal your bodies! And Anjali, the more superhero foods you eat, the more you will be able to get off your meds all together one day! If you ever feel inspired to meet with a Macrobiotic counselor, I feel that they would be able to help you even more!

Another Kind Lifer, Karen Singer, wrote about her struggles with diabetes, and how now, her blood sugar is under control!

"Hi ladies! I'm a vegetarian, on my way to incorporating the vegan and superhero ways...and a type 2 diabetic. I can only speak for myself when I tell you this: As I said in a post I made early, I had to confess I started adopting the tenets and "beliefs" of Alicia's ways before I had the book in hand, as it was delayed...but I want to let you know that even in those first few weeks since I found this site and our awesome hostess, something really powerful happened. Even MOVING toward the Kind Life, my blood sugar is...get this!...managed! :) And I've lost 15 lbs. since I started this journey.

I'm not saying at all that you'll achieve the same results (we're all individuals :D ) and I'm not saying you shouldn't do this without help. Lord knows I'm not - I've got all the people here, family, friends and medical people - and lemme tell ya, I'm teaching them as they're teaching me! AND I'm just beginning and nowhere near totally vegan or superhero.

I've shouted to the mountaintops and here that I'm so excited about this place and it's really helping me, even in these beginning stages.- hope ya don't mind my chiming in!"

And I just got this update from Karen:

"My blood sugar is very much still on it's steady, good, hopefully ever-downward course - I'm most proud of bringing it from an A1C of 9 point-something (damn dangerous!) to 6.8 over the last few months - and just for a little perspective, 6.4 is the upper range of normal...so I'm almost there!! I'm sure you probably already know, but A1C is a measure of how your body is dealing with glucose over time, and the closer to 6.0, the better."

So happy for you Karen, you really are inspiring. Thanks for being such an active and supportive member on this site, and keep us all updated on your amazing journey! Have you made the leap to full vegan or superhero yet? Let us know!

If you have a story like Anjali’s or Karen’s, please share! Post them in the comments here, or flag them as “cool”. Excited to read more!

Reading about the success that you are all experiencing with The Kind Diet makes me so happy, and is so inspiring to me, and to everyone else in our  community that we have here!  Here are a couple of super inspiring stories from community members here on The Kind Life.

Kind Life member Dawn wrote:

"I am so glad to see there are others out there who are near where I am at in their journey.  I have over 100 pounds to lose, and started eating a vegan diet 4 weeks ago.  I've lost about 20 pounds, but more importantly, I just feel better, in every way.  I am more peaceful, more energetic, more focused, more even.
I made today the day I was going to begin living like a Superhero.  I have always believed that if you don't have the life you want, you need to start living like you do!  So off I went to the grocery store where the only interesting things I could find were Miso and Nori.  We live about an hour away from Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, so I feel a road trip coming on.  But I would not be stopped on my way to a Superhero dinner. I cleaned out the crispers, making a dog pile, a compost pile and a wow that would make good soup pile.  It was a good soup, but when I added the miso for the last 3 minutes and then shredded some Nori on top, it became amazing, warming, darn I am so proud of myself for cooking with stuff I have never used before soup!  It was a good day!
I hope all of you had wonderful days as well.  Tomorrow I continue my quest for plums and daikon.  It can only get better!"

I just love this!  So happy for you Dawn, keep us updated on your journey!

Jules wrote about her experiences, and I'm so excited about it!

"Hi - I'm about through week 1 and am already showing some positive changes.  My eyes are much brighter and I have quite a spark inside. I feel so much more peaceful too. I've been eating more wholegrains, less sugar, more veggies, and limiting alcohol (except last night at the neighborhood beer fest - yikes!).  I don't want to get on the scale for another week or so, but my jeans are already feeling looser!  I am hoping to get rid of the excess sludge of 5 pounds or so.  Anyone else having any noticeable changes since living a more vegan lifestyle?  I would love to hear stories of others as they make the change - it's so motivating!"

I just love reading these.  If you have a great story like this, flag it as "cool" so that I can see it, and maybe post it here!

Hey there - I'm loving looking around in the forum and reading about people's success with The Kind Diet.  Nothing makes me happier than to read how great everyone is feeling inside and out.

One of my favorite success stories is from our community member, Tevia.  She was also featured in my book.  Tevia is an amazing superhero and was able to cure her MS symptoms through diet!  She is a hardcore athlete and a super sweet soul.  I love her!

Tevia's plunge into the superhero lifestyle wasn't always easy for her either because of a persistent sweet tooth.  I think a lot of you can probably relate to that too.  But she took her newfound knowledge of cooking and eating kinder and began a vegan baking business called The Lil' Vegan Baker That Could.  Her Peanut Butter Truffles and Peppermint Cookies (I didn't even think I liked Peppermint before trying these) are so freakin' good!  It's insane how tasty they are!  So if you live in LA, you must try her treats.  And if you aren’t in LA, you are in luck!  Tevia was sweet enough to give me the recipe for her amazing Chocolate Peppermint Glazed Cookies.  Enjoy!

If you know anyone with MS, send them a link to The Kind Life and have them connect with Tevia through her profile, because she is the best!

Tevia's Chocolate Peppermint Glazed Cookies

Cookies:

INGREDIENTS
2 1/2 cups of unbleached flour

1/3 cup of unsweetened vegan cocoa

1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup of vegan margarine
1 1/2 cups of coconut palm sugar

1/3 cup unsweetened plain soy milk

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

2 tsps pure peppermint extract

Glaze:

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup maple syrup

1/2 cup cocoa

1/4 cup water
1/4 tsp apple cider vinegar

1/8 tsp salt

2 tsp of vanilla

1 tsp peppermint

STEPS
Preheat the oven to 350.

Whisk the dry ingredients together in a small mixing bowl.

Blend the wet ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.

Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture to form the cookie dough.

Make 2 inch balls and bake them on an ungreased cookie sheet for 7-9 minutes.

Let them cool on a wire rack, while you prepare the glaze.

To make the glaze, combine the maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, salt, cocoa and water in a small saucepan.

Bring it to a bubble over medium heat.

Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla and peppermint extract.

Drizzle over the cooled cookies while it's still warm.

Quickly sprinkle them with vegan crushed peppermints.

Allow the cookies to sit for 5 - 10 minutes until the frosting solidifies.

a few success stories
Posted by Alicia Silverstone on Dec 1, 2009

I really love reading all of your stories and comments in the forums, and hearing about your progress on The Kind Diet.  It is so inspiring and just makes me so happy!  I wanted to share a few success stories with you all, hopefully they will inspire you to keep it up.

Kind Lifer Jennifer Bartos

Kind Lifer Jennifer Bartos wrote something that made me so happy, I wanted to share it with everyone.

“I normally do not post to forums, but I just have to share my success story because I am so excited! I decided to be a vegetarian about a month ago. Since then I have felt much better but still continued to have problems with asthma, allergies, and a host of other issues. I have suffered from sports induced asthma for 8 years and have not been able to run without using my inhaler or steroids. Since starting a vegan diet 2 weeks ago I have been able to run outside in the cold without having to use my inhaler!! Not only has my asthma improved but I have so much more energy now. I just want to thank you Alicia for putting this book out. If I had not been exposed to your book I would still be suffering with asthma and feeling like crap.”

Jennifer, I am so happy for you!  Thank you so much for sharing.

Tracie, another Kind Life community member, wrote this great little post about why she became vegan, and I just love it.

“Hey Everyone! I'm Tracie. I'm 31, from NJ, and have been vegan a little less than a year and a half. Just finished reading Alicia's book last night and loved it!
In May 2008, I had my "lightbulb moment". I went to the Farm Sanctuary Gala in NY and the events that happened that night, and the people I met, finally turned it on. Two weeks later, after reading "Skinny Bitch" and doing a ton of research on health/nutrition, I decided to go vegan and haven't looked back. It was definitely the best decision that I have ever made.
I'm vegan for two reasons: animals and health. I feel that not only is it important to be compassionate and help the animals but I also feel that we should focus on helping each other. The obesity problem in the US is getting out of control and something really needs to be done. It seems that all these large corporations (and the government) are just contributing to the problem and doing nothing to help, so that's why we have to do it ourselves. Time and time again, it's been proven that a well balanced vegetarian diet can help with so many health related issues and we need to figure out how to spread that message too.
I've been overweight my entire life, and I tried a bunch of different diets that never worked, so I chalked it up to bad genes or big bones. Then I changed my lifestyle and went vegan. I never counted calories or exercised much (the only thing I did do was watch my portion sizes and give up soda) but I wound up losing 70lbs in a year and I'm finally happy and for the first time in my life, like person that I am.
Now I volunteer for Farm Sanctuary and Woodstock Farm Sanctuary events (I'll be at both Thanksgiving events!) and bake/cook vegan food for my non-vegan friends to show them how yummy it can be - and they love it. While they may not all become vegetarians, at least they're willing to try new things and learning that being vegan is easier than they think!”

Carrie Lamoreaux’s comment also made me happy, and I’m so thrilled that she’s having such great results from her newly vegan lifestyle.

“So this is week 2 for me, I had given up beef and pork 6mths before getting the book. The book encouraged me to give up the fish, poultry, and dairy (which I have allergic responses to dairy anyway). I love it! Over the last two weeks I have lost weight and haven't been hungry once, I actually have energy to go to the gym, my complexion is clearing up which even prescription creams couldn't do, and I feel so much better. Its great!”

If you have a story that you want to share with all of us, just flag it as “cool” and I’ll check it out!  I will be posting more of these great success stories soon.
