Fried Mochi

I just got an email from Olivia Wilde that made me sooo happy!  She is currently in Santa Fe working on the film Cowboys and Aliens... Here is what she wrote me:

"The catering chef on set here in Santa Fe has been using your book to cook for me...I've been hardcore vegan the whole time without having to compromise due to lack of food. For a snack today he made me your Fried Mochi. To die for. For dessert? Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups! Heaven. Sam Rockwell has been ordering what he calls the "vegan surprise" every day, along with many of the crew. So cool. Yesterday Jason the chef made your rice crispy treats!"

Choc PB Cups

This makes me so happy I can't even stand it!!!!!

Laura Linney, who was my costar in Time Stands Still on Broadway, is doing the same thing on the set of her new show, The Big C. She is having the catering people make a whole section of vegan options, using recipes from my book!

I love these women!!!!!

i had the quick date apple cinnamon oatmeal too! so very tasty. i added 1/4 c chopped toasted pecans. i just got this book last week, so am flirting for now. altho, most of the recipes i have marked &shopped for to try this week are superhero recipes, go figure! :) thanks alica for all the hard work!

lol! That's so funny Jamie! I love the superhero recipes. I'm gonna try the cauliflower steaks tonight and hopefully the radicchio pizza, (not so superhero). I haven't been able to find radicchio in my grocery store lately so hopefully I'll run across one today?

I just made my very first recipe from this book... my very first vegetarian recipe at that.... and it was delicous!!!! I made the Seitan Picatta w/white wine and capers and it was delicious. I was so inspired to try new and fresh things- I even made brussel sprouts! (first time ever... my mom didn't make us eat "green things!" My tounge and my tummy are VERY content!

What section of the grocery store would Mochi be in?  I haven't been able to find it

YAY! Tara! That's wonderful!! How fun!! I didn't get to make my cauliflower steaks tonight, but, surely tomorrow. I also am going to try the peanut butter cups! mmmm :)

Erin.....I haven't been able to find Mochi in any of my grocery stores. Someone here said that they have it at Whole Foods, but, that's a 45 minute drive for me.....sooo...I'll wait until I'm in the area and plan accordingly so as not to waste gas just to go buy Mochi! Very un earth friendly...hey? LOL!

I love that date apple cinnamon oatmeal too!

and i am yet to find mochi. oi dont have a car, and the only place i can think of that may have it is a good hours walk from my flat.

one day soon mochi will be found. i cant wait to try those waffles.

I got the book from the library, read through it, decided to try it for a month and just ordered it on amazon...I'm on day 3 of vegan eating-made the collard greens with pine nuts and raisins for dinner last night-delicious! Made the peanut butter brown rice crispy bars and everyone took one for lunch today! Tonight I'm going to make miso soup...I'm excited to see how I will feel.  I'm in the middle of a bad cold/cough just now but looking forward to feeling better...

I just got my book can't wait to try these :D:D

website update
Posted by Alicia Silverstone on Feb 5, 2010

Hey everyone –  I wanted to give you an update on some cool stuff that we are working on for the website!  EQAL, the tech company who runs the site, is going to be doing a big update on all of their websites tonight, including thekindlife.com!  The update is going to add some new features to the website. It shouldn’t cause any problems on the site, but there is a chance that the site will be down for a bit over the weekend.  So if you come here and the site is down, know we aren’t going anywhere... Just making the site better!  Thanks so much to all of you for your understanding.

Have a great weekend!

Alicia

Hi everyone!  It has been a few months since we launched www.thekindlife.com and formed this amazing community, and I can’t believe how fast time has gone by!  I am so inspired by all of you on this site, and thank you all so deeply for your engagement in this community.

I first started this website after I finished my book, The Kind Diet, and realized that there was SO MUCH info that I wanted to share with you all that I couldn’t fit into one book!  The website launched on October 12th, the day my book came out, and let me tell you, it has been a whirlwind!  The release of my book and the launch of this website are two things that I am extremely proud of, and I am so happy that each and every one of you are here to partake in this with me.

I wanted to create a resource, community, and support system for those of you following The Kind Diet, living The Kind Life, or just wanting a fun place to come and chat. I love to feature things on the website that will help other people in their search for anything eco, green, and cruelty-free; restaurants, books, websites, hotels, workshops, recipes, beauty products, clothing designers, and so much more!

One of the best parts about this website is the incredible community that has grown here since the October launch.  This website is a fully functioning social network, with profile pages, a very active (and helpful!) forum... Basically a platform for all of you to connect with each other and share your tips and tricks.

When I went on my book tour and needed recommendations for places to eat, things to see… you all gave me the best info, and I found the most awesome spots because of all of you in the forum!  When I am looking for a new, awesome product (like vegan ice cream, or mouthwash), I have just posted a question in the forum and gotten so many recommendations!  You have all helped me so much, and I really want you to use this community as much as you can and get the most from it!

This community is really special.  Everyone on this website is so supportive, positive, and helpful, I just have to thank you all from the bottom of my heart!  This has really become a place where we can all come and feel supported... It has become like a little family!  It has been so amazing to actually get to meet Kind Lifers in person, at my play and just around.

If you are recently joining the site, I just wanted to say welcome. Don’t be shy... Post comments, ask questions in the forum, make new friends on the site.  I am so glad that you are here!

oprah tomorrow.....
Posted by Alicia Silverstone on Jan 26, 2010

Hi everyone!  I have SUCH exciting news to share!  Last week, I filmed a segment with Oprah, and it will be airing on tomorrow's show!!!! I can't believe it... This is so exciting I just can't wait until it airs!

Tomorrow's Oprah episode will be all about the food you eat, where it comes from, and how it affects your health.  The episode will feature some footage from Food Inc., and will also have Oprah talking to Michael Pollan about his views on food.

courtesy of: oprah.com

In my segment, I took the viewers grocery shopping for yummy, plant based food.  Then, I went to Laura Linney's apartment and we made some recipes from my book!  We made the Cheesy, Oozy Guacamole Bean Dip, the Artichoke, Mushroom, and Leek Crostini with Pesto, and the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups.

Then I spoke with Oprah by satellite.  I was so excited and overwhelmed, it was such a blur!  I think she asked me about poop... Needless to say, we laughed a lot!  I can't wait to see it, and I can't wait for all of you to see it.

I believe that this will be a very important episode.  If you know anyone who is on the fence about this lifestyle, it would really be worth having them watch this episode.  I think it will help a lot of people get on board with a healthier lifestyle and the seriousness that it deserves.

Check out a sneak peek of the episode!
