airline travel snacks?
what would you take for long trips on a airline for snacks?  I am MacVegan. Mostly doing the macrobiotics but still vegan. Help! we leave in 3 weeks for Cancun and I am freaking out on what to take?

Well if you were open to anything vegan I'd say..

Fruit (fresh and dried)
Nuts
Nut butter sandwiches
Snackable veggies - carrots, cut up cucumbers, red bell peppers, sugar snap peas
Snack bars (Lara, Luna, Clif nectar)

If you wanted macrobiotic ideas... I'm not sure.  I've seen various rice snacks at my asian market that involve seaweed so I'd probably look at those possibly?
thanks Leena

For my last trip I packed fruits, a little dish of Kashi cereal and made a sandwich of hummus, onions, tomato and basil. If you have an iPhone or iTouch there's an app called VeganExpress that lists lots of chain restaurants and what their vegan choices are. Some barely have any and some have a surprisingly decent selection so if you're stuck in an airport and need food it's very handy.

I was surprised last time I was in the Atlanta airport and ran across one of those small sandwich stands and found something called 'vegan wrap'.  A pre-made vegan wrap?  I was shocked to find it and it was good.
Thank you for the info. I am downloading the VeganExpress today!
@tyrDC: THX for heads up on the VeganExpress iPhone app! I had never heard of it til this thread.
Thanks for the app recommendation! There's also a vegan cookbook app, called Yum Yum.

Yay! I'm glad VeganExpress is coming in handy for others too :-) I've got Yum Yum too and one called VeganSteven I think. There are a few vegetarian ones that list out vegan friendly places too I believe, I've gotten quite a few apps that are proving very useful.
does anyone have anything for a blackberry storm app. that is vegan?
I like to pack:
carrot sticks, homemade trail mix, dried apple rings (unsweetened and unsulfured), whole grain pitas (or an Eziekiel tortilla) filled with hummus and veggies, kale chips, and perhaps a cookie or some dark chocolate!!!

Another thanks for the vegan express app- I wish I'd had this all week while I was away on travel.  getting prettttty tired of the granola bars.
I will be in the Atlanta Air port next month, I hope to find that sandwhich stnad on my Costa Rica for and an ECOeducation trip!!!
I fly through ATL a lot - not many good, healthy vegan choices to choose from.  I always bring my own food - whole wheat flatbread sandwich with hummus and what ever veggies I have or PBJ.  Apple, nuts, dried fruit, crackers and sliced oranges.  Oranges for long flights are heaven - so refreshing...an abolute must.
