Looking for a Superhero/Vegan Buddy!
Hi !  I am looking for a Buddy who is looking to make a lifestyle change.  Superhero/Vegan for weight loss but most importantly a true lifestyle change.  I have been vegan for 2months and I feel awesome 90% of the time.  I am still learning.  I have excess weight to loose.  I should say that I am very active but still have more to loose.  Anyone interested.  We could check in with one another, share vegan recipes/macrobiotic recipes and chart our goals together.  Anyone game????
I would love to be your buddy! I was vegan for a while and then was lead astray..lol. I just finished the book and realized that this was something that I want to do and how good I felt before. I am cannonballing back into the pool and would love to have a friend for the journey.
Yeah!!!  Well lets get started!  If you don't want to openly post our progress we could just email each other.  I am ready to start today but if you need time let me know!   I am so excited.  I got the book friday and couldn't put it down.  Literally I loved it.  I have made a couple recipes from the book but I think Alicia wouldn't mind if we used other superhero recipes/macrobiotic and vegan ones too from other sources. This is super exciting!  Okay said it before but YEAH!
my wife-to-be Lucy and I are going on the superhero diet on the 1st of November, perhaps we could rally the troops and compare notes - successes/failures (learning experiences)?
Sounds great!
I am starting today as well. I don't mind open posting so that we can get feedback and help from others as well. I think for me the biggest challenge will be coffee..lol. I will reread the book this evening but I know that she suggests teas rather than coffee correct?

So this morning I started with some waffles that ended up as pancakes since the batter was a bit mushy...any ideas for how to make superhero waffles. I used oat flour, applesauce and some soy milk (vegan not superhero but I am still trying to stock the fridge!) something was off.

I use Egg replacer whole wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, maple syrup, and in place of apple sauce i use Olive oil.  Oh and vanilla or almond extract.  I could just send you the recipe.  I have also made from the Veganimicon cookbook the corn blueberry pancakes.   I hope this helps.
Okay well if we start today lets set a goal.  I am still stocking my pantry for the Superhero section.  I am going start goal setting.  I don't believe in a time line since that puts alot of undue pressure since this is a lifestyle change.
Goals:
Loose 10 lbs+  (No calorie counting)
Make at least 3 Superhero meals or side dishes a week
Strictly vegan on everything else
No white flour or white sugar for 5 days out of the week  ( later I will adjust this)
Drink at least 60oz of water ( a full gallon is my preferred goal)
Exercise 5 days a week ( low or high intensity) ex. yoga, walking, running, pilates, kickboxing.

Oh yeah I forgot for coffee I weaned myself to a cup a day and then replaced it with one cup of green tea.  Less caffeine and better for you.  The tea Alicia recommends is Kukicha tea.  Its supposed to be high in calcium.
OK, can I join too??? I have been lacto-ovo vegetarian all my life.  But, not really a healthy one.  For instance, I would eat processed foods, lots of sugar and dairy.  I read this book two weeks ago and am now completely off of all animal products(with the exception of cheese sometimes) and I feel great.  I love the support from this website.  It is amazing.  Fitmama- my goals are very similar to yours.  Let's do it!!!   OK, and speaking of waffles.... where can do you guys get your maple syrup from?  I bought some at Whole Foods and it cost me $20!

Yeah!  This is great!!  Okay I got Maple syrup from my local health food store for 15 dollars.  Its made in Canada and I live not far from there.   I think since its seasonal and all natural its still going to cost you a bit.  Its worth it.  Try your local farmers market and cut out the middle man.  You may be able to find it cheaper there.

I want to play too!  I've been vegan for 2 years and I did some McDougalling for a while and had some success, but I've kind of stalled out.

I have frequent headaches (nothing terrible, just annoying).  I need to excercise more too.  I do power vinyasa yoga often, but I need to get 5 days a week in.  I just need to remember how i good I feel afterwards.

I'm in the process of emptying the pantry of things like white rice, vegan marshmallows, potatoes.

I would love to share in the recipies and things we are making to eat.

My biggest difficulty is time.  I get up at 6:45 or so and have to get out of the house by 7:30 which leaves little time for making breakfast. I often eat a pack of oatmeal at work.  Then, if I go to yoga after work, I'm not home until almost 8pm which doesn't allow me time to have a 3 hour break between dinner and bed.

I LOVE to cook and I do as much as I can ahead of time, but it can be tough!
Trader Joe's has maple syurp...about $9 I want to say....
Thanks for the tip, I was just at a Farmers Market yesterday and I didn't even look... oh well, next time.  I also wanted to tell you and Nicole  that I gave up coffeetwo weeks ago and started drinking green tea.  I feel so much better not drinking coffee.  Well, my coffee usually contained like a 1/4 cup of flavored creamer, at least!  But, I have to say that cutting that caffiene and sugar (from the creamer) out really has made a huge difference in how I feel.  I actually "awarded myself" with a cup yesterday and it made me sick!! Back to green tea today! :)
Wow this sounds great!  I plan on starting Nov. 1 with a mix of vegan and some superhero...im looking to loose weight and feel balanced and have more energy.  I bought the book this past weekend - and loved it.  This is my first time doing something like this...I eat red meat on very seldom occassions but do eat chicken and dairy - so those will be the hard parts - but im pretty confident!
