Alicia! It was great to see you in CT - As you suggested, my friend, Kate, has begun the search for a Macrobiotic counselor for her son who has Asbergers and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your book -Im already Vegan/some time Superhero and it has given me that extra nudge to spend more time in the Superhero realm. And THANK YOU for introducing me to Kabocha! Wow! I can't believe I've never encountered it before. I'm addicted! I was especially moved by your commitment to animals and mama Earth. Thank you for writing this book - I'm giving a copy to my friends and family for holiday gifts. it is going to be responsible for converting many to a plant- based diet. Next time you are in CT, you MUST try It's Only Natural- The Noodle Bowl and Macro plate are my favs. Thanks, again! Michelle
Thanks for sharing. These products and restaurants look fabulous. As for the purse, I have five older sisters I could extend the pansymaiden link to and as for the Grasshopper, I do think the fish should be free. It does kinda contradict the vegan ethics. I like the old Barbie idea.Have fun at the book signing tonight!
My husband and I stumbled on It's Only Natural while driving up to New England to visit friends. It was so good on the way up that we made an hour and a half detour to eat there on the way back to NYC. You should definitely try it next time you're in the area.
I do love the Grasshopper but your are right--the food is pretty salty there. And what I usually get is pretty greasy as well. But ever so very tasty ;)
I live not far from It's Only Natural (ION). Good food and good prices. Claire's in New Haven is a venerable institution across from Yale. My favorites are still in New York City. Love "Blossom". Here's hoping for more Veggie Connecticut restaurants to start up or at least have some real vegan entrees. Isn't it funny how a restaurant will have Beef, Chicken, Fish, Seafood - all that variety- and not even a couple vegan (or vegetarian) options. Come on, it's not that hard.
Alicia, It's Only Natural is a great restaurant. Mark Shadle is one of the best veggie chef's around. His thoughtfulness in preparation and creativity in the kitchen truly shows in his food. The restaurant also showcases local artists which is always great. All I have to say...the Vegan Coconut Cake...is to die for. The Creamtease frosting...you'll want to eat it by the spoonful.
Hi! I live in Clinton, CT and go to Aqua with my husband. It's a fun place to go in the summer - they have bands. Thanks for the idea to ask for Polenta, as I've never noticed anything veggie on the menu. Sorry to miss Alicia at RJ Julia ...
Alicia I have eaten at Its Only Natural several times and the food is AMAZING! I highly recommend it! My husband is a meat eater and even he enjoyed it!!!!
CT VEGAN EATING It's Only Natural - delicious stuff. get the pierogis with apple butter and tofu sour cream and the vegan coconut cake for dessert! also try the southern fried tofu for a really awesome appetizer. it has a crunchy batter reminiscent of fried chicken. but honestly, try anything! this place is stellar. and funky and cute too.
if you're ever in the New Haven area, try Ahimsa. the kale salad is amazing. also try the empanadas. if you're into raw dinners, try the fettucini alfredo, which is made with raw zuccini. they also serve a killer ginger tea.
for down-home cooking, try Claire's Cornercopia and pick from stuff in the case of daily specials! her soup of the day is usually amazing, and it comes with fresh-baked homemade vegan bread. the broccoli rabe and soy sausage is also really good. most of the time, Claire herself is there.. so you can meet her and say hi. you can also pick up her cookbook there. she makes the best vegetarian chili ever.
if you're looking for a mom&pop health-food store, Edge of the Woods is pretty cool. they sell many vegan treats at their bakery, have a hot bar with tons of vegan offerings, and even a little deli that only serves vegetarian sandwiches!
