hey all
This evening I was having a discussion with my mother and she questioned my refusal to cook anything non-vegan. This included cooking my (non-vegan) sister a vegan birthday cake (which btw was the most delish cake).
This got me thinking - how many of you have to cook non-vegan things for family and friends. And am I being selfish by not catering to their needs and wants?? Even though vegan food tastes so much better than non-vegan food!!
I cook meals that allow for both. One example is that I have a wonderful homemade spaghetti sauce recipe and meatball recipe. I separate half of the suace once it is made into two pots. I make the meatballs and add them to one of the pots. I serve a heaping bowl of roasted vegetables on the side that we can all add to our pasta dishes if we like. Wallah! I have a meal that all of us can eat.
Remember - You are asking your friends and family to respect how you eat. They may not be ready for that step. We need to be respectful to how they eat as well.
Another idea - If you don't feel comfortable making meat, then ask your friend to bring a side dish that they might enjoy (with or without meat) in addition to what you make.
