Welcome to The Kind Life

Hi! I may have posted this somewhere else on the site but I'm a newbie so hopefully I'll get the hang of it. I have been a vegan for several years now and did so because of animal compassion and animal rights. However, I haven't always been so kind to myself - overeating (yes, Fritos are vegan and so is a lot of pasta and carbs.) I have made a decision to be kinder to myself and embark upon a healthier lifestyle. Thanks for listening and I really like this site!

Fritos are Vegan?!  Thats the best news Ive heard all day.  Ha ha Im new too... actually havent even read the book yet (its on its way though!).  I guess I would consider myself a 'fliter'.  I read "Skinny Bitch" last year and it turned me into a vegetarian for about 5 months but then I fell back into meat eating.  Now Im considering vegan but in slow stages.  Im a firm believer of letting yourself have treats, as long as its in moderation (Hello, Fritos!) but again I havent read the book yet.   Welcome to the forum and good luck!
Hi, I started the Kind Diet 1 week ago... I weighed in a 3lbs lighter this morning & I haven't once felt hungry or deprived!  I feel great so far (am also carrying the book under my arm around the house & constantly referring to it)

Can anyone help with the only problem I have?

I cannot find Daikon, Umeboshi Plums or Lotus Root anywhere. I am in Laguna Beach in CA. I've tried Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Henrys, Ralphs, Pavillions & Farm To Market..... no luck with any of them.... any ideas?

THANKS !
Hello everyone :)

I'm Stephanie, I'm 26 and I live in Belgium -Sorry for my poor english-

I just ordered Alicia's book but I will receive it only in January... I can't wait to read it !

I decided to stop eating meat last July. It's hard when you got used to eat meat since you're little... It's hard because I've nobody around me who share my idea about that so...
That's one of the reasons I am here, you know.
I hope to know new people who will help me with that :)

I'm happy to join the "Kind Life" Community. Great idea, great site !
Thanks Alicia :)

XOXO

Hello, my name is Rachel. I just started this diet and it's so hard. I am so busy, normally working from 730am to 630pm most days. And to make it just a little more hard... my fiance still eats meat and lives like a gross, college student. Any tips?
Hi Flubber - I swear I had never seen a daikon or even heard the word prior to reading The Kind Diet. soon after though, I began seeing daikons everywhere...even my always-disappointing grocery store had it. It's a bummer it hasn't appeared at any of the stores you tried. maybe a smaller farmer's market? I think they're in season now - not sure.  as for umeboshi plums, I haven't gotten any yet but am aiming for an Asian grocery store. I think they might be the best bet. maybe there are some in/around Laguna Beach?  the lotus root may be at the farmer's market too, though I'm really not sure.  good luck with your hunt.

Hi Stephanie - I love Belgium. Welcome, and your English is fine!

Rachel - I know long work hours can limit the time and energy you put into meals and food. it's tough. one thing that I rely on is cooking several big dishes over the weekend and then bringing leftovers to work for lunch duing the week. I'll supplement them with soy yogurt or prepared vegan soup or hummus - I love hummus and it's pretty portable. some weeks are easier than others. stick with it. good luck with the boyfriend...I've asked my boyfriend to read The Food Revolution because I think John Robbins can explain the benefits of plant-based diets better than I can, plus he made a few recipes out of The Kind Diet and found all the info convincing. maybe if your boyfriend read some of these things too it'd help? I swear the dividends are worth the hassle of transitioning to this!
all this is just what I've learned so far...I'm still working on it.

Hi Abby, thanks for your message :) Do you know Belgium ? Which cities have you visited ?

Hi there!

I'm Michael, 32 and I live in Germany.

I'll order Alicia's book after christmas. I actually started changing my life. A few weeks ago, I stopped smoking, but I have to change a lot of things else (just for me). I hope Alicia's Book can help me finding "The kind life".

My English isn't that good anymore, didn't need a lot of years in the past.
Please be tolerant.

Thanks Alicia!
Hi everyone. I'm a newly vegan college student from Michigan. I too became a vegetarian after reading Skinny Bitch but after reading The Kind Life I'm full on vegan. Loved the book!!

Hey guys! Im Kristina and I have been a vegatarian since March of 09, I love it! it was probly the best thing ive done for my body...its been challenging since everyone in my life eats meat. i have 2 friends that are also vegetarians but we dont always see eachother so i find myself trying to keep myself motivated with reading books like the kind diet and skinny bitch and surfing the internet for more info on the lifestyle. I really hope to one day become a full vegan! Im super excited about my journey to a healthier life!

Hey Jason and Everyone!

My name is Whitney. I have begun my vegan journey once again. I started last year and wasn't ready as I feel out of the diet. However, now after meeting many wonderful people and going to The Natural Gourmet Institute in NYC I have decided I can take on a full fledged vegan lifestyle. I am finally feeling happy and as if I have found my niche in the world. Anyway, I love to bake gluten free vegan goodies. I will be posting pictures and such!

Nice to meet all of you

Best

Hi Abby

Thanks for your response.  I was back in my local Farm to Market yesterday & had a better look around.... I found the the Daikon & Umeboshi plums!  The plums are not cheap though ($16 for a very small pack).  Its such a great store...I realised I can purchase virtually everything I need there, its organic AND its my local co-op too (much cheaper than Whole Foods).

Rachel... yes, good luck with persuading your boy-friend.  I am lucky...this whole thing pretty much started because my boyfriend announced he could not in good conscience continue to eat meat, except for humanely raise & handled meat. The more we researched, the more we realised, our best bet was to boycott animal products entirely & it brought us to Alicia's book.... its just early days for us...about 2 weeks now.... but we both feel so many benefits.... not to mention weight loss & already seeing improvements in skin.... yey!  Although....it is still me doing all the cooking (some things never change!)

Happy Christmas
Flubber
Hi! My name is Tammy and I live in Iowa- I read "skinny bitch" as well about a year ago and started going meatless 5 days a week which was an accomplishment for my meat eating husband and four sons to tolerate! I read Alicias book this last two weeks and I am ready! My hubby is very supportive of my journey- I am waiting until the holiday is over- then I am planning to transition myself and work some of my menu into my hubbys and kids menus- I know that I need to be healthier and lighter (much lighter). Alicias book is so inspiring and honestly just tells you exactly what you need to know- I loved it!
I am happy to have read it and hope to learn much more and make some new friends here too.
Merry Christmas!
Hi my name is Melissa & I'm from Sydney, Australia. I have been vego for 23 years & vegan for 4 years now. My reason for becoming vegetarian then vegan is through my love of animals & animal rights.
I haven't read the book but I love the idea of this cruelty free/kinder living networking site. It's so great to meet like-minded people.
Merry Christmas from Down Under :)
Hi!
My name is Staci and I'm from Seattle, WA.  Not quite a vegan, though I've made it for 2 complete months,  but I am sticking my toe in it so I think I'm more of a vegetarian currently. My family is not supportive of my veganism desiring, and current vegetarian eating, ways so I feel very alone at the moment. Thank goodness for vegan/vegetarian sites online, like this one, so I don't go crazy! lol!
Thank you Alicia for creating this site as well as writing the book. I got a copy yesterday as a Christmas gift and am glad I can stop drooling over book reviews on Amazon to tide me over! lol! Book looks good so far and I think I might be giving it as a gift to some people I know.
Hello all!
