Welcome to The Kind Life

HI Everyone. I've been reading for a while and decided to join today as I had something worthy to share.

There is a documentary on Global TV in Canada tonight regarding Animal Rights in Canada. I posted more info in the "Animals" category.

Kevin Newman deals with another hot issue: Do animals have any rights in Canada? That’s a question he poses in the latest instalment of the ‘Revealed’ documentary series, produced by 90th Parallel Productions for Global Television. NO COUNTRY FOR ANIMALS examines Canada’s deplorable record on animal welfare and looks at the people who are fighting to bring about much-needed change. It’s part of Global Television’s summer documentary series ‘Currents’ and will be telecast on Wednesday, July 28 at 10PM.

On another note - I inadvertently flagged my own posting as inappropriate. And now I can't seem to undo that flag. Help?

Thanks!

Em

I want to thank you Alicia for being such a compassionate person and for spreading the word about living a kind life that takes into account the well-being of all living creatures on earth.  I have seen videos of factory farming and it makes me ill to see the abuse that goes on in farms. I only wish there was more I could do to help the animals on farms besides not eating meat.

Thanks Alicia for starting this site!  I wish you all the success and happiness in the world!  The world needs more people like you!

Thanks Emilie-Claire for the heads up on the airing of the documentary: REVEALED:  NO COUNTRY FOR ANIMALS.  After watching this documentary, I visited the Canadian for the Ethical Treatment of Animals website at: http://www.cetfa.com/  to find out what I could do to help.   They recommend the following actions:

WHAT YOU CAN DO

As the Global National documentary REVEALED: No Country for Animals showed, Canadian authorities fail to protect farm animals from cruelty. Demand that they do.

Click here  http://action.wspa.ca/ea-campaign/clientcampaign.do?ea.client.id=23&ea.campaign.id=7298&ea.param.extras=Source:CETFA  to send a pre-written letter to your Member of Parliament asking that they hold the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to account for its failure to uphold federal animal welfare regulations.

Write and send an email to Auditor General Sheila Fraser (communications@oag-bvg.gc.ca) askingthat she conduct a review on CFIA's performance enforcing Canadian laws and regulations on the transport and slaughter of farm animals.

Help push for better transport regulations by printing off and filling out the petition created by our friends at the Canadian Coalition for Farm Animals available here  http://humanefood.ca/petition.html

continued..

Please click on the above links to send a letter expressing your concern regarding the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's failure to uphold animal welfare regulations.

Remember, animals cannot advocate for themselves and are relying on us!

Thanks!

Hi, I'm Lawen, live in the UK, got the kind diet after reading Alicia's tweets.  Really enjoyed the book, well went from shock to horror to compassion for all things.  I have been meat eater all my life (bar a period when my older sister went veggie) so this is a huge transition for me.  Finding friends/work mates opinions on flirting/veganism interesting and most are not encouraging but I am doing this for myself and no one else.

Been meat free for over a week and I am loving it, learning about new foods that will strengthen me and help (in a little way) to help our wonderful planet of ours.  Thanks Alicia for this push in the right direction, I shall keep going and spreading the word..

hi all.

i'm new here. i bought the kind life book about a month ago and have been slowly going through it.  i love it.

i was forced to become a vegitarian about 2 years ago when my body suddenly decided that i couldn't eat red meat any more.  then it spread to all meat (except fish) and now here i am!  the hardest thing for me to quit has been the dairy... cheese.  and ice cream.  i love both dearly and am taking it slow.

i'm doing this for me and my health.  i have severe allergies and lately they have been kicking my butt.  i'm tired all the time and have so much congestion that at times i feel like i can't even talk.  short story... i'm miserable.

my family is very supportive.  (except for a few tears from my little boys when they found out they couldn't have "regular" milk anymore... i've limited the amount of milk they drink since i weaned them from their bottles of goat milk at two years old and they were never allowed sugar cereal, but still it's been a bit of a shock for them.)   handsome hubby just wants me to be healthy and so totally supports this change!

yea!

Hi All!

My name is Jennie and I recently decided to try going vegan, about 3 months ago.  Only last week did I discover Alicia's book and this website.  I decided to try a vegan diet to improve my health - I've never eaten a lot of meat anyway, and I love almost all vegetables.  I pitched the idea to my husband, Robert, and he's such a wonderful man that he offered to do it with me!

I am just starting to navigate the website and found the forum. I have some wickedly awesome vegan recipes and I can't wait to share them with you.   I've really enjoyed learning how to cook vegan meals and trying them out.

Houston, TX...

For the last three years I have been following a pescetarian diet. Honestly, I considered it a vegetarian who cheated a couple times a month. :)

I just finished Alicia's book yesterday and decided to take the plunge and go full on vegetarian. I am 'flirting' with the vegan lifestyle and so I cleaned out the dairy and replaced it with some vegan options I found at Whole Foods on a really good shopping visit. Funny thing is I met a nice lady who was also starting The Kind Diet this week. My plan is to try a few recipes this week and go full on next week after I have had time to plan and make another shopping trip.

I am excited. I made the Lentil Stew from the book yesterday and loved it. Today I made Miso soup and Alicia's Magical Healing Soup. I loved them both so much that I made the Rustic Pasta for dinner. So now I have a few days soup ready to go.

Hi Everyone!
I'm Jenn from Maine. I'm 24. I had been vegetarian off and on in my teens. I hated the ideas of eating animals, especially since I've been a proud mama to several cats and dogs in my life. My family wasn't very supportive then, and I hadn't really done enough research to go about it in a healthy way.

Last week I read Alicia's book and I just knew that going vegan was the way to go. I haven't been eating much meat lately and I haven't eaten red meat in 5+ years. But this summer I started learning how to cook and I've really been spearheading a healthier lifestyle and everything in the book just clicked.

I have the support of some people in my life, and I'm getting a little bit of guidance from my one aunt and my grandmother, they're both vegetarians. The three of us bond over not eating meat at holiday gatherings.

But I'm really looking forward to being a part of this community and getting ideas and support from all of you as I venture into my new lifestyle!

Hey Guys!!

I'm Nicole, 24, from Staten Island, NY. My good friend just became my roommate and shes a vegan, she asked me to do a "30day challenge", and it's almost 2months now!! I feel really good. It lives up to all the hype or good food, feeling better-healthier, ligther, lost weight, having better skin...I now feel all that...the 1st month was rough, I guess I went through a hefty detox, I've been an eater of everything my whole life, I've never gave up anything really.

My 1 problem is I'm pretty tech savy, but this blogging thing, I have no clue what I'm doing. I wrote to Alicia, I worte on "my board", I don't know how to see if anyones responded or if I have a message, so if you guys can guide me that'll be awesome. I saw Alicia on Oprah and I loved her&what she believes in, she's a complete role model. I'm obsessed with this site, her Ecotools, I <3 it all, I'm a big dork!!! (I need her book though)

Another thing is, I'm going to Chicago tomorrow with my fam for 2 ballgames, and I'm kind of dying for a slice of pizza ughhh...does anyone know of any good places to go eat? I'm from New York, and have only been to Chi Town once...I'm open to all and any suggestions ;-)

Nice meeting everyone... finally HAA!!

Nicole xoxo

Hello!

I'm Nikki, and I'm new :)  I decided to start "Flirting" with veganism/macrobiotics after reading bits and pieces of the kind diet and doing some research of my own.  I've been a "flexitarian" for a while now, I cut out red meat last summer and everything but seafood this summer.  I go to school in New York and have a lot of Vegan/Vegetarian friends, so I enjoy eating vegan foods a lot as it is!  Since there is so much access to vegan food in the city, I decided once I move back for the fall I'm going to take advantage of all the kind food that new york has to offer!  I'd like to give the weight loss plan a try...we shall see how it goes!  I'm optimistic :)

Can't wait to start hittin up the yoga again, go grocery shopping and get started! =D

New to this but have been working on things for a year with not much luck with fructose mal and wheat intolerances and corn and dairy etc. I could write a book. I decided since I eat little now and still have tummy issuses all meat and dairy and eggs would go. has been easy since ii do not really do fruit either. My hardest thing is the grains I am using gluten free grains only and can not really have any sugars but I do eat things with evaporated cane juice. but there is lots on the list I would not touch because of Fructose Mal.

I have not really lost weight yet but feel good and bathroom (sorry) no issues all week.

I think I am eating tomuch almond milk non dairy and vegan cookies.  Lots of things have canola oil too and seems like not acceptable any one no about that?  The only nut I do get ill on is almonds so I do lots of almond based.

I am a vegan not a superhero but I will not do boca burgers etc all that stuff has like HFCS and bad stuff if you read it all. I am kind of a super hero/vegan but can not bring myself to eat all the beans of the superhero and like my treat everyday.

Is anyone having troubl with weak nails? I dreamed all my hair fell out I get so much grief on being a vegan I had a nightmare.

Hello to all!

I am new at this, but eager and excited to start my journey.

I live in a eastern suburb outside of the twin cities.   I went grocery shopping today and had a bit of a challenge finding certian items to fulfill recipes.

Not to worry I will research some health food grocery stores in the area and will see if they are knowledgeable or have some of the items needed.  Has any one else had trouble finding the specific ingredients?

Hi MT,

I recently left Minneapolis after living there for a number of years.  United Noodles is an amazing Asian market where you will be able to find nori, miso, burdock, etc (and umeboshi...but look for an MSG-free one).  Whole Foods is another great store...go explore it some day.  Otherwise, you can find most of your produce and dry goods (beans, grains) at Lunds/Byerlys and Cub.  Good luck and welcome!  I hope you love your journey as much as I do mine.
