adopt a turkey!
I adopted a turkey after reading Dani's post, and I have my card from the Farm Sanctuary displayed in my kitchen. It's makes me happy every time I look at it!
What a great idea!!! I just adopted turkeys for all of my nieces and nephews. They'll love it. Thanks for letting us know about this! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
This is amazing!  Thank you for this informaiton, we just adopted our first turkey!  I feel so good about it.  Alicia, that is such a great idea to do for the holidays as well.  My family will love to have adopted animals in their names.
I saw this story last night on the news and was so touched by it. It's about a moose named Pete in Vermont and his future is very uncertain. Here's the story: http://abcnews.go.com/WN/pete-moose-faces-uncertain-future-vermont/story?id=9167977

Adopting a Turkey is a great idea with the 'holiday' we're about to 'celebrate'.  I also wanted to mention the World Animal Foundation.  If you're interested in adopting an animal (of almost any kind) then this is a great resource:

Thank you everyone.  I will commit to eating vegan meals tomorrow to the best of my vegan knowledge (the article in the New York Times was quite enlightening) or I won't eat.  Thank you Dani and Monk for the posts.
Oh my gosh what an article. I'm adopting a turkey now and wish me luck I'm trying my first vegan restraunt Friday with my personal trainer whos vegan.
I just adopted my first turkey too!!!  This is so exciting to see so many people in a short time take action - Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
My sister and I adopted a whole flock of turkeys for thanksgiving and it made up so happy. I only wish I had land so that I could ACTUALLY adopt turkeys and give them a wonderful life of sunshine, grass, and love.

On another note, I was wondering if anyone has had to deal with family members who disapprove of your choice to become vegan. I am having a hard time with my future in laws, who behind my back this morning ranted to my fiancee how evolutionarily humans are supposed to eat meat and that factory farms aren't really the majority of where meat comes from. Thank goodness my fiancee recently red "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Saffron Foer, and had a good comback for every point they tried to make. Any suggestions on how to deal with family or friends who dissaprove of your vegan lifestyle?---HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
p.s. Sorry for all of the spelling mistakes...I clearly do not proof read :)
