San Francisco Superheroes!
Hello Everyone!

I am a hip San Francisco 20-something gal living in the NOPA neighborhood interested in hosting superhero get-togethers/dinner parties/drinks etc. I am less than one year living in the city and am over one year as a vegan superhero. Sorry there won't be any white flour/sugar/greasiness at a potluck I host please!

If you're interested in some vegan outreach, making new friends and possibly adding a new weekly or biweekly social event to your calendar, respond to this post and we can all figure something out. And spread the word to your non-kindlife.com posting San Francisco people. Berkleans too!

Hi Casey!

I've been a SF resident for 9 years now. (counting my 8 month mistake of living in El Cerrito, yuck!) I live in the Richmond district with my lovely man and our 4 cats. We're in our 20's as well.

I've been a vegetarian for a few years with my amazing man. After reading The Kind Diet I'm ready to take the next step into veganism. We would love to meet some new folk who share the same values and interests as us. Dinner parties sound great! Perhaps we can even go out to Millennium and Cha-ya and other tasty vegan restaurants around the city and Berkley as well.

I just got this AMAZING cookbook, written by a local SF girl herself, and I am itching to start making delicious dishes from it to share.  Check it out http://www.amazon.com/Therapeutic-Chef-Recipes-prevent-diabetes/dp/0615328490/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263932828&sr=8-1 best vegan cookbook I own!

Cheers!Des

I bought the peta's vegan college cookbook but im not happy about it. It has too many sugar recipes and im not to happy about the fact that many recipes need meat replacement.

Hey Milla-

I graduated from AAU in 2006. If you're in the MPT department and ever get Shaaron Murphy as an instructor you'll get her pro-vegan lectures. She's great! If we can get these meet ups going I think this'll be a lot of fun.

On a side note: I have huge issues with PETA. I think they are in it for the wrong reasons. They get a lot of bad press and that's never a good sign. I also think they go about spreading the message in a negative way and it really influences a lot of common folk to look down on veganism. I was victim to this for awhile thinking if I became a vegan I'd be classified into the "PETA" group. But I've since built up my own way of living and have left PETA to their activist ways.

Do check out the cookbook I posted above. It's really worth it! I'm eating some vegan coleslaw, I made from that book just last night, as I type!

Hey Des,

Yeah i have seen some of the PETA pictures and most of them are really off putting. Also i heard that if they see someone wearing fur they go crazy and insult them. I dont think poring water or something on the person with a fur jacket or insulting them is helping the situation. It just make them seem like they are on drugs and thats never a good thing

M-

Don't get me wrong, I do think PETA has done some really awesome things about bringing animal cruelty to the forefront and spreading awareness, they can be okay, sometimes.

I hope there's more San Franciscan veggies out there who'd be down to meet up!
Hello Neighbors!I live in Berkeley & am in my late 20s.  I've been a vegetarian for over 15 years, but recently went vegan/superhero.  Life is good!!Here's the link to another thread on here with Bay area people: http://www.thekindlife.com/discussion_posts/list/2/6159/1
I'm all for a meet up if we can find a time & place that fits with everyone's schedules. :)
I love this book & forum- it's also refreshing to find locals who are into it, too!

Hi Caroline!

Thanks for posting that thread. I posted in it, and it makes sense for us to migrate over to it since it's newer with more activity.

I wish there were a way to prevent duplicate threads on here. When I first found this thread I felt like more could be out there but I hadn't found them yet. Thanks for connecting them.

Cheers,
Des
