Beachbody (P90X, TurboJam, etc.) Home Workout Coach & "Flirt"
Hi there. I'm Nina.  I am a Independent Fitness Coach for TeamBeachbody.  I started my journey long ago at 70 pounds overweight after being in a really tough marriage for 7 years. Feeling down, I watched a P90 infomercial in 2003 and ordered. I lost 17 pounds in the first month. That was the beginning. I've since done just about every program as they've come out and when the company decided to eschew retail and turn it over to the customers, I hopped on board. I love it.
I'm here to learn to help others achieve their goals & to be a better coach. I will answer whatever questions you have regarding the workouts, but ONLY if you let me pick your brains about the best way to nourish a body for fitness.  I know about nutrition but I'm still in foreign waters with some vegan ingredients and putting meals TOGETHER to make nutritional sense/balance.  But, I'm learning and credit Alicia's book for a lot of that.  Watched Food, Inc. last week and that sealed the deal.  If you'd like to know more about me, want to purchase a program and aren't sure which one, already have one, you can click on my profile, I keep an offsite blog as well. I look forward to building a knowledge base from what I read here, I hope I can help you too.
Nina

This is a wonderful invitation and I'd like to take you up on that.  I'm really into research about recipes, and even though I'm not an expert, I do experiment with a few recipes weekly.
I love reading books and I find learning things that are challenging from a children's level makes becoming an expert faster.  (I learned basic Spanish from a 6th grade workbook and flash cards)  Even blog about my adventures in cooking (only on this site).
I look forward to drilling you full of questions and vice versa! smiley-cool.gif

I'm almost done with my second round of P90x classic and will be starting P90x Plus with my husband after we take a couple of weeks off.  While I don't need any coaching, you can definitely drop me a line if you have any questions about veganism as it pertains to workouts.  One book that goes into vegan nutrition and fitness is Brennan Brazier's book "Thrive".  He doesn't really delve into the kinds of day to day recipes that I cook however.  Feel free to ask me anything - I obviously didn't follow the nutrition plan that goes with P90x, but I still figured out a system of properly fueling my body to maximize workouts.  It's awesome to be able to challenge the incorrect stereotype that the public has about vegans and hand out some tickets to the gun show ;-)
Hi there! smiley-laughing.gif I get notifications to my email address when someone wants to add me as a friend and when I get a private message but not when someone posts after I post. I don't know if this site has that feature and I just don't know where it is yet or if I'm just to rely on the "Discussions I've posted in" tab...which is how I got back here.   I need a GPS for this website, it's so fun to click around that I get lost. smiley-embarassed.gif
Lindsay - I was in my message box first so I answered you there there! P90X+ is going to be fun, you can mix it among the X workouts or do it on its own. Quick & Intense!   The woman in those workouts is my dear friend Traci, she and I met in 2003 when we were in the P90Xplorer group (first public group to do the X).   If I can tear myself away from this site, I'll be going to seek out Thrive.  I need the information, LOVE recipes, but the information behind the food's fuel for the body is key. The world needs more women with guns  - display them proudly! smiley-cool.gif
Sarah -  I started reading your blog posts and then thought I should come in here before I got lost in them - loved the near bludgeoning of the squash and having to hammer it on the counter for your guy to have to come save you (or did he save the squash?)  I think that was a big hint for me to buy them pre-split at the grocer!Ok- here's a question:Besides quinoa, what grain is your fave for protein, fiber, taste, adaptability to dishes, etc. ? thanks!

Nina- smiley-laughing.gif Happy to hear you liked the blog, I really get my aggravation out on that veggie!  So far my favorite grain for protein would have to be amaranth.  You can add it to a bowl for cereal in the morning or even pop it like popcorn for a movie night.  I've read recipes about using to make bread, but I haven't tried it yet.
My question to you: What would you say is a good percentage between cardio and strength training in a week?  50/50, 60/40?
Lindsay- Thanks for the idea of the book.  Fitness and food, sounds like the combo I'm looking for.

Sarah -  That's funny I was just at your profile looking at your lentil soup! smiley-cool.gif  I guess I would say that the best percentage is what you are willing to do and love it.  smiley-kiss.gif   My recommendations would also take into consideration your goals and age and stuff like that. Weight training is good for everyone for a myriad of reasons and essential as you get older, and I love it for women.  Such a lovely lovely look for a woman to look strong and able and still shapely and sexy.  Women don't have the tendency to get bulky unless they're REALLY trying. If you like cardio then a lighter weight, higher reps (failing at 13-15 reps) and older would be better off (bone density reasons & metabolism stoking) using a heavier weight, slow lifting and failing at 8-10.    People tend to love cardio, but I would incorporate a good weight day at the very least, one day, but I would recommend 2 our of 6 workout days be a sculpting day.
oh...and amaranth, hmmm.  So far I've only seen the word written.  smiley-undecided.gif  I'm currently a quinoa and whole wheat couscous fan.
Hi Nina, I've purchased some beachbody products in the past some I liked and some not so much.  TurboJam is my favorite even though I have not used the tapes in a while.  I've also seen the informercials for P90X, but it looks a little difficult.  I have the Fluidity system which is not by Beachbody and just recently purchased the TotalGym, which I'm thinking about sending back.
I'm interested in losing weight as well as developing long lean muscles which is why I purchased Fluidity.  I'm thinking that I can combine TurboJam with Fluidity and get the results I'm looking for.  Do you have any suggestions on products or other fitness program that can help me achieve some results?
Hi there, I'll have to look up "Fluidity", as I'm not familiar with it.  I bought a Total Gym, I sent it back, it's just too...I don't know, "blah" for me, not enough of a satisfying feeling afterwards I guess.
P90X is absolutely difficult, however, doable for just about any body, it's mainly meant for muscle & fitness building, the weight loss happens but it's not the main purpose of the program. (the weight loss comes as a result of the muscle mass being built and metabolism being stoked up). I really love Turbo Jam (am certified to teach TurboKick, which is the gym version)  That program is great for losing weight and it's fun at the same time, I think doing the sculpt twice a week would produce more results.
I'll visit your profile page to get more info on the basics and we can talk about your goals and what a good fit would be, there's a lot out there!
Nina

Hi Nina,
How long have you been a coach?  I have been a coach for about a year. Just getting started on promoting the business end of it now.

I look forward to getting to know you better.

Cheryl
Hi Cheryl, I've been with BB since 2003, become a coach when the opportunity opened up since I was already doing what a coach does, but now I could get paid for it.  (Back in the day, the coaching we did on the message boards was rewarded with $10 off coupons - isn't that funny?) I joined as a team member of one of my best friends (Traci Morrow).    if you want to talk biz, we can message each other.
Are you vegan or vegetarian? what program are you doing?
Pasta?  protein?  vegan? what?
Nutrition Kitchen Whole Soybean Pasta.100% organicone ingredient whole organic soybeanswheat freegluten free
I had it with marinara sauce and vegan "parmesan" (vega parma), tomorrow I'll have some with vegan pesto. mmmm.
No, the pasta doesn't taste exactly like the stuff with eggs in it however, it's better in texture than I've had with other grain pastas (I've tried rice, wheat, spelt, etc etc).  And ya CAN'T BEAT the ONE INGREDIENT! awesome. Another reason I recommend this to people I coach is it's 23 grams of protein a serving. yep, you read that right!  It has carbs but the fiber offsets those well!   per serving:210 calstotal fat 2.5gsodium 10mg carb 24g fiber11gsugar 1g protein 23g will post pics of products on my profile page in a minute.  smiley-smile.gif

Hi! I am new to this website, and I clicked here because I am also using P90x. I LOVE IT! I have to be honest, I was not sure that I would have as much energy to continue the workout, now that I am "Flirting" with becoming Vegan. I have been off of meat for about a week and a half now, and FEEL great! My workouts are still strong, and all is goo so far!
Nice to meet you Jessica!     smiley-cool.gif How far along are you with P90X? I love it when women tackle P90X because it really can do a lot to really contour the shape into a great "womanly" shape, totally breaking that myth about women "getting bigger".It takes some widening of knowledge about what's available to you and that's what we're doing here!  Have you tried seitan or tempeh?  I haven't yet.

For y'all interested in body/mind/fitness and the best nutrition all rolled into one, I wanted to share this with you.
In The Kind Diet, Alicia Silverstone mentions many stellar athletes who are/were vegans. (Boy, if I could have a chat with Bruce Lee..) ANYWAYS, one of the super athletes is Brendan Brazier, which she profiled.  I looked into his website and he has a pretty cool and super informative newsletter/auto-email that you can subscribe to called Thrive in 30  It's 30 days of cool information on a related subject to your best mind/body fitness.
I have no affiliation with his website, but I'm on Day 9 of the newsletter and am really liking the detailed information and think that like-minded peeps here would enjoy it as well.  Some of it you might know, but I bet you'll find a new nugget of insight or info in every newsletter.  smiley-smile.gif
