Rheumatoid Arthritis
Hi- I have pretty active RA, and I am wondering if anyone has noticed any difference in their disease progression or remission when following the Kind Diet.  I just bought the book today and am going to go read it since my kids finally fell asleep!  Thank you for any input.
Hi Jean,I immediately place my RA patients on a vegan diet and have them avoid all dairy products like poison. I have documented remissions in the majority. Even minute amounts of dairy protein can reactivate the disorder so avoid any foods made with casein or whey. Dietary restriction is the best way to treat this disease and often results in remission, the superhero plan would be perfect.
Justin
Hi, Justin- thanks for the post!  I am starting my fourth week of superhero, and I must say I do feel better.  I skipped the methotrexate and am not planning on taking the Enbrel this week, just to see what happens.  Any idea how long it takes for milk proteins to exit the body?  I hope it is not like gluten, which I think can hang out for 6-8 months after you stop eating it!  Have a great day!
Jean, Your post contains excellent news. Most patients who can identify the offending food or ingredient experience rapid improvements. Four or five weeks will often be long enough. If you are feeling better by now you are home free! Don't worry too much about discontinuing your medications too quickly. You may want to go off them slowly.
Remember to check every label for milk or dairy ingredients. Casein or whey are milk proteins. Do not consume even tiny amounts of these ingredients. Your symptoms will slowly lessen over time, I am so happy for you!
Justin
Hi Jean, I was on methotrexate for two years due to a chronic inflammatory disease, and I tried the superhero diet on a whim.  It has been about 7 months, and totally life changing!  I'm off all medications, and usually only have flare-ups when I'm really stressed out.  I hope you stick with it, because it really has worked for me.  It has been a real eye opener.  I took all of those toxic medications without a second thought, and now could never imagine poisong my body like that.  Good luck to you:)

my mom took meat, dairy, processed foods, artificial additives/color and processed sugar out of her diet and her RA went into remission for over 20 years - she is now 77 and has not been on any medication at all for 20 years - when she does have to go to a doctor for anything, they are always in disbelief - that a person of 77 is not on any meds (how freakin' sad is THAT???) but mostly that someone with such a chronic disease is med free and doing well - and looks like she is 65!  keep it up and good luck!
This thread should be required reading for every rheumatologist.
So, Justin, do you think this will work for age related arthritis, too?  It seems to be helping Ann's mother.
Osteo-arhritis is just as rare in the east as is rheumatoid. The superhero plan would be an excellent choice.
Hi Jean!
I was diagnosed with R.A.  this summer and immediately went back to a stricter vegetarian diet (working toward vegan).  I have noticed a great improvement!  I believe you will also.  Vegetarina diets are vital for people with immunological disorders.  I am glad to see you are already improving.  Keep us posted.  What helps you may help me and vis versa.  Good Luck!
Justin, I wish you were MY doctor!  You wouldn't believe how archaically minded many physicians still are.  Most have no clue about Integrated Medicine.  Thanks for your posts.
When the diet is balanced there is little or need no need for doctors or medicine. When the diet is imbalanced doctors and medicine are of little use.
All physicians act according to our training. When dietary therapy is  ridiculed or scoffed at by the establishment, it is very understandable that the rank and file would accept that assessment.
There is an element of danger for any conventional physician to accept even the premise that dietary habits have an effect on autoimmune disorders. Their state board, malpractice carrier and or professional organizations could come down very hard.
Try to understand your doctor. Use them for the strengths that they offer. Ignore their silliness and understand that you know more about your health than they do.
They know more about your diseases.
I wish you were my doctor too! Very rare to find Dr's who want to help you find natural ways etc. I've been vegan since i was hospitalised with AS, and i was paralysed. I got it pretty severely but i really believe the diet helped keep my body as strong as possible and i have avoided going on Methotrexate, although i am on prednisolone, and morphine sulphate, amytriptaline  (currently cutting down) and others, i also had a steroid injection into my scaroilliac on monday which was SO horrible. i hate drugs and tried to survive on arnica for the first 5 days (i'm a hippy at heart), but i know i need them right now to help me walk. Just started walking again. So yes, diet really helps i think, it can't do any worse anyway!
I just wish morphine withdrawal wasn't so ghastly - i got dwn from 120mg to 10mg and then i had a fall and couldn't walk or move again so dr upt my dose to 40mg which helped me, now i'm down to 30mg...argh what an annoying cycle!
good luck and hugs all round
Helly, Wow that is terrible news. I assume you were diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis?  Don't be too afraid of treatment, it is warranted. You might want to consider acupuncture, it can be used in conjunction with standard therapies.
I'm very glad that the doctors that were trained in emergency medicine were available and equipped to treat you effectively and quickly, possibly saving you from more dire complications. It is a good example of how we all should work together without disparaging each other's methods.
Now is the time for the superhero plan.
Good morning all!  I would like to add, that without being diagnosed, I suffered for about 10 years+ with symptoms similar to RA, though I had been told it was most likely due to years of ballet training.  Getting corn out of my diet (which I am allergic to) helped tremendously.  But now that I am vegan (mostly superhero), I never take meds either.  And I was on meds daily for almost a decade!
