Diva Cup & Menstrual Stuff---yup, I'm going there! :)

I LOVE my Diva Cup and wish I had known about it years ago.  It took me a cycle or two to get used to it and learn the best way for my body to put it in and take it out, but now I actually forget that it is that time of the month. There are a lot of different brands, sizes, colors, etc. out there.  I found the following site to be very informative:

I use a Mooncup and I LOVE it! smiley-smile.gif Best invention ever, makes everything so easy and it's so good for the environment and your body. Makes my cycle much shorter too!

I never thought I would type this sentence, but I just ordered my first Diva Cup.  Let the new adventure begin... well, in another 21 days.  :o)
I have gone from a 2 year vegetarian to a 1.something month vegan and I have to say I am noticing a change in my cycle for sure; less cramping and I definitely noticed my mood did not fluctuate.  In the past, the week before I was about to start, I could and would cry at the drop of a hat and all the normal indicators would hit me all at once.  From there I could simply count 6 days and Bam! - Helloooo cycle.  This time since I've made the switch to my diet, no clue what-so-ever.  I did have Day 1 cycle tummy but that was even less severe then the normal.  Cool stuff, just really cool stuff going on here !!!

I am so glad we are talking about this---has anyone ever struggled with the size? I think mine is a bit too big for me, I maybe should ordered the smaller one....have anyone experienced this?

TMcD--Hahahaha!! I know, I sorta felt the same way. but me too, same with the cycle and so on and I noticed it immediately.....like we've only been vegan for one month and veg for 2 and so much change in such little time? That in itself is enough to keep me motivated! Be patient as you learn to use the Cup, it is awesome when you get the hang of it, but like most things, it'll take a couple of tries to "find your groove". You'll get it! And that step alone will take cramping away...it is so gross to think that tampons and bleach and whatever else actually makes our cycle worse!

We watched "Sicko" last night...seeing the American 'Health' System in that light sure opened my eyes.....and has anyone watched "Food Inc"? I'm a little scared to, but will at some point. it is hard for me to get my head around that big companies know they are harming us and just doing it anyway!

Have an awesome day!

I have a DivaCup and I have been using it for 6 months now.  I love it.  No more buying those stinking tampons.  If you have been leeking you need to move it around alittle.  I usually pull it down and push it back up.  Mine is made out of silicone so when my month is up I boil it for an hour, let it air dry and put it back in its bag.
I use The Keeper, have been using it for years. Very convenient once you get used to it. It's made from rubber and very easy to clean.
I just ordered one today! I'm excited to start using it and being more eco-friendly.

And for joanne rehage a friend of mine says if it doesn't "catch" anything, or seems to big, or its end (that part that pokes out) seems too large, just turn it inside out
I love my Diva Cup!!  I haven't been eating superhero long enough to know if it will affect my cycle, but I know the Diva Cup did.  It took me a couple of months to get used to it, but when I did I notice my cycle started getting shorter and lighter, and I no longer get the backaches I used to.

I was vegetarian for about a year and a half, then started eating meat again when my SO and I started ordering the Angel Food Network boxes to try and save money on groceries.  Around that same time, two other things happened as well: I started using my Diva Cup, and I started getting UTI symptoms every month around the start of my cycle.  It usually cleared up a few days after my cycle, but I figure that had more to do with the amount of cranberry juice I downed than anything else!

I have been worried that somehow the Diva Cup was responsible for my UTI symptoms.  However, no big surprise here, a few months ago when I went back to my vegetarian ways, the UTI's cleared up!  Turns out, it was meat that was causing it!

Anyway, length of the post aside, back on topic:  I LOVE my Diva Cup!!!  I highly recommend one to everyone (not brand specific).  I even wrote a note on Facebook for all my female friends to tell them how great it was!  :)

I have to say that I could never get used to the Diva cup, but I love this post because I think pads/tampons are up there with diapers as far as ick factor in the landfills (diapers being #3 of the highest number of things in landfills).

I do, however love, love, love Lunapads. They are reusable, super comfy pads. The site is lunapads.com. That's where I first learned about the Diva cup, too. I read the site a lot before ordering, and the testimonials seemed a little emotional sometimes, but they are totally true. I just felt so much more comfortable wearing these cloth pads, and somehow more connected, that my cycle didn't seem so terrible anymore. So many of us treat our cycles as a terrible time to suffer through until it's over, instead of celebrating it and treating ourselves well as we go through it. It sounds silly, but they really changed the way I felt about my cycle. Also, reading the book Cunt can be a life changer when it comes to some of this stuff(don't judge by the name - you have to read it!).
I was skeptical about using the Diva Cup-when you've only been made aware of tampons and pads, initially the concept of "cups" is bizarre! But, I thought I'd give it a try; I've been using it for about 6 months now, and I will never go back to anything else! Once you get a little practice, about two periods and I felt really comfortable) it's easier than any of the other products. The maintenance is so minimal. You can sleep in it. I love it!

I had the Diva Cup and loved the idea - but every single month for ten months I'd have a huge, embarassing leak because although it felt like I had put it in right - I hadn't.  I was so discouraged (and embarassed!)  that I finally gave up.  I do use OB tampons so that there is no "applicator" - so unnecessary.

Anyone else have persistent problems with this?  My period is very heavy, and lasts for five to six days.  Anyone recommend a different brand so that I could try again????

I'm serious about Lunapads. They are awesome. And you can adjust them for heavier or lighter flows. I used tampons for a long time. I didn't like the way pads felt (I can only imagine how a poor baby feels!), tried the Diva cup and couldn't get it just right, either, so then I switched to Lunapads after A LOT of consideration. They're so comfy and I love them.

I've been using a Mooncup for 3 years.  It's the hypo-allergenic version of the Keeper.  I've only ever had it leak once, maybe twice, and I think I hadn't positioned in properly.  Those of you who've had problems, you might need to try a different size, make sure you're positioning it properly, OR make sure you're cleaning out the little holes at the top when you empty it.  Someone asked about the stem: you can trim it to whatever length is comfortable with you, and cut it completely off you need to.

I'm going to sound like I work for the company, but I really think it's something everyone should try.  It's more cost effective...you buy one for £20ish, and it lasts for about 10 years.  It's better for you...tampons and pads are linked to vag infections, UTI's, and toxic shock syndrome.  Mooncups and their cousins are not linked to any of these!  They are better for the environment...think of all the waste that's created by tampons and pads.

Don't be put off by early experiences of it.  Learning to insert and take it out...not pleasant!  But it gets much much easier.

I tried and tried, and could not get that darn cup to position properly or come out well, and I've tried two different sizes (Diva - but if you have any specific suggestions, I'm willing to give it a go again). Reusable pads have not had the same reactions attributed to them as pesticide-saoked cotton tampons and pads, so I would encourage anyone wary of cups, or having issues using them properly to check out the pads. Lunapads are nice because you can change out the liners without changing the whole pad, so it's easy to stay nice and fresh. Now I sound like an add, but I really have come to view my cycle in a more positive way, even if I don't plan on having children, it's a natural part of us.

I've been very curious about trying the Diva Cup, but I'm leery. Although my periods are lighter, there are still some heavy days, and (since we're already there) how does the Diva handle clots? I still have them, but they are smaller than pre-vegan. I work 12 hour shifts at my job and I just don't know how well the Diva would work under those circumstances. Any one else have experience in a similiar situation?
