oprah tomorrow.....
I tried to set my DVR from work and was so disappointed when I got home to see the program didn't record.  I watched Food Inc about a month ago and have implimented some changes to my grocery shopping, eating and ideas of food.  I've discovered that organic really doesn't cost that much more than the other produce- especially when you start to do away with so many other processed foods at $3/package.  Food Inc definitely sparked my interest to find the right path for feeding myself and my children.  I clicked through Oprah.com last night and then went straight to Amazon.com to order The Kind Diet.  Flirt is such a great word- it makes it seem fun and exciting...and it is just the nudge I needed to walk further away from meat and processed foods.  Thank you!
It was a great show! The only thing that disappoints me is Oprahs relunctance to speak out about animal cruelty. She was definitely holding back. I suppose it was fear of being sued again! But, overall it was a very good show and I hope it has enlightened the masses.

I thought Alicia did a great job on the show--she was highly articulate and positive without a trace of preachiness.  Although the theme of this show and the surfeit of information offered to a wide audience are commendable, Oprah, on the other hand, always grates on me by cutting people off to interject tangential and often irrelevant "me! me! me!" talk.  She interrupted both Michael Pollan and Alicia with inane remarks about happy cows and chickens, which belie the data in Pollan's and Silverstone's books (i.e. Pollan's claim that laying hens are the worst treated farm animal and Silverstone's gut-wrenching passage on the treatment of dairy cows and their place in the evil industrial agricultural scheme which produces veal from calves who paradoxically drink formula rather than their mother's milk (to say nothing of the horrific factory farm chicken footage in Food Inc.)).  I question whether Oprah has actually read these books or, more likely, has delegated that task to her staffers as she does with her book club.  While talking to Alicia via satellite, Oprah started to say she was a vegan for 21 days and proceeds to say that she was craving "cheese on her omelets."  First of all, this reveals that she was not in fact adhering to a vegan diet in the first place.  Alicia had started to comment on the cheese addiction and might have offered the insight on casein and the opiate properties of cheese, but Oprah didn't let her get a word in edge-wise and proceeded with her stream-of-consciousness.  I don't mean to hate on Oprah too much (as I said the program topic was commendable), but her hosting style undermined what could have been a more excellent show.
Just maybe this was a start, Diane! :)  I know it seems so little so late, but it's NEVER too late. And I will bet you the bank and a whoooooole lot of people will tune in to Food Inc. and other like-minded stuff and they'll begin to get the message.  I know I got it clearly just from the few minutes she ran on the show!

Alicia you did amazing! Finally the world can learn about The Kind Diet! I know you have influenced millions of more people to live the kind life!
This was a great show. Loved the show, especially Alicia's positive, fun and refreshing interview! A beautiful (and kind) spirit.

Alicia - I think your positive attitude and excitement about food and your lifestyle is fantastic.  I wrote about you on my blog with a post called "Alicia Silverstone rocks!"  http://myreallifeadventure.blogspot.com/

Thank you so much for spreading the word about being healthy and helping our planet.

oh my gosh alicia! i just watched you on oprah and you are so cute and funny! totally cool. makes me want to continue my vegetarian journey regardless of the comments and questions. i am so hitting up whole foods tomorrow! =)
Saw you on Oprah. Thanks for the heads up. I am still laughing about your poop comment. I don't think I'll be calling anyone in to see mine, but I'll never be able to go No. 2 again with a straight face. Ha ha :-)
I am so glad that I caught this episode of Oprah!  Alicia, thank you so much for your appearance!!!  Although I do not share the conviction to be vegetarian or vegan, I am conscious of the foods that I eat.  I have started to buy as much of my food from farmers' markets as possible.  And I especially appreciate your suggestion of "adding in" as opposed to "taking out."  You have motivated me to "add in" some super heathly foods(like kale) and a couple of vegan or vegartian recipes each week.  Even I can do that!  I purchased your book and a wholefoods cookbook yesterday--I cannot wait to try these recipes and incorporate this type of cooking in my life!

Alicia,

I just wanted to say that I watched this episode and it completely changed my life.  If it wasn't for this episode, I would have never had my eyes opened.  I bought your book the next day, read it all within a week, and became Vegan!  Thank you for being on that show.
