Hello everyone! I know that a discussion has already been started about "weight-loss buddies" but it looks like the conversation has kind of died down.
For the new year, I've committed to a vegan lifestyle. Since then I've had a *couple* of slip-ups (mainly involving cheese.) I am getting married in September and I really want to lose weight. I'm currently straddling the line between medically "overweight" and normal - but, I've also recently gained 20 lbs and its doing a number on my self-esteem. I was always comfortable with my body and since I've gained the weight, not so much.
I don't want to sound weak or like I have no sense of personal responsibility, but its been very difficult for me to lose weight. I was thinking that maybe having a weight loss partner might be a good way to constructively share feelings and recipes! And I don't just mean for myself. Maybe we can all find a partner to e-mail or message with in order to lose weight. Just a thought!
I kind of feel like a dork.

Hi Samantha
If you not appaled by my mistakes (English is not my mothertongue) I'm happy to share my thoughts and doubts with you. I'm also getting married this year (in august) and need to lose about 12 to 15 pounds. Not that much, but I'm struggeling a lot with it. Especially because I eat a lot of so called healthy sweets (like the peanut butter cups and things like that). And than I'm reading over and over again that everbody's just loosing weight in switching to the vegan diet. Not for me, sorry...
So if you, or anyone else, needs a partner in crime. Here I am :-)
i third that! you two feel free to email me.
(tho im not getting married im in two weddings this summer yikes!)

So, let's do this. How do you start, what will you do?
My greatest weekness ar my dinners. I'm often eating in front of the tv and do not feel, if I'm full or not, that means, I'm eating, eating, eating until I feel sick.
So I really have to stop eating in front of the tv. Instead I bought needles and cotton-wool and will knit some legwarmers and maybe a cap...
And I really, really, really have to give up nuts and chocolate. I mean not give up, give up, but I have to limit my consumption of these things a LOT. I eat a whole package of nuts in one go... Bad, bad girl.
Furthermore, I try to go Superhero a lot of the time. I love rice and grains, I love beans and lentils, I just have to learn to love all the winter veggies we can get at the moment. I mean, I like them, but after months of cabbage, leek etc. I'm just fed up with them. I hope spring is coming soon....
That's for me. What about you?
This is a wonderful idea!! I have been a vegetarian for a year and have been attempting to eat vegan for just the last week or so. Today one of my students (I'm a counselor) brought me a bag of chocolate (oh dear) and I ate the whole thing. I feel terrible physically and emotionally now that I did that. I tend to slip up often and then beat myself up. I think there must be a more productive way of staying postiive and on the right track to weight loss.
I had a baby 14 months ago and has lost all of the weight I gained during pregnancy but was already overweight when I became pregnant. I have alot of weight to lose.....about 55 pounds so this is a long road for me and I can use all the support I can get! Please count me in!!!
Hi Gang- I am also very desirous to drop a few LBS. I have to say that my BEST tip on eating less is to CONSTANTLY remind yourself of the chewing 30 times per bite of food. (I CONSTANTLY forget-- so I have been making a mark on my hand in the morning to remind me-- That way when I am preparing my meal I see it and then again when my hand goes to my mouth I see it). I get so tired of chewing that much that I promise I eat substantially less than if I were chewing "naturally". And, not so much because I "feel full" but just because my jaw is worn out. I then realize that I really am not that hungry anymore. That so far has been my biggest "helper" in eating less and more consciously. I have been on the vegan/superhero diet for 12 days now and haven't noticed too much response in my clothes yet (which is most important to me) but the scale has been very kind. Best of luck! I cannot WAIT to reach the stage where your conscience efforts to loose weight are gone and you just concentrate of healthy food options.
Thanks for that reminder, Ashley. I eat SO FAST it's not even funny. Mostly because I'm feeding my toddler and myself at the same time. I'm just shoveling my food in to get the meal done & over with. Not a very conscious effort.
One thing that I have noticed and that has been inspiring me to keep moving forward is how clean my body feels when I eat vegan/superhero. I don't feel weighed down or sluggish. It really makes a big difference.
Chew your food is something very old school vegans will ALWAYS tell you. Also - Try the Carrot/Daikon weight loss tea (I'm on day 4 of it) and I think it's helping... seems to be doing something. I drink/eat it when I get home from work. This is a time when I am really hungry and I tend to shovel chips and hummus in my mouth just to settle down. But now I'm on the tea so it helps with the munchies. I need to lose 15 lbs. and I am pretty frustrated but it is coming off very slowly. Only been at it a month. Also - fastest way I've lost weight in the past; start jog-walking and drink a lot of water throughout day. The time changes this weekend - more daylight. Start out light with walking and jogging a little and build up little by little. The weight flies off. That was back when I was eating meat and dairy. I can't wait to see what it does eating vegan. You will be surprised by how just 20 - 30 mins. of that 3 times a week will completely transform your whole body, arms, tummy, legs. It's really awesome. Now, I'm doing yoga in the morning. Just 22 mins. of it. (I record Namaste Yoga off of Fit TV channel - awesome!) so if nothing else I get a little bit of flexibility training and it definitely firms you up and it's not too awful hard. (some routines are harder than others) I really look forward to it - I've NEVER looked forward to that kind of stuff. Hope this helps. Good luck to us! : )
I absolutely thing the time change is going to help so much. I'm a counselor at a university and just in the past week, with the improvement in weather, I see so many more students out & about and my clients are in a more positive frame of mind (as am I)!!. I love to take my toddler for walks every day and I also do yoga. You can buy the Namaste videos too. I got them for my husband for his birthday :) Is the weight loss tea strong? I tend to shy away from strong teas as they make me sick to my stomach. I have been curious about it though. Can you sweeted it with a teensy bit of agave or something??
hi everyone! im also stuggling to lose weight ever since i had my child..i am a vegetarian for more than a year now and i recently been doing the super hero diet...i have very low metabolism...the only way to lose weight for me is to go..low low carb..: (..frustrated..
I have been vegetarian for almost 20 years. Vegan off and on for long stints. I don't get too far into junk or binging, but I do eat more than I should at night and I have bad knees which make it hard to get around. I am hoping to lose at least 40.
I am hoping by limiting fat intake, by that I mean foods not oils, I will be able to drop the weight.
I don't have any excuses like weddings or babies. Just a series of leg injuries and being 46! So.... here is the start.
Hi All!I have been a vegetarian for about 9 months now and started being vegan on March 1st. For me, it seems to be day by day. Some days, I'll get out of bed and I will barely recognize my body in the mirror, like the pounds have melted off overnight. Other days, I feel... to put it simply... fat. I try to not buy too many vegan treats and only indulge in a piece or two of super dark chocolate when the craving gets really bad. I'd say my weakness is late at night munching (a handful of cashews here and there) and the PMS cravings. It seems like the not eating a few hours before bed serves me the best, because those are when I wake up feeling itty-bitty. Also, WATER. So hard to chug it, but I think it helps too.

I love that there is so much support for people like us out there. I also want to lose weight. I have serious back issues and have gained 40 pounds in the last two years. My self esteem is low. I've tried everything. I tried weight watchers for a whole year and maybe lost 10 pounds. I've been on the superhero diet for 11 days now and I love it. i don't miss meat at all. ( Last night i watched food inc and it was the hardest thing I've ever watched. Now meat just grosses me out.) Anyway I have found that I have way more energy and I feel happier but I have a fear of the scale. I'm too scared to step on it for fear that I haven't lost anything. I get so depressed when I try so hard and it doesn't show.
What I'm finding difficult is finding ingredients. i don't want to have to run to 3 different stores to get all the ingredients. Half the stuff I don't even know what it is. Where can I find Daikon? How about azuki beans? is nutritional yeast just regular yeast? I went to 2 stores last week and couldn't find anything. Does anybody have any good recipes or tips on this?
I'm in too - been vegan for a month now and just started superhero today!! lots to lose....and I'm 43 and it is soooo much harder now *sigh* BUT I feel great, lowered my BP already and have great skin now - hopefully the weight wil be next
