Children
Recently I discovered that my kids like a 50/50 mix of rice and almond milks.  Just the right mix of creamy and sweet for them.  No sugar added.
What are their ages? My daughter is 2 and Im just starting to wean her off regular milk. I still give 1/2 milk and then the rest either almond or a soy/rice blend. Not sure how is the best way to do it.
A friend of mine had a terrible time with her daughter at the beginning. She had issues with breastfeeding and then her child had the worst allergies to pretty much every formula she tried. She ended up on some type of special formula that apparantly she could tolerate but tasted terrible so basically feeding was just a miserable experience. Anyway, at the end the pediatrician ended up having her feed her rice milk and adding olive oil to the rice milk for extra fat.
My kids are 11, 8, and 2.  The older ones have even agreed that this mix of almond and rice milks is the best, and they are pretty much anti vegan in their attitudes! But they do really like this milk.  For now I am still buying dairy, because my husband asked me to, but they seem to be drinking less and less of it.  yay!
My kiddos like the almond milk, but I really struggle with cheese and yogurt.  I bought soy yogurt and tried to drain it in cheesecloth (like I'd done with reg. yogurt in the past) but it didn't work as well.  It's so runny that I thought I could thicken it then add pureed fruitj/ agave nectar and such.  Haven't had my kids try that one yet, but they became very upset when I mentioned we would try to stop with so much yogurt and cheese.  Anyone know of any good products out there? Not that I want to rely too heavily on them, but it's a process rt.  My kids are 2, 5, and 6.
My husband, 8 yr old son and 2 yr old daughter like the recipes I have made in the Uncheese Cookbook.  But my 11 yr old daughter is a major drama queen about it all... refuses to try 'that fake vegan cheese stuff...'
Have you girls tried the cocnut milk based yogurts by so delicious? They are so much better than soy or any other one, and still have live and active cultures in them. My kids who are 6 and 4 love them!
thanks morgan, I just discovered coconut coffee creamer, but I didn't know they had yogurt, I'll keep my eyes open for it.
The coconut milk ice cream is fantastic, haven't seen or tried a coconut yogurt. Haven't tried the soy yogurt either, but am trying to keep soy to a minimum. My toddler (almost 3yrs old) loves the Almond Breeze original flavor. It is lightly sweetened, but even whole cow milk has some natural "sugars", so I'm not real worried about it. My babies (11 months) are still having their formula once a day, but with their meals I'm giving them the Tempt hemp milk vanilla flavored (also lightly sweetened, but the unsweetend, well I can't even get that down!) The chocolate hemp milk is really yummy, but tons of added sugar. For the omegas in the hemp milk I try to get my toddler to take a bit of the chocolate hemp milk mixed with his almond milk. Not having any luck with faux cheese, though, not for lack of trying.
I have a 6 year old, 4 year old and a 6 month old baby, all being raised vegan. I make my own homemade almond milk. I add things in like raw coconut oil, dates to barely sweeten. It is amazing. I will be posting the recipe for this on my food blog in the next day or so...
check it out for the recipe. it is so amazing! There are also tons of kid friendly recipes on there that my kids love and eat!
