My mom is sick and recovering, and I'm caring for her during this time. I'm also in law school and working.. so very swamped as you might imagine!

I've decided to try GobbleGreen.com meal delivery service -- it's vegan!

I'll let you all know how it is! I ordered a week of dinners to try it out.

These are the dinners that are coming:

The food came today!

It was nicely packed in a sturdy box with tons of dry-ice. The food itself is wrapped in sealed shrink-wrap and each is labeled with heating instructions. Since the UPS guy was late bringing it (not until 730pm!), we ate something else for dinner..

BUT! i did try the vegan chocolate chip cookies. Instructions say to heat them until warm and soft, so I popped them into the already-warm oven for about 5 minutes.. and WOW. DELICIOUS!!! They taste like the very best homemade cookies. No one would ever know they're vegan.

More updates to come! I think we're going to eat the "sausage" "cheese" and vegetable pizza tomorrow night. The personal pizzas are gigantic, btw. We'll definitely have leftovers for lunch.

tonight we tried the sausage, cheese, and veggie pizza!

conclusion: mmmm! very good! i wouldn't say it was THE BEST vegan pizza i've ever had.. the ones we make at home with shredded follow your heart vegan mozzarella, cashew ricotta, and sauteed mushrooms are gooier and more decadent.. BUT this was a mighty good vegan pizza. it was better than the amy's soy cheese pizzas you can get in the frozen section of whole foods, and better than trader joe's cheeseless pizza.

the "sausage" was quite tasty. the crust was thin and crispy. and it was a very light, healthy meal. not greasy at all. just the right amount of salt, and the sauce wasn't sweet or odd tasting like a lot of packaged pizza sauces. it tasted homemade.

the nutritional info is also very nice. these pizzas were NOT small. they give 1 pizza per person, but the 3 of us just ate 2 of them and we were quite full with a small side salad added to the meal.

i added a bit of crushed red pepper to mine, and it was perfect!

tomorrow night: kung pao "chicken" ....i think we may cook up some brown rice to go with it. it seems pretty saucy to have on its own.

tonight was the kung pao "chicken"

since it's saturday and i had some spare time, i made some brown rice and bok choy to go along with it.

let's just say that it went so fast, i didn't have time to take a picture! here is the picture from gobblegreen's website:

this stuff was absolutely hands-down delicious. the seitan "chicken" had a perfect texture. the sauce was a little sweet and a little spicy, but not too much of either, and the crunchiness of the peanuts mixed in made it sooo good.

while the pizza was good, the kung pao chicken dish is definitely a winner.

tomorrow night: not sure yet! maybe the potato knish?

tonight we ate the gnocchi with light tomato basil sauce.

verdict: it was good, but not great.

my main criticism is the lack of sauce. they put such a tiny amount of sauce that most of the gnocchi was left uncovered, even after trying to thoroughly mix the gnocchi and sauce in the bowl.

the sauce itself was tasty; it had a nice basil flavor, but they could definitely give A LOT more of it! it looked like they only plopped a tablespoon of sauce on top.

so i ended up adding some melted earth balance and garlic powder to salvage the meal, which i'm sure rendered it no longer "low fat." but hey, as much as i like gnocchi, i don't like eating it PLAIN! but the gnocchi was good; not mushy and it was definitely homemade.

we also had a large salad along with the gnocchi.

one other complaint: we ordered 3 gnocchi servings, and one of them was grossly out of proportion with the others.. it almost looked twice as big! i noticed the same thing last night with the kung pao chicken. i'm not sure if they were trying to be nice by giving us extra in 1 of the servings, or if they're just sloppy in how they serve out the food. if it's the former.. that's nice of them.. but if it's the latter, they need to invest in a food scale. if the portions aren't uniform, their nutrition info isn't useful.

Two thumbs up for the potato knish with a side of steamed veggies! VERY filling and delicious!

I got a gift certificate from them for my dad and his wife for Christmas, but I don't think they've used it yet.  Glad to know the food is so good!

Sounds wonderful- are you counting calories or just eating healthier?  I just posted a question about this service, but I was so excited to see that you had tried it so I'm eager to hear all about it.

I went to their website and was very impressed and all set up to order it.  I did some math and decided that I could make the $580 a month work.  When I started the order process I saw that shipping & handling was $125/mo I was very disappointed.   That seems excessive to me.  That put it over the top of what I could afford. 

I would've loved to try this out.  New foods, portion control, etc sounded like just what I wanted.  Oh well.  :(
