B12 help

Hi! smiley-smile.gif   I've been taking a B12 supplement 2 to 3 times a week.  The brand is Vitamin Code and it's a raw vegan B12.

I have a Vegan Outreach pamphlet, Guide to Cruelty-Free Eating,  I picked up at my local vegan restaurant and it confused me.  Regarding B12 they say not to rely on "a 'living' vitamin supplement that claims to use plants as a source of B12."

Does anyone know if Vitamon Code, being a vegan, raw supplement with live enzymes and probiotics, is what Vegan Outreach was saying is not good?

Are any of you taking a B12 vitamins and if so what brand?  What about a multi-vitamin that would cover all or most vegan concerns?   I'm really ignorant about vitamins and would welcome any advice people want to give me.  I jdidn't worry about this stuff when I was a vegetarian but now that I'm a vegan I know I need to take better care of myself.

I recently read an article on B12 and it said that the only viable source (that can be absorbed and "used" by the body) is from meat and dairy...animal products.  It also said that the reason that some non-developed countries with vegetarian or vegan diets are not deficient in B12 is because they don't wash their veg or fruits properly and are therefore contaminated by manure and hence the absorption of B12 by the human.  It is important to get enough B12 because it prevents depression and heart problems.
There is a liquid form of b12 that you can take
Hi Katie, I dunno, I take a New Chapter Organics Every Woman's One Daily vitamin everyday and it makes me feel like I am on the ball. I can only vouch for these vitamins by the way they make me feel, a marked difference without them, and as far as the 'B's' go, my mood is totally even stevens when I take them regularly. There is so much to be said for positive thinking and intention! I feel like over analyzing and doubting everything I do as a vegan is tiresome and spirit breaking. I say just do your thing, try and believe in it, and follow your instincts! If it's not right, your body will tell you so in some way or another. Take care! smiley-wink.gif

Thanks for the responses ladies! smiley-smile.gif  Nicole, I'll look into the New Chapter Organic daily vitamin.

I'm still confused though about what type of B12 I should be taking.  Is Melanoo correct that there is no vegan b12 supplement?  Anyone else take Vitamin Code brand or know anything about them?

Thanks for the help!

I just add 2 tablespoons of nutritional yeast to my food a day and I have 143% of my daily dose of B12.  Tastes better than a pill!
Nutritional yeast. Sorry, but im not sure what that is:)

Thanks again for the help! smiley-smile.gif

I got some Red Star nutritional yeast but I haven't tried it yet but i will.  I have some Newman's organic plain popcorn that is calling to me. smiley-laughing.gif

I also got a vegan multi vitamin.  Besides B12 I really think I need some vitamin D since I'm rarely outside during the day and I keep hearing that most people need a supplement for that.

Alicia's book covers the issue of B12 pretty well I think.  You should refer to chapter 6
yes nutritional yeast! yummy..tastes great! you can buy it in bulk. it looks like yellow fish food or soy flour. ask your grocher or a person at a natural foods market...they should know what it is. you can put it on anything..not sweet though. it has a nutty cheesy flavor. YUM. this is my suggestion. Nutritional Yeast is a vegan cupboard staple.
