Beachbody's "Insanity" Workout Program
I have tried numerous different workout programs thorughout my life, usually to failure again and again.  I get bored easily (treadmill anyone?) and I was never an aerobics chick.  But ----- I recently found an incredible program that actually works!

"Insanity" by Beachbody is amazing!  It is a 60-day, 10 dvd body conditioning cardio program meant to get you fit fast.  It does recommend you already have some level of fitness, as it works you hard!  Check it out a:t www.getinsanity.com  This is not sissy cardio aerobics!  It is pure cardio, with lots of plyometris and resistance training.  No special equipment or gear needed.

It is a little pricey, but well worth it.  I have tracked my progress, and I have seen tremendous results after just two weeks.  You have to be committed, but it is amazing how well it helps you get fit.  I am doing it as a vegan, which is a little rare, but I have been able to make it work!
Thanks for sharing. I have seen the ads, looks like fun. Isnt it amazing how not eating animals and exercising can really change your body?
It does change your body indeed... and your mind!  For me, eating vegan naturally led me to want to take better care of myself, including exercise.  It kind of goes hand in hand.  I think yu find that you start to feel good again and then you want to feel better and better.
I've been hearing about this Insanity workout, and I'm dying to try it! Did you lose weight? If so, do you mind me asking how much :) I've been on a vegetarian diet (pretty much vegan, except that I eat cheese occasionally) and the weight is coming off, but I want to lose more!
I haven't tried the "Insanity" but I did Beachbody's P90X which I thought was amazing. You are right though it takes a lot of commitment. I did P90X before I became Vegan. You said you are doing it vegan which is rare but you make it work. Do you do anything special to make it work???
Maria:  I am on week 3 and have lost 5 pounds.  More importantly I have lost inches of my body measurements!  I am using that to track my progress rather than the number on the scale.  And my fitness level has increases dramatically.  Part of the program is a fitness test you do every two weeks to see your progress.  You see how many of a certian move you can do in a minutes.  I increased on all 8 moves after just 2 weeks.

Jessika:  Congrats ondoing P90X!!  Luckily I was vegan for 5 months before starting Insanity!  The nutrition guide that comes with the program doesn't work for me though - it's mostly meat and dairy.   I didn't have to change to much though in my vegan eating habits, except that now I have to make sure I get more protein since I am working all my muscles hard now.   I also can't drink a lot of recovery drinks (for right after a workout to replenish the body) because most contain dairy, but I finally found a vegetarian version I can have.  I love it!
Syeera, what type of recovery drink did you find that's vegetarian?
Fruitein by Nature's Plus (I use the Banana Orange Cream flavor). It uses soy protein instead of whey.   It would be vegan except is does contain a little bee pollen.   It's the only vegan cheat I use, although I never use honey.

One scoop is 99 calories, 0 fat, 10g protein, and 13g natural sugars.  It works great after a workout!
Syeera!

That's awesome. I may have to try this dvd! It looks 'insane'! no pun intended.

Thanks for sharing.

I've seen the commercials and was considering it- but now that there are actual testamonials from real people, I may actually buy it and try it out.  I believe, as long as we listen to our bodies, any workout program can be done on a vegetarian or vegan diet.  I'm glad I came across this discussion.  thanks everyone
Hi all, I am seriously thinking about doing the insanity workout, but as with anything else I have been doing my research (mostly because of the cost of it lol) to see if it is a scam, if it really works and if it works for a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle. Thus far I have found nothing but positives about it so most likely  I will be making my purchase tomorrow. However a friend of mine that is doing it told me that the nutrition guide comes with plans suitable for meat eaters, vegans and vegetarians is this true? I saw on Syeeras' post that the nutrition guide did not work for her as it was mostly meat and dairy, so I am guessing the plan does not come suitable for us veggie lovers lol. If it does not, what can I do to up my protein? See here is the thing I am a vegan, however I have had my not so perfect dairy moments with yogurt and cheese. I have tried the meatless meats and I do not like them, tofu I do not like either, I do eat a lot of soy based things and natural peanut butters etc. IS this sufficient? Should I try the protein recover shakes? @ Syeera which vegetarian version did you find? Thanks all for your input.
I am currently doing P90X after seeing great results with it in the past. It's rather intense, but I can tell you, it gives results to anyone willing to put in the time!

As for the diet, I am not vegan but vegetarian (although I dabble/flirt with veganism). The initial few weeks has your diet comprising of 50% protein! Since I eat dairy, I would get a lot of my protein from lowfat cottage cheese, lowfat Greek yogurt, beans, quinoia and a soy protein powder. It's not easy and I track EVERYTHING on Sparkpeople (what I eat), to make sure I get ample amts of protein/carbs/fats. It eases up as the weeks progress.

I am on week two of P90X's "lean" program and I am seriously addicted to it. Not to mention Tony Horton, the lead trainer is totally awesome and funny.

Good luck and glad to see BeachBody made its way onto these boards and that there is support for these programs!
Hil, I am currently on day 44 of P90X -- so just about halfway through the program. Love it and the results. Discovered The Kind Life around the same time and have been a serious flirt -- with some weeks more superhero than others! I have pretty much ignored the eating plan that comes with P90X and doing great. Last summer I did Insanity and followed the eating plan. Lost 15 lbs and was in the best shape ever at the end of the sixty days. However, I found that workout a little repetitive. Someone said it on an earlier post -- the Beach Body programs really work -- as long as you are willing to work them (and that is about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes) six days a week. On my day off ('recovery day') which is usually Sunday I shop at Whole Foods and prepare a lot of my vegan dishes for the week so I can take for lunch. Diet is 80% of the 'secret' to losing weight and feeling great. With Alicia's helpful and insightful book it is so wonderful to discover the importance of what we're putting into our bodies. And not to mention the wonderful new world of food I'm discovering.
I am so glad to see that there are a bunch of people doing this! I am hoping I can get some support if need be,......I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my insanity workout.....wish me luck!!! good luck to you all too! I will keep you posted!

Michelle:  The nutrition guide has a few vegan/veggie recipes - but for the most part it is a lot of meat.

I hate tofu too!  I eat a lot of beans and quinoa - both high in protein, and I just love edamame.  I also love nut butters in moderation.   I do NOT like fake meats, but "Gardein" makes incredible "chicken" dishes that blew my mind and my taste buds!

A lot of celebrity chefs are even using Gardein products in their restaurants as choices for vegans!  I seriously cannot tell the difference between their products and the real thing.  Great protein too!

Good luck on Insanity!  I am half way through and love it.  And I am always here for support!
