Bodybuilding & Protein

I know there is so much discussion already about protein, but I specifically want to talk about bodybuilding and protein.

I have no problem meeting the minimum daily req. for protein for women (about 40-50g). However, my boyfriend is a bodybuilding non-veg. I am trying to bodybuild too. He insists I need atleast 1g of protein for every pound of body weight! ! 130g of protein for me a day!! REALLY?

So...I looked at some VEGAN bodybuilding websites and they recommend the same amount! To prevent muscle loss and encourage muscle growth...but I have no idea how to eat this much protein in one day...

Does anyone else here lift weights, eat this much protein, or have any advice on this topic??

Thanks!!

A few bodybuilding and weight training coaches recommend protein intakes of 40 percent of energy. For example 40% protein, 40% carbohydrate 20% fat. Let's take a look at this. In the 4000 calorie diet of our 100 kilogram bodybuilder, 40% protein would be 1600 calories, equivalent to 400 grams of protein at 4 calories per gram. That is 4 grams/protein/kilogram body weight/day; over four times the RDI and twice what's scientifically defensible.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks John.

I guess you are saying that the amount of protein suggested by bodybuilders is extreme and hard to do. I took a look at the RDI and I feel I meet those requirements. Hopefully I can work out and still build some muscle eating about 50g of protein, like a normal woman. My bf thinks I will not build any muscle on this amount of protein, but I just cannot see eating 130-260g of protein per day.

Thanks for the info!
