Bunions

smiley-frown.gif I have a bunion. I am SO sad and it hurts. Have been wearing Danskos for the last 12 months to work and think that may be the culprit. Or it could just be a coincidence, however, does anyone have any Vegan shoes they could recommend for someone who is on their feet for 12 hour days, 3 or 4 days a week??

Thank you for your input!

Can't you get surgery for it if you are in pain?  If it is causing pain so much that it disrupts your day to day life, I think you can get the surgery free of charge (well here in Canada you can anyway).

I feel your pain because I have a bad one on my Right foot and a lesser one on my left.  I attribute them to years of figure skating as well as my genes.  I went to the podiatrist and even though I said the one was causing me a fair bit of pain, he said I would still have to pay $2500 each foot out of pocket for the surgery.  But I know people get this operation done covered through their provincial health insurance, so I'm not sure if I have to shout louder or what!!!  :)

As far as shoes go, there are lots of shoes out there that are vegan and comfortable.  I wear Demonia, and basically whatever else I can find that isn't too expensive.  It's hard finding shoes wide enough, but they are out there.

Good luck!

Julie, I am a runner/triathlete, and this year I have transitioned to the minimalist type of shoes, with no elevation in the heel.  I am on my feet at work for 10 hours, and I wear New Balance Minimus Recovery shoes--they look like old school Keds almost, but feel like slippers! I have found that all shoes with heels, whether fitness shoes or dress shoes, push my feet downhill so my bunion joint aches. As long as I stay on completely flat shoes, with less support/structure, my feet and (bonus!) my knees, hips and back stay balanced.  Good luck!

Nancy
