Ellen,
I have colitis and became a vegan 7 years ago(a year after my initial diagnosis). I definitely noticed more energy and felt overall better with my new diet chage. I do however, have to eat small meals often. Sometimes I can't tolerate food at all. The only thing I have been taking that has helped get me into remission is VSL #3. It is an INTENSE probiotic that contains dairy, but I swallow it in pill form so I dont have to taste it. I have tried various other probiotics and none worked for me like this one. I have also seen two homeopathic doctors that temporarily helped, but in the long run I just got sick again. It is with my experience that you will get to know your body, and what foods its doesn't like. When you find the ones it does it's like striking gold! I am also currently on some medication. Last year I tried weining myself off of the pills and landed in the hospital. I would strongly advise if you want to get off medication to do it under doctors supervision. I totally know what your going through. These digestive diseases are a real pain. My last read was "Listen to your gut" by Jini Patel Thompson. She has been living with Crohn's for years with no medication and offers many reccomendations for natural healing. Hope this helps!
