Cooked Grains - how long do they keep in the fridge?
I have been cooking grains on sunday to last me the whole week, but was wondering if they could be eaten beyond a week.???
I cook grains and beans about once a week too. I cook one cup dry. I think I use it up in about a week. I always smell it before eating - if it smells funny then it is time to throw it out.
Thanks!  I will do that:)
It depends - for nutritional value, in Macrobiotic cooking, unfortunately they recommend keeping grains in the fridge no longer than 24 hours.  That's why a lot of people will make it for dinner and have it the next day for lunch.  This threw me off at first since I didn't think I would have time to make grains and beans every day so it depends on what you are going for - to stay on a vegan/macrobiotic path, if keeping them in the fridge for a couple days helps you with that i'd say go for it.  If you are really interested in keeping the nutritional value though, I'd say no more than 48 hours max.  In a week the food might not go BAD but it probably doesn't have it's nutritional value at that point either.  I saw a good chart before I wish I could find, if I do then I'll post it.

Keep in mind there are few things easier than sticking a pot of rice on the stove to boil away though, so I try to look at it that way.  :)  Also, using other grains like quinoa and barley cook a lot faster too if you are in a rush.
