Crisis! Need healthy snack/lunch

Ok so here is my situation.  I go to school all day and don't get home until ~5:00.  I have one or two free hours during the school day, but I use that to go to the library because there is always tons of work for me to do.  I need a snack/lunch type food that will fill me up and be healthy, but the tricky part is that it needs to be compact enough that it can fit in a particular pouch in my backpack.  I don't want anything that needs assembly (i.e. dipping), or anything that needs to be refridgerated.

Sorry this is so long...I feel like I'm giving a riddle with all of these specifics.  But I'm just really struggling with this.  Thanks for ANY help you can give!

Hi! Like you I am at school or running around all day as well. I always pack food and snacks for the day. I recommend finding some raw granola..they will fill you up and they're pretty big so you can snack on them for awhile too! Theres GO RAW brand thats good..you can find them at most whole foods store..  :)

I always carry around peanut butter sandwiches, apples and bananas.  Hummus in a tortilla wrap might work too if you can roll it small enough to fit in your bag.

thanks for the tips! i will try both!

nuts? heyre high energy but not very big. walnuts and almonds are good.

and i know u said no dips but hummus and raw veggies is always yummy and filling

bean burrito wrapped in aluminum foil! super filling

Hi!

Today I was at a meeting and had to take my lunch. I didn't know if there would be a fridge so here's what I took.  An Ezekiel sprouted tortilla with some mashed white beans, avocado and spinach wrap, a baggie of carrot sticks, daikon radish rounds and apple slice and a baggie of raw almonds, raisins and pumpkin seeds.  It was great!  Didn't take up any room in my bag, didn't need refridgeration and I could munch it all day.  It was really fantastic when I inadvertenly sat that the lunch table with all the vegans and vegetarians.  I knew cause they all had the healthies best lunchs!  I eat lots of raw food when I'm on the go.  It really is easy!

little bags of dried fruit? i have lots of those in my desk drawer at work so I can grab them if I need something to snack on. I haven't bought anything from the 'Sandwich Man' in weeks!

I love NSA no-sulfur dried papaya slices or pineapple slices.Luna bars are great too. Pistacios, almonds, or any kind of nut, tough fruit/veggies like oranges, apples, celery stick with organic peanut butter in a little reusable container (pears and peaches are a mess if you're rough with your bookbag.I'm speaking from experience.Ahh,good times :)

I am also in school and I volunteer, so I am constantly on campus. I really like bringing for lunch burritos and wraps (with beans, loads of veggies and hummus), and sometimes to spice it up I will bring a little container of cold chickpea salad with rice, carrots, peas, and fried onion- so yummy! If you use avocado at all in your lunch though - make sure to add lime juice so it doesn't brown as much.

For a snack a little bag or a small container of nuts or home made granola seriously is so filling (and great around 4ish when you are feeling hunger pains but know you still won't be home to make dinner for a little while).

liking the other ideas... mite use some of these when am going to be stuck at university for lunch!

Try a couple tablespoons of almond butter in an Ezekiel tortilla, rolled up.  Delicious and compact!

I also go to school and I take with me different things.  I have a little tupperware box that I pack stuff in...you can also get a small lunchbag that lets things stay cool that fits in your bag.  I take with me seasonal fruit, trail mix, crackers with PB or pretzles with PB, and almost always hummus with fresh veggies.  my favorites are lemon cilantro hummus with cucumber, cherry tomatoes, green beans and apples.  It may sound weird but the sweet of the apples with the savory hummus is soooo good.  Also, I take with me soybeans in their pods, great snack.

and i'm not quite vegan so occasionally i take hard boiled eggs...but eat those outside else they will stink up the room.  :-)

Get yourself a little tupperware container that are small, mine has little compartments in it.  this way you can take a couple of things with you.  also, make some stuff the night before like a barley salad or a couscous salad with fresh veggies, beans, herbs and citrus dressing. that doesn't need to be refrigerated but you can put a little ice pack in your lunch bag and keep it cool.

If you have the time, Alicia's summertime succotash is a good one and tasty cold or at room temp.

I always have nuts and dried fruit on me. Occasionally protein bars (Luna and Lara).

I also like making Quinoa with green onion, tomato, basil, lemon and olive oil. It normally would be served hot, but I think it is good cold as well.

I also use a magic bullet and pack a smoothie with me every day. It is handy and portable, but I wouldn't let it sit all day or the liquids can separate.
