Fibroids

I have a uterine fibroid the size of an orange. they want to give me a hysterectomy, uterus only, I am heavily anemic with heavy menstrual cycles. Has anyone had this problem? I want to find an alternative, I want to keep my body parts! also, I have two little ones I still need to take care of, and they say you are off your feet for 4-6 weeks! I have no help. so surgery doesn't seem like the best choice. Help! and Thanks!!! have a great day!

Hi Lisa,

I would say get a second (or third) opinion if you haven't already done so. Though I am not a big Dr. Oz fan, he addressed this a few weeks ago on his show, with the help of a female OB/GYN, and they said it is not always necessary to remove them and sometimes the least desirable option. You might want to do a little research and see what other options are available. Could they just remove the fibroid while leaving the uterus intact? I had fibriods and ovarian cysts which after having them removed resulted in early onset of menopause and vaginal atrophy, not fun I assure you :-) Just remember that it is your body and your choice! Good luck...Lisa

THANK YOU! yes, I am actually going to try accupuncture next week, see what they say, I read good things about it. I have tried it for other issues and it really  helped.  though my insurance does not cover it of course, but I might be able to find someone with a sliding fee. I am going to the school here where its "cheaper" not by much though, and I am going to talk to another doc soon as I make an appointment. I just don't trust the insurance I have now.. also, My friend is a Rikki practioner, but lives out of town, she said she would see me in November.. wow, sounds like you had a lot of stuff going on as well.. did they have to put you under? and did they come back? I am so scared of menopause! and I don't know what the vag. atrophy is, have to look it up, but it sounds awful! thanks again, its the pain and bleeding that is freaking me out most, not too mention I look and feel like I drink beer for a living! so bloated..

what kind of dog is that you have? so cute!

thanks again, lisa
