Gaining weight flirting?

I've been trying to become a vegan for 2 months now- I've finally become a lacto-ovo vegetarian but still working on getting the rest out of my diet- I'm not buying products at home but it's when I eat out (1 or 2 meal/day) it has milk products or eggs etc. in it. A vege friend of mine suggested that I might not be eating enough protein which could be a problem.  I've gained 3 lbs since I started which I can't figure out because I'm eating sooooo much healthier than I did before. I have vege's or fruit in almost every single meal now (except breakfast sometimes).  I may be totally off so I thought I'd post what I eat - I may be totally embarassing myself but that's how you get help right?

Hmm, since I am having this problem myself, I don't know if I'd be much help. It looks like lunches are fine. What is in the breakfast tostada? Maybe it's the smoothies...they might have too many cals? Also, I would have just a smoothie or dinner, not both like on Tuesday. But other than that, it doesn't seem like you're consuming a lot of calories. Maybe too much salt and/or sugar?

A tostada is like french bread (only made with lard) it's awful I know but it's so good smothered in butter and toasted.  I can't get enough of it.  Breakfasts are really my downfall- I love bread in the morning. :(

I am not gaining weight but I am stuck and no longer loosing and I don't think im eating well at all right now, I started grad school and am struggling to find time to create healthy meals. Do you guys have any ideas?

Also for a quick breakfast when im on the run I eat brown rice, rice cakes with some peanutbutter and fruit.

Samantha,

Wow, I wish I could offer advice on this- I eventually want to get to be more raw and according to Brendan Brasier's book Thrive, the more Raw you go, the more weight you lose basically.  I will get there eventually, my biggest problem is the breads and sweets I think.  For example- for lunch I just had a fruit salad with yogurt, a side salad, Quinoia with vege's, small fries (mcdonalds) and a handful of M&M's.  Did I really need the M&M's and the fries?  No because I'm completely stuffed and I didn't even finish my Quinoia or the salad.  It's like we're are own downfalls in some ways but it takes a while to step back and look at it- until I started writing down what I was eating this week, I had no idea I was eating all this food!!!  On top of that, I'm exhausted and rundown.

Another thing- make sure you're drinking enough water- when I don't drink enough water I end up eating the wrong things (like today).

To me, it doesn't look like you're eating enough whole grains (which keeps you full and helps you lose weight!). I'm only seeing quinoa out there. Idealistically, you should be aiming for a good portion of whole grains with each meal.

Hope that helps a bit!

Jessica - I may be wrong, but it looks like your meals are not well rounded, and you're consuming a lot of sugar in the form of fruit and candy.  Like Tania said, more whole grains instead of the bread and the fries. Try to cut back some on the fruit and replace it with veggies. Smoothies can have a lot of hidden calories if you're adding fruit, fruit juice, and almond milk and a protein powder. You might want to take a look at the ingredients and see if you really need them all. Maybe you should try having your smoothie in the morning, and a more varied dinner with greens, grains, and a protein.

Also, the more dairy you can cut out, the better for your weight loss. And if you really need something sweet, try switching to a chocolate that's better for you - ultimately dark chocolate is the best. The darker the chocolate, thes less sugar. Then, limit your chocolate snack to one or two sqaures. Hope that gives you some ideas.

Awesome- thank you guys- it's good to get an outsider's perspective.  My friend just told me to cut out the sugars too- I love fruit and sugar so it's going ot be hard but I'll work on it- like you said- probably in the morning.  I'm going to work on more grains too instead of the breads.  I'm desperate for a dehydrator so I can make my own raw breads.  I think I'll try to get that next week- it may save me :)  I'll be working on cutting down on the sugar!  Thanks everyone for your input- awesome!

Lose the Mcdonalds and Lard Bread sister...that is not the kind lifestyle.  You will crave, but after a few days you will be surprised how its just nice not to need to eat something.  I'd go raw completely for a few days to clear your taste buds and bring on the new healthy taste buds.  Watch your nuts and your will be golden eating raw.  I tend to eat a little to many nuts, felt better but wasn't really losing so I cut them way back.  Bottom line you will love your new lifestyle in time.  Mind over matter.  Make sure you have a treat alternative.  I use Agave with cocao powder, mix her up and toss on raspberries ( heated) .  OR even better blend dates, cocao, raspberries, hemp powder or Go Smoothie powder ( probably ok without this)  to a thick consistency and freeze in a cup.  The best darn raw ice cream ever without all the fat.  Or add some almonds for a crunch or buckwheat.  YUMMMMY!

Krissdee- bursting out laughing- love your skinny b**ch approach.  I just had my last lard bread this morning.  I love the cacao nibs- I just ran out and miss them in my smothies.  I know most people would think green smoothies and cacao nibs are gross but I love the texture.

Pray my husband doesn't say no to paying an arm and a leg for a good dehydrator- if I tell him it will make me skinny and hot, he may go for it.

Stall is worse and the only thing that I had to do was to change everything in the diet plan I started. I then switched over to strength training and calorie cycling and I've also had my measurement again to have this as a new reference. Well, I hope this works better to prevent not losing any.
