Grinding Flax Seeds
I know flax seeds have to be ground to get max nutrition - but is there any use for them in whole seed form?

Also - how do I grind them...my guess is my coffee grinder..they're just so tiny I'm not sure.

One more - storage  (sealed bag/open bag)
how long will they stay good in my pantry?

Thanks!!
I've used a coffee grinder in the past with good success. Now I just buy them already ground. I store them in the refrigerator and the package has a "sell by" date so I'm not sure how long they can be stored. I just keep an eye on that date.

yes - I use the coffee grinder as well - don't even drink coffee, just have one to grind up stuff like seeds and oats (make your own oat flour!) - and then keep in fridge - I don't know if its true, but I feel like they go bad faster once ground so I would just grind a small amount at a time and store it - and the whole seeds - in the fridge -
I've heard they're only effective fresh ground and grow rancid quickly. So the bagged preground ones are pretty good? No problems? I'm scared to try them. So I grind 2 TB flax everyday in an electric coffee grinder and stir it with one cup of feed for my two hens . Flax came into my life so can I enjoy cage free eggs with added health benefits from flax. The ground flax smells good so I'll have to try it for myself in a recipe. The hens are my own so I know they're spoiled and cage free! They're pets.
