I have been dipping my toe into the vegan lifestyle for almost 2 weeks. I am doing it for many reasons mostly because I love all animals. I have been experiencing hair loss for over a year now and the doctor has checked me out several times and everything seems to be ok. It's very hard being female and losing your hair. I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar problem that they were able to turn around. My doctor warned me that it would get worse if I changed my diet so drastically which has me a little worried.
as a hairstylist i have seen a good change in diet help hair growth, I've even noticed in myself. I used to have very thin hair and my own hair has grown healthier and thicker as I changed from vegetarian to vegan. Increasing the good fats like avocados and chick peas helps.
I also take silica gel which helps the hair and skin and nails.
An old coworker of mine was a firm believer in home remedies and she told me to mash an avocado with a bit of olive oil and use it as a hair masque. it really helps nourish the scalp and hair and to my surprise, did help with less loss and shedding.
so next time you have an overripe avocado, or see one in the discount section at the produce department pick it up and give it a try.
Hope this helps. also there are a few bad habits people have with their hair that may increase hair loss, brushing while wet, sleeping on wet hair, too many tight ponytails, tight hats, not enough hair brushing, over shampooing, using bad shampoos and conditioner...
SLS can contribute to hair loss, and its in so many shampoos.
My hair has been thinning and falling out for a couple years now (due to medication), and I take Biotin suppliements to help. I was using special shampoos for thinning hair, but they didn't work so well, and when I switched to Burt's Bees Shiny Grapefruit and Sugar Beet Shampoo, it started to look thicker and fuller. Hope it helps!
This supplement is the only thing that ever stopped my hair loss. It is brown seaweed extract and it removes heavy metals and other toxins from your body. http://www.poseidonsharvest.com/modifilan/buy-online.php Hope it helps! xoxoxo Donna
The superhero plan is a great way to maximize the nutrients you provide to your skin and hair. I advocate for those suffering from an autoimmune disease that causes hair to fall out (alopecia) to avoid dairy.
The Chinese saying " the hair is built from the odds and ends of blood" suggest that foods that build blood are good for the hair. Dark leafy greens like kale and collards, orange veggies like yams and squash are good for the blood, general health as well as the hair.
It takes a while for dietary change to result in improvement but when it happens it tends to be dramatic. Consider trying the superhero plan for a few months and see if you experience a change.
Donna, I am going to look into the Modifilan. I have wanted to do some kind of metal chelation for quite some time but havn't quite known where to start. Has anyone done foot soaks? My macro counselor offers them. I havnt seen her in quite awhile and again, would like to have them. Sandy, on the hair loss note, IF your hair loss increases due to your dietary changes, it WILL turn around. Blood and hair go hand in hand so definitely get those foods in your body. Also, b12 and folic acid are building blocks for red blood cells, and YES...I don't know much about acupuncture (yet) but i do know it will stimulate enzymes that promote fast growing cell growth, like blood and hair.. Hope you are feeling better ....Manya
Hi All, I also had great success from Modifilan. I had gone off a medication and started losing my hair in large clumps in the shower. This was going on for about 4 months when someone on the boards suggested Modifilian to me. I got a 30 day supply and that did the trick! Good luck!
