Hunger Signals

Hello everyone! So I gained about 5 or so pounds this past year. The past two months I have worked very hard and I managed to lose those extra 5 pounds. However, I've never really been happy with my weight and I'd like to lose more! Not much, just another 10-15 pounds. I've been eating cleaner and exercising more than I ever have in my life. And its working. Even if I'm losing the weight slowly, it still is coming off. However, lately, I've been hungrier than ever! I've been still eating about 1500 calories a day (even with the extreme hunger, maybe I've been eating 1600 calories instead because I'm estimating I sometimes do eat less than the 1500)but I am always so hungry lately out of nowhere! Should I listen to my hunger signals? Or should I just eat as much as I usually do? Thank you!!!

Oh and for exercise, I've been doing 40-50 minutes of either running or speed hill walking or sometimes sprint/walk intervals for about 30 minutes plus some strength training!

Hi Belle-

It is important to know what true hunger feels like. One of the most important lessons I have learned is just because your stomach is growling doesn't mean you need food, it simply means your stomch is empty--which can be good!

Depending on your size 1500 calories should be just fine, so long as you're mixing things up and getting plenty of nutrients.

How is the diet going? Still losing weight?

Hi Belle,

I've been struggling with the same issues but recently I read in a book to start your day off with a source of protein to get your hunger cues back in check.

Every morning I have a smoothie with Hemp Protein powder or a Plant based protein powder. I make enough to have two a day and it really helps with keep your hunger down with very little calories depending what you add to it for flavor.

Give it a try for a week and see how it works for you. Hope things get easier for you because there's nothing worse when your trying to lose a couple of pounds.
