is there lead in your lipstick?

I wrote an article called "Toxic Beauty" about the absurb amount of chemicals in many cosmetic, bath and beauty products.  http://veggie-kids.blogspot.com/2011/11/toxic-beauty-products.html  I've completely revamped what I put on my kids and my own skin!

Perfect timing for this post!  Was just wondering about some natural make up and shampoo/conditioner!  Thank you!

I saw this video a few years ago, via a friend I believe; forgot about it until now. I do not wear make-up (except on a few occassions), but am always on the hunt for new facewashes! I'm a burt's bees fanatic! I will have to check out the openskye store!

Very interesting. I'll have to pass this along. I recently switched my lipstick to Dark Heart.

I am all for these nasty chemicals being out of our products. I avoid these nasty chemicals by creating my own products. However, my family owns a small business that makes bath and beauty products from natural ingredients, and FDA regulations need to be worded very carefully to prevent thousands of small businesses (most of which do supply a LOT of natural cosmetics) from being put out of business because they can not afford the fees that these regulations would impose because they are very small businesses (some may not even make enough to cover the fees). This could also hurt hobbyists who prefer to make their own cosmetics at home to customize it to their preference. I think the best way to go about it is by restricting the chemicals on the market that are toxic to where they are not accessible to buy and outlawed (For example, many of our colorants like chromium green dioxide and some fd&c colors, which are known to cause cancer, is not even approved for cosmetics in other countries), then they can not pop up in the products. However, I think a lot of the down fall with lead being in lipstick has more to do with the fact that the cosmetics are being produced overseas where they have less restriction on the iron oxides being used in the products. Here in the USA, iron oxides are purified in labs to guarantee toxins like arsenic and lead are not present (iron oxide is a great example where pure natural is not a good thing, lol, we definately need it purified, but the purified form is the same exact chemical composition of what is in nature minus lead and arsenic). However, if the iron oxide is purchased outside the United States, there is a chance it is not meeting FDA standards because if they simply take iron oxide out the ground (which they still do for producing colorants for building materials, etc) , it will contain natural chemicals like lead and arsenic. Therefore, higher restrictions on products being imported into the USA would help too.

Great video! I have spent hundreds of dollars on both of my kids skincare, my son suffers really bad acne! We where recently introduced to raw organic apple cider vinegar for treatment, it works! I am curious now and want to find out all I can about living a healthier lifestyle free from harsh chemicals.

Thanks Jolene, very informative!

I've looked at your store and had quite a laugh, I wanted to buy something when I had some money, I'll have a look today...smiley-tongue-out.gif

Very inforamtive. Thanks for sharing! :)

Does anyone know is "Love Peace and The Planet" products safe?

It is worse than this video shows. Even products like Tide and Downey are loaded with carcinogens. For products that are totaly non toxic go to www.greenvirginproducts.com. Enter promo code 10off for a 10% discount on your entire purchase.

Regarding my old lady friend from high school... Personally before wasting my time with what humiliated me for many years and who basically have what I believe the moral and the mentality of a low-end prostitute, I'm going to spend some weeks with high-end ones who would at least really know what they're doing... She make me uncomfortable but I really don't love her anymore since 1997, it's gradually a thing of the past over the time since I decided that the best thing to do for me was to flush... I'm a luxury car, why would I decide to waste my time... As for yourself I've read that Men's Health magazine had you ranked #66 in the 100 hottest womens of all time, of course Serge Gainsbourg erotic song was ranked #69 on the charts...
