janah’s cooking class at sur la table!

Hey Kind Lifers in the Charles Town, WV area.  Just got a notice there will be vegan cooking classes held by O Taste & See at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 7869 Summit Point Road.  Classes are free but there is a small $20 registration fee.  Classes run for 6 weeks starting January 30th from 5:30pm till 7:30pm.  To register call 304-839-5477.

So, if she is vegetarian, does that mean things like butter, milk, cheese and eggs will be in her recipes at the class you mention above?  I would love to take the class, but only if it will be totally compassionate cooking!

Minneapolis/St Paul area - Attending an 'Italian Vegetarian' class at Cook's of Crocus Hill - Edina location on Thursday 2.3.  Apparently they recently had to cancel a 'Beans and Grains' class in St. Paul due to lack of attendees )-:

Continuing to watch for other veg/vegan instruction!

Also - contemplating Spork On Line - anybody have any familiarity with them?

Kind Lifers in Seattle - PCC (a locally owned and operated co-op) has many vegan cooking classes.  I signed up for Veggie Prep 101 in February!

Still waiting to find a vegan cooking class in Upstate New York!

This class sounds really fun and cool! If I were anywhere near LA, I would take it for sure. Plus, everyone in the photo looks so happy! To anyone who does get to go, I hope you have a super fun time, and be sure to let us know all about it. To mmstp above, yes, I did sign-up for Spork On-Line and I have really been loving there on-line cooking classes and I've made a few of the recipes so far and they are really good! Super yummy! I like being able to watch a video of the cooking class and then also having a PDF of the recipes to view or print-out or whatever. That way I can take it to the grocery store or write notes all over it during "class" for when I'm cooking later, etc. Plus, the girls are so full of energy and so nice that I just love watching them teach. I feel they really love what they are doing. I ended up getting a friend a gift membership for the holidays and she seems to love it too. Hope that helps. Maybe someone else will have some input for you too. Oh, also, you can e-mail them questions and they are so nice about getting back to you and you can post questions on the web-site.

Good luck with the class, Janah, and try vegan recipes....they are wonderful, too

Kind-Lifers in LA.....................My wonderful friends Patrick and Jeanne at www.the7thelement.com

have wonderful weekly cooking classes ($15!) where you have the opportunity to learn all about Macrobiotics from two trained Kushi chefs! They have their own line of macro foods found in some markets and now available at many farmers markets as well as a weekly meal delivery.

Let them know that Heather has sent you! Its a great way to get your basics and some cooked food in one!

Billi - I'm not sure where you are in Upstate, New York, but I thought I'd let you know that there is a Co-op in Ithaca, NY called GreenStar and they hold cooking classes quite regularly that are vegan/macrobiotic. I haven't attended one myself but from what I can tell the class is set up so that an instructor/chef does the cooking and explains about the cooking they are doing and benefits of the diet and then hands out samples and recipes. It's only $8 (member) and %10 (non-member) and the next one they have is on Feb. 8th so if you (or anyone else who sees this) is near that area it might be worth checking out.

Hi everyone! Janah's class is 100% vegan - just wanted to clear that up! You can find details here.

hi alicia

If you live in San Diego, check out Veg-Appeal! The classes are completely vegan and a lot of fun! http://www.veg-appeal.com/. You can contact them at info@veg-appeal.com to be added to the e-mail list.

Loved the cooking classes. Highly recommend them. Yep, I'm one of the one who attended the classes. I'm the blonde, 2nd from the left with her elbow on the table.

Just to clarify something for Vegans attending. Most of what was demonstrated was Vegan. What the chefs did on a recipe that was not vegan , was to make it vegan for us. I believe it was pizza, without the dairy cheese. Maybe one other item.  They were extremely accomidating.

This is a must do, if you can make it. My drive was 2 hrs to get down there, but well worth it. Stayed at a friends house overnight. A totally hands-on-experience. That's when you really learn how to prepare things. If you're curious, I think you can access the photos I took down there on my info.  I took lots of photos of the food. It was GREAT!!!  A good value for the money. Like Nike says, Just do It!

One more thing. This is the exact class I took. Same recipes. Food was great!! Do it if you can. It was mentioned in class that they may be doing another one in the future, different recipes. So keep checking out the sur la table website.

Must warn you, the farmers market is also there. Lots of goodies there. Addicting!!
