Hello,
I've been a vegetarian for 5 years and have been a vegan flirt for a year and a half.
I'm also succesptible to kidney stones; it's a little gereditary since my dad has had several throughout his life and I had my first one 9 years ago at age 16. They can be very painful and I would like to do anything I can to make sure I never get another one again. It seemed as though being vegetarian has helped since I hadn't had a stone in 4 years but this last weekend I had to go to the hospital from the pain and it was concluded that I have another stone. One of the potential causes for the formation of stones is the concentration of oxalatic acid in many vegetables, not to mention animal fats/proteins, but also that vitamin C is converted to oxalates in the body.
Has anyone had experience with kidney stones and being completely vegan? I'm opimistic that a completely vegan diet will reduce and hopefully eliminate the recurrence of stones, but it would be nice to hear from others that have had that experience.
