Lemon-Cayenne Pepper Detox
Hey,
I just read "Skinny Bitch" and they mention that Fasting is a really good way to bring your body back to a neutral level. So I thought about Fasting. I found this recipe for a Lemon-Cayenne Pepper drink and they say you should drink it everytime you feel hungry, 6 to 10 times a day.Of course I wouldn't go from 100 to 0 but I thought about going one week reducing my food slowly and then do the cleaning for one or two weeks and then slowly go back to my vegan diet.
What do you think about this? Good idea? Should I consider something else? Is my plan good and healthy?
I would not recommend fasting.  Fasting causes your body to revert to "starvation mode" and then when you begin to eat again, no matter what it is, or how good the diet, your body will begin to hoard all the calories, nutrients, fat it can because it becomes afraid (your metabolism) that you will starve again so it is really counter productive, not to mention very unhealthy.
If you want to detox, just add the suggested tea.  Starving yourself for any period of time will cause your body to hoard everything.
This drink thing is actually the Master Cleanse.  From what I understand (I have not done it but am planning to) and have read, the maple syrup and lemon juice give enough calories and nutrients to sustain you during the cleanse.  Weight loss comes from all of the sludge getting cleaned out of your body.
What I read said to ease in for three days, then ease out again the same way, but in reverse.  And you are supposed to do a salt water flush drink before bed to help get nasties out of the intestinal tract.  The book is supposed to be really good, and I am planning to buy it to see.
I do the master cleanse once every 6 months and I love it!  You really don't lose any weight on it, it just cleans your body's system out.  Honestly, now that I've given up meat and animal products, I probably won't have to do this cleanse/fast anymore, but nonetheless.  There is very little to no weight loss on this fast, it is merely to cleanse your system.  Your body does not go into starvation mode because you are getting enough calories/sugars/fats from the maple syrup for you to not go into starvation mode.  Is it enough to live on forever?  Absolutely not, but for the amount of time you do the cleanse, it is sufficient for your body.  Don't do this cleanse if you are trying to lose weight, as that isn't what it's for.  But if you are trying to get all the nasty toxins out of your body then it's a really good cleanse.  http://themastercleanse.org/ is a really good site to follow if you are planning on doing this fast...it tells you exactly what to do while you are on it, as well as before and after the cleanse.
Thanks Danielle!  That is exactly what i needed!
Just so you are aware though, if you do the salt flush, be warned, it's brutal.  I have never gagged as much in my life as I do with the salt flush, but once you get it done with, it's really beneficial!
actually French Momma, the Lemon Cayenne Pepper drink is not the Master Cleanse.  It is a drink in and of itself.  I sometimes have it in the morning to flush out my system--it's really great for that, and to simply get your circulation going.  It's a nice, calorie free, caffeine free, way to perk yourself up!
thanks, landree!

Remember, too, we are coming up on the hot weather and sweating is a great detox also.

Thanks so much. I read that you gonna loose some weight, especially because I am a little over weight. But I do it because I wanna get my natural senses back and experience food differently. I also hope that my eating habits get a little better. I just gonna try it for a week now and then I will know more.
Hi Claudia, yes, that is the Master Cleanse you are talking about. It is not like other fasts and it does lots of good things for you. If you do it right, you WILL most definitely lose weight on it. There is a thread here about this already, here is the link:

As I said in that thread, there is a LOT of very wrong information on the Master Cleanse on the internet which can make you do it wrong or make it dangerous even! So please if you are going to do it, read up a lot before you do it. Buy the 2 books I mentioned there (they're cheap, so no worries), and read the forum as well. It takes about 2 weeks of reading until you really know what it is all about and what you're doing. But it's important to do so. I am going to do the Master Cleanse at the end of this month and I'm looking forward to it already! :)

Good luck trying it! :)

I do not recommend doing the master cleanse, I even bough a book all about it, but it's so complicated because you have to do everything exactly right, otherwise you will really mess with your body. I opted to not do the master cleanse, instead I did a juice cleanse for three days with a lead in and out so it was gentle on my body. And it surprisingly was not so hard, the juice is great, and it made my outlook on food so good (I was literally only craving healthy foods and small portions for a few weeks after, it was great! Kind of like rebooting my body)
blueprintcleanse.com is a great company that makes cleansing super easy, a bit pricey, but it's nearly impossible to make your own fresh juice every single day )believe me I've tried).
Fasting is very bad for you. And your body cleanses itself naturally all the time, so extra detox isn't really necessary if you eat healthy and exercise! Being vegan in and of itself really takes away the need to detox for long periods of time.
This is not technically a fast because you are getting calories and nutrients from the lemon and maple syrup.
I am getting ready to start on Monday and really looking forward to it, hoping it will get rid of my allergies and excema, like it did for a few of my friends.
Weirdly, I did not go through a big detox when I went vegan, even when I went superhero.  Did go through some a few weeks ago when I got back on Modifilan for my mysterious hair loss.  So I am really hoping to clean myself out and then be extra vigilant about avoiding foods I am allergic to- which is easy at home when i can eat superhero but difficult when we eat out.  It will just take lots of will power, unfortunately!
Day 1 of the Master Cleanser diet. Feel good now that the (gag) salt water flush has... well... flushed. That was intense!
Hoping this will ease my allergies as nothing else has helped. I use the neti pot daily, but it does not rid me of the allergies, just temporarily eases the symptoms.
The lemonade is different but not bad.
