Macrobiotics

Hey everyone!

I am mostly vegan right now and fully vegetarian. I notice that I still feel bloated and don't feel lighter at all and was wondering what  the macrobiotic (superhero) diet is like. Has anyone gone from vegan to macro and noticed a difference? I know that it centers around grains and protein but I don't want to gain any weight or mess up my digestion.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi Adriana :-)

I went from vegan to macrobiotic...and I love it! I would suggest easing yourself into it...and doing some research (books such as Modern Day Macrobiotics, Hip Chicks Guide to Macrobiotics etc). I have been reading and reading and reading about macrobiotics for months now and still refer back to the books when I am feeling a little low or out of balance.

Definitely start with say 1 meal a day...like incorporating brown rice and greens, or a miso soup into your daily diet.

My digestive system has never been so good...or regular :-) and I haven't put on any weight at all...even though I have been making a few too many macro desserts!!!

hope this helps a little!  :-)

I agree with Ruthy.  I've been vegan for a really long time and kept a stable weight but didn't really drop the pounds like I wanted.  I read "Hip Chick to Macrobiotics" by Jessica Porter and was totally changed.  She does a great job of explaining the philosophy and reasoning behind what is truly food combining, eating within season to make you feel your best, and also the important of chewing your food (literally 100 times a bite) to release enzymes that make you lose weight.  She also has a website and a few cooking demos that you can subscribe to:  http://www.hipchicksmacrobiotics.com/blog/

Good luck!

Hi,

I have to second Anna's recommendation to read the HipChick's Guide to Macrobiotics. I started the 30 day whole grain challenge 8 months ago and have continued eating whole grains at least twice a day and I have never felt better, or been thinner than I am now. It can't recommend it enough.

Thanks all for the Hip Chick reference! I'm honestly new to the Macrobiotics stuff and will read through this starting now... :)

Personally I did not like Hip Chick that much...I guess I just did not like her way of saying this...

I DO like Modern Day Macrobiotics that is really full of practical info, nutricinial info, hands-on approach and it has easy meal plans (also for different wants: detox, reginaration and cleansing), that will have you start cooking right away!

If you want to know more about eating macrobiotics I would definately advise this book, and maybe read Hip Chick for more filosophical info ( in my opinion this book is less practical and down-to earth)
