Motion Sickness

Hello all. Does anyone know of a reliable means of controlling motion sickness? I am considering going to Oregon for the summer to take some animal law classes, but it would take 1 1/2 hours by bus to get to campus from my brother's place! I get extreme motion sickness - I can't even ride in the back seat of a car unless the window is down and we are going a short distance. I know ginger can help with the after-effects, but I would be riding the bus five days a week for six weeks, so I would need something more long term than that. Ideally, something that works so well that I would be able to read on the bus instead of staring out the window for three hours every day, but I'm not hopeful about finding something that good. Any ideas on tinctures or something that I could take daily for help? Thanks for any suggestions!

Hazel, i am with you, I have always been sooo motion sick in vehicles. I can't even read the map when sitting in the front seat. My kids also get carsick and Dramamine works great for them.  My daughter had some on our last trip and she was even able to successfully read in the car.  I had all day nausea with all of my pregnancies and I tried the acupuncture bands and every ginger product there was, nothing worked for me (but it could be different for your motion sickness)  I did try the acupuncture bands on my kids for the school bus but it didn't work. Now I have them suck sugar free lemon candy. They still feel sick but at least sucking on something seems to keep them from throwing up.   Sorry, but Dramamine is the only thing I have found that works.

Animal law classes sound interesting! My husband is a lawyer :)  Good Luck!!

Thanks, minniehanka. I'm the same - can't even read CD covers in the front seat! I have taken dramamine in the past for plane trips. I was just hoping someone might have a more natural suggestion so I don't have to resort to that. I don't see how I can ride the bus for so long without something, and I would hate to not go simply because my transportation options are so limited.

I overheard a conversation with my acupuncturist and another patient the other day.  He apparently sold her some herbs for her long flight she had to take because she gets really bad motion sickness.  You may want to seek out an acupuncturist in your area, as I'm not sure what exactly he gave her, but he says he uses it every time he travels as well...
