my favorite restaurants in detroit

I am originally from the Detroit area. I wasn't a vegan when i lived there and I always have trouble finding places to eat. Thanks so much for this posting. I will be back there at the end of the month and can't wait to try a few of these places. In my experience many chefs enjoy a challenge/something new. If you call ahead, most of the time, they are more then willing to whip something up for the vegan palate.

The Red Pepper Deli is great. they make a raw vegan "cheese"cake that is amazing. I brought it to my sister's house over the holidays this past December and she is still talking about it.

I'm from the Detroit area, but I live in Connecticut in Fairfield County now.  We have a few go to's here, but would love to know of more if anyone has suggestions.  For now- The Lime and The Stand in Norwalk - Bloodroot in Bridgeport (a feminist vegetarian restaurant - my baby shower is being held there next week!), Catch a Healthy Habit, Green Gourmet to Go and Health in a Hurry in Fairfield.  So thankful for your site!  xo

Amazing, I live in Metro Detroit (just moved back home from Los Angeles six months ago and I miss all my vegan restaurants there!) and am constantly looking for vegan and healthy restaurants. I will definitely check these out!

My aunt and her husband live in Detroit, and I guess I always assumed their restaurants didn't have much to offer in the veg department! Looks like I was wrong :) Next time we go to visit her I will make sure and check out these places.

If you're aroud Detroit, head over to Dearborn and try out some mediterrean restaurants. Cedarland on W. Warren Rd has some great veggie options. Stuffed Grape Leaves, Hommous, Fattoush, falafils, Lentil Soup, etc.

I am a Vegan Detroiter so it is great to see this post! Thanks Alicia! I love Amicci's Pizza, super cute and their vegan pizza options are awesome! Also another great spot is in Downtown Ferndale called The Fly Trap, they have a delish Tempeh Burger! Me and my sisters have a Vegan Cupcake Biz located in Metro Detroit (Livonia), we are called Sweet Magnolias Vegan Cupcakes. Check us out on Facebook! www.facebook.com/pages/Sweet-Magnolias-Vegan-Cupcakes

Seva and Jolly Pumpkin (both in Ann Arbor) are phenomenal places to get vegan food! The Vegan Chocolate Cake at JP is unbelievable! And I haven't tried anything I didn't like at Seva...especially the Spice Cake and their soups  - DELISH!

We miss having you in the D! We were just at Avelon and Goodwell's this weekend after we left the farmers market. Sadly Om closed, but Inn Season is still a fav! We made the best vegan ice cream today, I'll send you the recipe. We actually had ice cream and brownies for breakfast! There's sugar so not every day, but we did make it with hemp milk and coconut cream!

I live near Sacramento, CA and I love Sugar Plum Vegan located in Sacramento. http://www.sugarplumvegan.com/  We went there last September for my birthday and that's where I first learned about Daiya cheese.  They also recently catered my sister-in-law's wedding and all the food was amazing.  Love it!  I also love the nut burger at Sunflower Drive-In located in the old part of Fair Oaks, CA.

Was the sushi resturant RONIN in Royal Oak?! They are the best!

Le Petite Zinc should also be on the top of your listen for your next visit!

This is for Vegcrazy!  I live in CT too, New Haven county but I travel 45 minutes to "It's Only Natural" (or ION for short)  in Middletown, CT.  It's has veg and vegan food.  The entire staff is very friendly and all desserts are vegan.  If you ever get a chance to take a ride there you will not be disappointed.  I was just there for my birthday on May 21 with my husband and 3 kids!  Everyone loved their meal.

Amici's is probably the best on the list.  It not only offers vegan & veg options but is a certified green restaurant.  If you go in the warm weather months (all 3.5 of them) you can eat in the courtyard.  Ronin is fantastic for sushi & so is Little Tree.  I also have a lot of good luck with the great middle eastern food we have in Detroit.  Anita's kitchen in Ferndale is excellent.  Bean & Leaf coffee shop sells vegan baked goods & so does the Cupcake Station in Birmingham.  Detroit does have good stuff to offer!!

I live outside of Detroit and have visited  Seva in Ann Arbor many times.  It is one of my favorites!  I have honestly loved everything I have had from there!  Also, there is a place called Big Salad in Grosse Pointe Woods if you are looking for something Vegetarian or Vegan and you need quick service.

I live in the Inland Empire area of Southern California and for me there are two favorite haunts.  The Loving Hut in Upland (http://lovinghut.us/upland/), which has an amazing selection of delicious vegan food.  They're all over, but Upland is closest to me.  And a newer grocery/apparel type store, Viva La Vegan in Rancho Cucamonga, CA (http://www.shophumanitaire.com/)  Both amazing places if you live in the IE...I'm learning so much since making this transition...it's AMAZING!

My husband has been doing some work in Detroit, so I really appreciate this post...I may be going there soon myself and am excited to try out these restaurants!
