my naughty, fun breakfast...

Your dog is precious!

I love smoothies! yum.

I just read 'The Kind Diet' this past weekend and have decided to dive right into being a vegan. I had such a hard time reading about what happens to animals :(

I was wondering if you could maybe do a post with pictures of all the unique ingredients you talk about in your book? There are so many things that I have never heard of and it would be great to have a visual and explanation of what things are/taste like.

Thanks for your book- I love it!

Sara

Very informative, you are an inspiration :)

I was just thinking about my low-grade obsession with peanut butter today :)  About 2-3 tablespoons a day is fine for me but more than that can cause issues.  I also love almond butter-- homemade is best and it's so super easy!  :)

Thanks for sharing!

Sounds great-especially the soup. Once a week I make a red lentil curry soup filled with 70% veggies-shredded kale, broccoli, cauliflower, kabocha, onion, celery, carrots, red cabbage, brussel sprouts and some low sodium vegan stock-topped with chopped cilantro. It sustains me through the week as an easy quick healthy lunch packed with nutrients. for extra protein I will serve over a grain.

I've been veg. for 30 yrs and vegan for 5 (was mostly, but hard core vegan for 5!) and I try to stay away from the word naughty in relation to food (unless it pertains to animal products!)

While almost a cup of nuts is a lot-as you pointed out in your wonderful book, by eating Superhero we are naturally thin because of the foods we eat. If you "splurge" it's because your body is sending you a message (and yes, every 28 days I need something a little extra...evne, gasp, a bowl of soy ice cream w/ chocolate chips!). So many women in this country have such a terrible relationship with food and their bodies that anyone who eats as well as we do should eliminate naughty from our vocabulary!

While I mostly don't eat any fruit-I too love an occassional smoothie with whatever fruit is around, some almond milk, water, rice protein powder, almond butter and flax seeds. And I don't consider it naughty!

I used to just pound pistachios and then I started having chest pains when I ate them so I gave them up. I found that peanuts actually kicked off candida for me.

I start the day with about a tablespoon or so of unsweetened almond butter on two rice cakes and it's a great protein boost to kick the day off, but I otherwise leave nuts pretty much out of my diet, except for the occasional cashews in curries.

Okay so you answered the question about why lots of nuts aren't good.  But why smoothies? I'm extremely curious because I had started on smoothies with the raw food cleanse and then kept them up to about 2 per day and found that I actually gained weight.  Just fruit, water and a little protein was all I added.  Why is that not good?

Any suggestions for a quick 5 lb weight loss meal plan?

Thank you for sharing you "real life" experience as a real girl living, and eating on this planet. I have been Macro for about the last month or so, and I am LUVIN it. But I think it is really important to remember to not get too serious and strict with ourselves. Because if we are stressing oursevles out over what we eat, than no matter what the actual food is that we're eating, are bodies will take it in as toxic do to the stress factor.

Being "Naughty" every now and then (especially for Goddesses like ourselves) is really a key to achieving the harmony and balance that we all seek.

Rock-On Alicia,

Blessings!

Hi Carrie -- when I find myself picking up a little weight like that it's usually just that I've changed or added one thing. If I drop it back out of my diet, the weight comes back off. I also mainline water for a week or so to keep my systems flushed.

Good that you caught that smoothies were your trigger.  It may be a sugar rush from the fruit for you -- try swapping in veggies instead of fruit on one of your smoothies and see if that helps. You might also keep a food journal so you can track your weight triggers. Good luck!

You have a wonderful dog. :)

I believe its the sugar content. Carrie.

But I have yet to read the Kind Diet book. Still waiting for Alicia to put it on Kindle.... hint... hint...

Carrie, if you were using a lot of fruit in the smoothies this could be why.  Fruit is good for us, but it is also a lot of sugar so should be eaten in moderation.  Also, if you were using nut butters, soy milk, and things like that it might cause weight gain.

I am a vegan but I am currently eating all raw. i am doing a 21 day cleanse which promotes raw for best results. I have broke out alot which is unusual for me and now i am starting to think it is because of my nut based raw diet!!  THANKS for the tip. I knew they were a bit fattening but i had no idea they could be contributing to my acne. I'll lay off the 'nut burgers' and 'nut taco meat' for a while smiley-wink.gif

I agree about fruit...while I love it, whenever I eat it, I get about 1000 times more hungry then I was before eating it. Then I get hyper, dizzy, and completely scattered. Love the stuff, but limiting it to once a day as Alicia has recommended has really helped me achieve balance.
