my winter wardrobe
Alician, since I went vegan last year, I have not purchased a single article of clothing.  I have a closet full of great clothes that I plan on wearing until I wear them out.  :-)  I too have a bunch of J Crew t shirts, tank tops, sweaters and jeans that I just LOVE.  I am paying close attention to all your eco friendly fashion suggestions.  Someday I will need to buy new things and I appreciate all your ideas.
Please check out Vaute Couture.  The owner is featured on the cover of this month's VegNews magazine.

Her coats are high fashion, 100% vegan, super warm and eco-friendly.

all of this stuff looks really great! Pi Organic looks like so much fun.  I as well love Patagonia.  Can't wait to check the rest of the sites out!
I was going to suggest Vaute Couture but i can see someone's beaten me to it!
My suggestion for dressing for a New York winter is to look at fashion for winter sports.  It sounds like it wouldn't work but more and more outdoor gear companies are designing functional and fashionable clothing.

I think Icebreaker (icebreaker.com) is great company to check out for your long johns or "base layers".  It's a company based in New Zealand that makes clothing from merino wool.  It's a sustainable fiber since the sheep are shorn for the summer and then bulk up for the winter year after year.  Your Icebreaker product will last for years but when it is worn out, you can bury it and it will compost.  The company believes in complete transparency about production.  And every piece of clothing comes with a "Baacode" which allows you to see the living conditions of the sheep that produced the fiber used in your product, to meet the farmers who are the custodians of that land that your sheep lives on, and to follow every step of the supply chain.
I think that's pretty awesome that a great company makes a great product!
No one has recommended Earth shoes! They are my absolute favorite! They have plenty of vegan shoes and even boots, and they are all so comfortable...I love them! They align your posture and tone your calves as you wear them...I suggest you give them a try! earthfootwear.com is their website!
blue canoe has organic clothes and undergarments..and garnet hill has PJ's and  bedding

Hey Alicia, which Adidas are you referring to?  The link just goes to a general site.  Do you know which ones are vegan?  I have a vegan shoe blog and would like to put some on there.  Thanks!
Hi Alicia!

You can find great eco-friendly items at www.etsy.com. It is a site for handmade or refurbished items. You can find eco-friendly clothing, shoes, even paper towels!

This is a great faux cashmere scarf:

I live in Jersey so I know how cold it can be walking in NYC! I hope you find some great items on Etsy.

Lately, I've found a few organic items at Sam's Club. Tops and yoga pants that I wear for working out. The prices are reasonable (~$15) and within my budget.

Finding affordable fashionable vegan clothing and shoes has been trickier for me than adjusting to the food lifestyle. Thank you for posting!!

Can we see a pic of your new Burberry coat?? Sounds like a fab splurge! :) Thanks for the great post!
Laugh if you will, but 66 degrees is really cold for where we live on Oahu.  Where my in-laws live it gets to 54 deg.  Crazy right?!  Some of our winter stuff has been getting good use.  It's so fun too.

Thank you for all the information.  I was just talking about looking for more eco fashion.

God Bless as you have a great day.

Hey Alicia!

Love the site, but I wanted to give a little heads up about clothing made from bamboo, wood pulp, and similar fibers.  They all go through the exact same process as rayon to be made into fabric.  In fact, rayon is wood pulp that's been very heavily chemically treated and then extruded into fiber.  Not really very earth friendly!

I do love the site and the work that you do here, and I really appreciate it.  Keep it up!
