need courage to try a milk alternative!!!
right now im veggie x 7 weeks but trying to move toward vegan. today i found that my FAVORITE cereal that i never buy because its so expensive has 90% of your intake of iron. yippeeeeee! so i snatched it up. and then started thinking that i didnt want to ruin all that goodness with milk.
so i bought some almond milk. it looks yummy. it SOUNDS good. im not a soy fan really so i think this could be good.
but get this. i seriously can not even bring myself to open it up and try it!!! im such a coward!!! i keep telling myself- hello! you're drinking something now that comes out fo a boob! and you're a grown up! how can ALMOND MILK possible be weirder than that?!!?!?

i know its all in what you're used to, but seriously?? just open the carton and try it krysten!!

Omg you will love almond milk its soo delicious i am a vegetarian not a vegan and i prefer almond milk to any other milk choice. once you try it you will never go back its soo amazinggggg
I was seriously the same way. I really disliked soy milk too, but almond milk is wayyy better. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Go for it!!!:)
Almond milk is great in cereal and baking. I only use the unsweetened kind. When I drink black tea however, instead of milk I now use soy milk because I find the almond milk gives the tea an unpleasant taste. I suggest that you try different types of  "milks" and see what you prefer.
Almond Dream almond milk is THE BEST!!!! It is only 30 calories per cup and has very few ingredients and best of all it is SOOOOO delicious!

Be brave! Enjoy! smiley-smile.gif

Peace,
Cassi

I love "Almond Breeze" milk by Blue Diamond. I use it in my oatmeal or cereal for breakfast and its good for baking. Just go for it!
I absolutely love Almond Breeze. Cows milk has always tasted disgusting to me though. Almond milk is the best!!! Try Try Try it.....you'll you'll you'll like! (Can you tell I watch too much children's tv!)
krysten, just go back through and read what all you've read in 'the kind life', or any other vegan book out there. i recommend 'skinny bitch' while the title is a little crude, they really nail the dairy thing-- it's just... really.... gross! especially milk! when you are struggling, just recall all of that, it will help eventually. My choice of words to give you your 'shove'?as Woody Harrelson said in his cute little documentary about green living, veganism, etc.,  "dairy is blood and puss"
Ew. Rice Milk is the one for me. Really light and not too sweet or gritty.
I DID IT!!!!!

i was feeling gutsy when i got home from work, so i sauntered over to the fridge, opened the carton before i could think twice, poured some onto a spoon, and went for it.

oh. my. god. SOOOOOOO YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am a total convert! i cant wait to have it on my cereal!!! yay- small accomplishment!!! lol :)
Another thing to do for people who are trying to get used to a new taste is to start out using half of the milk you are used to and then half of the new milk...slowing decrease the amount of your "old milk" and then you will be used to the new stuff!
Krysten - glad you loved the almond milk! I think it is so much better too. I was a little apprehensive about going vegan too. But I thought I would try it for a week & see what happened. I felt much better but I thought that could also be because I was drinking more water & exercising more. So I had some cheese just to see  - big mistake! I felt bloated, lethargic & just plain gross. So if you're still moving towards vegan you might try giving up dairy for a week too - the results might give you the push you need!

I try to keep in mind - no matter what new and often scary thing I'm trying - it's not a replacement for  - milk, meat - whatever - like the Gardein Buffalo Wings - I tried really hard to prepare my husband that they are NOT wings - just the essense of - and he really liked them.  TOO spicy for me, but the texture was nice - alot like chicken - but I don't need a fake chicken  I'm finding - I really like FRESH stuff!  I feel so alive when I eat fresh stuff.

Have you tried rice milk yet? It's so good. It taste like a better version of skim milk. My three kids adore it!
Kelley, I was scared too, but i tried Soy first and it was good, then almond and i liked it even better, then Hemp and I'm hooked!! I was a HUGE milk drinker and didn't know how i was gonna go w/out my cereal, but to me the Hemp is just as creamy as the skim milk. My youngest son loves Rice milk (i don't). I have been a HUGE milk drinker ALL my life so i understand your fear. It really is easy to switch, and so much to choose from. Hemp choc and Almond choc are favs at my house too!! :p. BTW Kelley, are you or your family from S. Fla? Drawdy is my Grandma's maiden name. I don't hear it too often. In doing family research. I have found a lot of them (us) all came from the same origins in Cork County Ireland. Would be nice to add someone to the Tree. My grandma was Minnie Marie Drawdy, from Miami fl. Her father was Dellmar (Dell) Drawdy, and his father was Corneilus. I have it going back  alot further, but no need to give you anymore unless it sound familiar to you . If not, sorry to bother you. Good luck with your journey into Veganism!
Yes Almond Breeze is my favorite too.  Unsweetened coconut milk isn't bad either...it doesn't taste like coconut at all.
