Non-sweet breakfast ideas

It seems like a lot of vegan breakfast ideas contain a lot of sugary things- fruit, syrup, etc. My appetite is really weird right now in the detox process, and I've been craving savory/salty things at breakfast with my coffee. It's so tempting to eat eggs and toast, but eggs are a definite no-no. Any ideas for breakfast that aren't fried? So far I've come up with daiya cheese in tortillas as quesadillas. Thats it haha. Please help me! (also, feedback on this wretched appetite problem from detoxing is welcome)

In the engine 2 diet book there is a recipe for breakfast tacos. gimme lean breakfast sausage , frozen hash brown potatoes in corn tortillas topped with salsa. You do not really need to fry anything just warm it up.

how about having miso soup and left-over rice? it´s really quick and invigorating! :-)

and concerning the appetite problem- I´m craving sweet things more than ever since going vegan.. any ideas or similar experiences?

I'm not a big fan of sweet breakfasts either, so I often eat scrambled tofu with veggies, whole-wheat toasted sandwiches with veggies (you can use all sorts of vegetables, my favourite is red peppers; you can also add daiya cheese if you like), or different vegan spreads and fresh vegetables on pumpernickel or whole-wheat bread.

Scrambled tofu should take care of the egg craving with some toast.

is there a recipe on here for scrambled tofu? i have a lot of sprouted tofu in the fridge

Kate - I am biased but I think this is the best tofu scramble recipe ever! :)

Hi Kate smiley-smile.giflightly steamed kale and carrots with a slice of whole grain toast, leftover soup and bread, or a stirfry...leftover anything really.  Try putting it in a wrap.  Tofu scrambles are great, yes there is a recipe in TKD.  Sometimes I desire sourkraut for breakfast...weird, I know!

I usually eat porridge with ground flax seed or toast with unsalted peanut butter.

A friend of mine told me that she and her husband make savory porridge.  You cook the oatmeal with water, and then add in some gomaiso and top with a bit of shoyu.  It's actually really tasty!

I find though that when I sometimes crave savory breakfasts, I like couscous.  It's really easy as well. I put the couscous in the bowl, boil some water and then pour it so there is about an inch of extra water and cover.  It cooks itself while I make any extras.  You can add in peas and nuts.  I usually put a tiny bit of organic dairy-free margerine and a little bit of organic veggie gravy powder.  Ground nuts work really well.  Yum!

Lastly, I second the miso soup option!  Had some this morning with sea vegetables and whole grain toast :)

just thought of this...oatmeal or steel cut oats with earth balance and salt and pepper...yum!

Tempeh rashers on an nice organic roll :).
