Office Snacks

My coworkers keep a constant supply of mini candy bars, snickers, milky-way, etc... in a bowl and I can't stand it. I have to walk past the jar several times a day.  Does anyone have any ideas of relatively healthy snacks that don't take much more maintenance than dropping them off on a counter or in a bowl? I know a lot of my other coworkers hate the junk too.  Sometimes we have a can of mixed nuts but that lasts a short time then back to the junk.

Does anyone have an office with healthier snacks? Or any suggestions?

thanks!

I don't know why my original post didn't show up!

Maybe try to find some of the mini Larabars to sit in a bowl on the counter? They're super yummy, and the small sizes are perfect for snacks!

Although there is junk food in my office, we have an empty cubicle at the end of a row that has been named the "food cube".  The only rule to the food cube is that the food inside it has to be healthy.  Of course, each persons' idea of health is a little different, but for the most part, I can eat nearly everything put in there.  We have a sheet we pass out near the end of the month.  Each person signs up for a date if they want, and on that day brings in either a fruit or vegetable tray for the food cube, so each day there is always fresh fruit or veggies to snack on.  There is also always a huge tub of dried edamame and a tub of giant pretzels (vegan ones) in there all the time, along with various other items that are "healthy" to some, but not exactly vegan friendly.  Maybe your office could start a calendar like our office does where everyone contributes healthy snacks!

I struggle with this too. There are a lot of unhealthy snacks around my office. I stash Peanut butter and rice cakes, arrowroot cookies, and pumkin seeds at my desk so I have something handy in a pinch.

Other ideas that I haven't tried - Kale chips, fruit for something healthy or hard candies, pretzels/chips popscicles if you have a freezer.

I thought about making the Raw Balls in Alicia's book and hiding them in the freezer, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Thanks Caitlin, I just had a dried fruit bar from trader joes! Those are pretty good.

Have you made the Raw Balls? I want to try making them, its a good idea to keep them in the freezer in a pinch.  Thanks!

Dried dates with peanut butter.. not exactly transportable or really shareable but if you want something that will make you happy (with the same sweet satisfaction) this is very good! Don't go nuts on them though because dates are packed with sugar even if it is fruit sugar..

Oh.. and another thing you could make a huge batch of granola and put it in a tub with a scoop. You can stick whatever you want in it, but I like cranberries, coconut and lots of sunflower seeds. Very yummy and easy to snack on!

Lindsay B- no I haven't tried them yet.. mostly because I don't have any of the ingredients on hand, but I hope to soon. I hear they are awesome!

Dried mangos! I'm a huge fan of dried fruit. I have a huge bag at my desk. Also, go nutty! Nuts are a perfect way to get many nutrients.

I agree, dried fruit is great and especially mixed with nuts and seeds. I really like dried figs, almonds, cranberries, raisins, pumpkin and sunflower seeds. I also have a weak spot for gummy bears, but prefer Surf's Sweet treats because they use organic and natural fruit juice for flavors.

Kale chips are super yummy and easy to make. I make a batch and keep them in a container. They will keep for a few days but mine never last that long!!!

Any chance you could get rid of the container of chocolate bars and sweets? Take a poll and see who really wants it. Maybe the chocolate bar eaters could buy their own and keep in their desk?

I keep a Snack bowl in my office full of Indiviually wrapped vegan and/or gluten free goodies.

Fruit Leathers, Lara Bars,  Pretzles, Chips, Cookies....Vegan Dark Chocolates... Its all still "junk" food, but it is still "KIND" stuff..

People started to come to my office just to see what "Wierd" stuff I had that day, and eventually they would ask to have meetings, in my office vs. elsewhere so they could have my snacks vs. the pounds of real junk every where else.

Sometimes I sneak in teas or oatmeal or fruit, etc..

I'd say, ignore all the other snack buckets and just make your own!!
