picky eater

i have been flirting since january when i read the book but am a really picky eater.  i like fruits, veggies and grains, just not all of them.  i though it would be a good idea to see a nutrionist since i am so picky but the one i saw at a whole foods store was clueless.  i asked my dr about seeing one but the clinic wont make an apt for me without insurance pre aprroving it and insurance wont approve it because i have no medical condition requiring it.  Can anyone suggest any good books or websites?  Also what is a better choice, choosing local foods at a farmers market that are not organic or driving 40 minutes to a store that carries more that 3 organic fruits and veggies?  the more i stick to the kind diet the better i feel, i guess i just havent learned all the tricks yet!

skinny bitch in the kitch is a good recipe book for vegans, especially if you are still flirting. they have fun recipes that flirts would love. for example they have vegan "bitchtastic brownies" and a section for "down home cooking" as well as soups, salads, dressings, pms foods, etc.  i switch their recipes up a bit to make them more superhero, but that is your choice. if you are a picky eater, i suggest flirting with the vegan processed stuff first to get a feel and that way you dont feel deprived. im fortunate enough that my farmers market offers organic produce, so i get the win win. i would personally go for the organic, that way you arent getting the pesticides, regardless if itslocal. just make sure the ones you choose are fresh and in season! :) best of luck!

Hi Chole,

I've been flirting since April and by making some of the recipes in The Kind Diet, I have discovered that I do enjoy some foods that I had never tried or let alone heard of before - I went into a health food store with a long list of ingredients that I had no idea what they were or what they'd look like in packaging. For instance, the only times I would ever eat lentils are when I'd go to a local Ethiopian restaurant now and then. I had never ever made them before and now I can't get enough. I've also learned to like whole wheat rice when I wasn't interested before, and tofu. I used to be extremely picky with other foods, but now I'm learning to like some things. Slowly but surely. In her response, Alicia gives some great advice - flirt with the processed vegan products first. There are some good ones out there.

I don't own any other vegan cookbooks, but I have heard from my brother that Veganomicon: The Ultimate Vegan Cookbook is pretty good. I found a site with one of their recipes on it and it was good - a vegan Sloppy Joe made with lentils and vegetables, called Snobby Joe. It was soooo delicious! My brother also makes a lot of recipes out of a series of cookbooks from this restaurant called Fresh - I think it's just a chain here in Toronto, but I know you can buy the books all over. Their website is: http://www.freshrestaurants.ca/cookbooks.asp.

Good luck with your journey!
