So I have always taken a probiotic first thing in the morning. This helps me but I was most successful when I also ate some yogurt that day. As you've guessed, my problem is not going. I have never been regular without serious help. When something starts to work... a few weeks later it loses its efficacy. Yogurt was my most reliable friend - although never 100%. It's almost as if my body really doesn't want me to go! Where else can I get the good bacteria besides my morning pill?
Have you tried Wildwood Probiotic Soyogurt High Fiber Unsweetened Plain? If you are eating lots of fiber (whole grains, beans, vegetables) and no dairy, you should not be having a problem "going".
I got a drink at whole foods that was refrigerated that was a non-dairy kefir like drink with lots of good probiotics in it. It was the consistency of watery juice so it wasn't trying to be the consistency of regular kefir. I think it came in different flavors. I don't have the bottle anymore so I'm not sure what the brand was.
You might want to read the April, 2010 issue of Prevention magazine, on page 46 there is an article on Kombucha Tea. It is interesting. It just came out today.
LOTS and TONS of fruits and veggies is the best way to get the mail moving. But you have to eat them every day to get the digestive enzymes to build up. I did colonics during my cancer gig (au naturel treatment) and the therapist had me taking AT LEAST 3 PB's a day. So maybe more pills would do ya. I also take a whole food supplement because I don't eat 10 servings of fruit and veg a day (who can???)...check this out! www.amazingjuiceplus.com Fruits and vegetables in a capsule...how easy is THAT?
My favorite source of probiotics is GT's Organic Raw Kombucha tea. I'm a little skeptical of making my own Kombucha due to some safety issues I read about (you really have to monitor the stuff you grow yourself). I really love this particular brand of drink, and try and have a 1/2 bottle every day. They have different flavors that you can purchase at a Whole Foods or your local natural health store, and you must keep it very cold since its it contains live organisms.
