Problem Areas!

Hey everyone,

I really want to get some advice about my own exercise regimen but figured it'd be beneficial to the forum if everyone posted about their problem areas. So here is the "skinny" I practice yoga 3-4 times a week and run occasionally. I'm pretty fit and toned in my arms, legs, tummy, and butt. But the one area I cannot stand is my thighs!!! I get compliments on the booty all the time but my thighs touch and just kind of gross me out. I know its impossible to "spot lose" weight but does anyone know anything I can do to make em smaller?

Thanks in advance

Hi KathyKat,

I carry weight there too. I'm really lean on top and have a booty and thighs that I have been working hard to lean out. It just happens to be where our bodies accumulate fat. The only way to get it to diminish is to lose overall body fat. I also do pilates and workouts by theFIRM. They have helped a lot, but I still have a ways to go. Maybe up your running/cardio for extra calorie burn.

Best to you, I wish there was a magic fix too!

Hi KathyKat,

I completely relate. I think it is so important to follow a great eating regimen--like Kind Diet Superhero or Vegan. I had a personal trainer who told me that if you eat too little your body will freak out and store fat--so you need the good kinds of fats. And, if you eat too much, well, that is obvious, right? My trainer also told me it is important to do cardio at least 2-3 times a week at a fat burning level. This means that you would do a special calculation to find at what number you need to get your heart rate up enough so that you are burning fat. I believe that there are probably many websites to take your through this calculation and some cardio machines have this information on them.

Now, as for spot areas, well, there is a way to spot treat them. My trainer suggested that I see a Chiropractor that practices kinesiology. This kind of chiropractor can help you straighten your spine and make your workouts more efficient, and can help your posture which will make your body look longer and leaner and more balanced. Also, you can do certain exercises that target your thighs. My favorite ones are from Jillian Michael's video, "No More Trouble Zones". These exercises seriously tone and firm those areas. Another thing is exfoliate your skin. Using coffee grinds will diminish cellulite and firm up trouble areas, at least temporarily. Also, there are many citrus oils and scrubs that will help.

So, there are many things you can do to eliminate this area that is troublesome for you. My trainer also made a fabulous suggestion of visualizing my body the way I envision perfection while taking steps towards this goal, and to appreciate all the assets I have.

I hope these suggestions will help.

Good Luck!

Hey Lindsey,

Thanks for your response. I know I need to do more cardio...thats just time/motivation on my part. I can be really lazy when it comes to working out, which is why I love yoga because its more relaxation/meditation than exercise. I've wanted to get into surfing for awhile too because its therapeutic in a similar way. I tend to get bored with the gym and workout DVDS. BUT I might check out some of the Jillian Michaels ones though because...hey...there must be a reason they're so popular...

I've never even heard of kinesiology but thats interesting too and I will definitely check it out.

I don't know if you're posting on the booty drop but I'd be interested in hearing a sample menu/work out of yours if you don't mind sharing. Sounds like you know your stuff :)
