Shocked by the scale this morning
I started my Superhero journey a little over a month ago and have been loving all the amazing food and eating tons of it.  There hasn't been a minute of depravation, if anything I've been indulging.. (and a few vegan treats have most definitely sneaked their way onto my plate a couple of times a week!)  I've scaled down my workouts from 30 minutes a day to 30 minutes 2-3 times a week, and have added just a little extra walking (we don't own a car so this means consciously walking the extra 10 blocks instead of taking the subway, taking the stairs, the long way around the park, etc.) whenever I can.  No biggie.
Yesterday, I tried on a dress and was surprised to discover that a size 4 fit perfectly (prior to this I was a size 6/8).  I just chalked it up to the cut of the dress or the sizing of the line.  Oh and PS - I bought the dress and it is FABULOUSLY VEGAN.
But this morning, after pulling my jeans on WITHOUT UNBUTTONING THEM, I thought maybe it was time to check in on the scale.  I kinda figured that I had lost a couple of pounds but did not at all expect to discover that I HAVE LOST A TOTAL OF 12 POUNDS.  In a little over one month!
My BMI is now right smack dab in the middle of the "normal" range for my height, I feel amazing, light, lean.  This is the way my body is meant to function.  I can't believe I've lived my whole life otherwise until now.  What a difference.
Vegan living continues to amaze me.  As if it weren't enough that I get to eat amazing food and feel totally great about every bite, I get the added bonus of having my weight "normalize" gently, effortlessly and naturally, and without a lot of sweat.  Just living, loving, laughing... I've never felt better.
I feel truly and completely comfortable in my body and balanced in my life.  For the first time ever.  Just had to share xx
I love it! Congratulations!
Hilary, thank you for sharing your story. That's absolutely fabulous and inspiring. Bravo!
Hilary, that is just awesome! Would you mind sharing what you are eating , maybe  a sample day, or two? Thanks, I know you said "superhero", just wondering how strict. vs "healthy vegan".
Congrats!  Love to hear inspiring stories like yours.  I, too, feel amazingly better, lighter, and leaner.  I had boycotted the scales for the last 2+ months until a week ago.  I had lost 5 pounds and my body fat had decreased as well. My clothes feel much better and aren't "wearing me" now -- what a great feeling!  Although I would like to lose 5 more pounds, I am happy with the way it is slowly coming off and in a way I can maintain but most of all, I can't believe how much better I feel!  What was I waiting for?!  Maybe I should go Superhero and see where it leads me. :)  Thanks for sharing!

Congrats that's so so awesome!!!
That is so awesome!!! Congratulations!!!! It's so inspiring!! I'm down 2 pounds after staring it this week so it is wonderful to know there is more where that came from!! YAY!!!
Congratulations to you!   I've been vegan for the last month and a half (almost) and over the past two weeks have really felt the difference.  I finally feel the "lightness" that Alicia describes in her book and my energy level is way up.  However, I am tired at night because my day starts pretty early.

I'm never deprived of food either.  Just finished a hummus, tomato and sprout sandwich and am totally satisfied.  I look forward to my meals because they are so interesting and delicious.  This is the first time in my life that I've stuck to a "diet" with no trouble at all.  Sorry, I hate the word diet but you all know what I mean.  It has really become a way of life instead of a battle to lose weight and eat right.
Thanks guys!  Your support means so much to me!
DianeJ - as requested, here are a couple "sample days" outlining what I have been eating:
This is what I ate today:
Started my day with a huge glass of lemon water as I always do.
Breakfast was warm brown rice topped with almond butter, fresh pear slices and cinnamon.
Lunch was a "curry saute" of kale, collards, onion, mushroom and zucchini and some curry spice.
Had a small afternoon snack of a couple of raw carrots, about 1/4 cup of walnuts and about 3 prunes (my little trick is to put a small piece of each into my mouth at the same time = makeshift morning glory muffin!  It really is SO good.  Try it!)
Dinner was a stew I threw together - sweet potato, onion, cabbage, garlic, broccoli, carrots, chickpeas, barley, vegetable stock, salt & pepper.  Basically cleaned out the fridge :)
---
Tomorrow, I'm planning:
Leftover barley topped with almond butter, homemade ginger applesauce and cinnamon.
Lunch with be brown rice cakes with hummus, fresh basil leaves and cucumber slices and probably the leftover stew from dinner tonight.
Dinner will be a stirfry made with onion, garlic broccoli, cauliflower, snap peas, bean sprouts, red cabbage, carrots, firm tofu, sesame seeds and cilantro.  I make a sauce out of a little ginger, shoyu and the juice of half a fresh orange.  It's really good.  I might pair this with some brown rice too.
I love cooking and making up recipes!
I'm not sure how strictly these meals adhere to "Superhero" eating, but I think I'm pretty close.  Without a doubt, I'm eating great and feeling FABULOUS.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks again, all!

Thanks so much for the "what I'm eating" meal plans. I have been struggling to come up with stuff without getting bored & that doesn't require a LOT of preparation. The brown rice cakes topped with goodies sounds perfect!

And congrats!
Kirsten
Thanks, Hilary, so much. Its truly helps to hear other's ideas, especially when its really working for them. Your snack tip was great, of a little bite of this and that, and the "made-up" stew sounded great. Keep it up! And keep posting on how you are doing, and what you are eating.
Soo happy for you!  Love it!
Congrats!!! It's stories like yours that help me get through Day 1...which is today. :) Not quite a "Superhero" yet - just "flirting with a vegan" :) I hope I'll be able to post a similar story to yours someday. Congrats again!
well done! so good to hear ;-)
