Toddlers and B12 ? ? ? ? ?

I have changed my toddler over to a vegan diet, and have seen drastic improvement. He is no longer constipated, his red rash on his body (the dr said he had "sensitive skin") is gone, and the little bumps that he always had on his back went away! The only thing that I am wondering is about B12. Do other parents give a supplement?

I have been wondering about this too, I have a 1 year old who still breast feeds occasionally, so he's been getting b12 from me, I haven't been able to find a supplement for toddlers so far, and my doctor says not to worry about it. But I do.

This is only my opinion, but from what I have read, it is important for vegan children (don't know from what age) to have a supplement added. Again, from what I have read, this is especially important if they have had no animal products because an adult who has been eating animals, in most cases, will have B12 stored in their bodies for some time and supplementation isn't necessarily needed immediately; a child without any stored B12 need to get it from somewhere. But that is just what I have read, I wouldn't know what amount and how often would be considered safe to give a child. Maybe do some research on your own and then ask your doctor? (Probably a doctor is not too worried about a one year old who still breast feeds, but a toddler who doesn't might be a different story.)

Yes yes yes!!!  Most vitamins for little ones have a daily recommended amt of B12, but be sure to double check.

Excellent source of B12 in nutritional yeast

If you've never cooked with it before, It's almost nutty and cheesy. A taste kids will really love! I use red star and get it from Whole Foods: http://www.amazon.com/Red-Star-Nutritional-Yeast-Vegetarian/dp/B000173IHE

I use it in so many things, it's really yummy and a vegan source of B12 (and a bunch of other b vitamins). My sister makes popcorn and uses it as a seasoning, YUM!
