umeboshi plum vinegar
so i'm loving this vinegar!! but when i looked at the nutritional list i was floored by the sodium. for 1 teaspoon it's 1050mg!! isn't this a little nuts?
WOW. That I hadn't seen. Sheesh. What can I say...use sparingly? :\
well the plums are pickled in salt so that makes sense....but you're right it does suck
how can this be "healthy" for us?
I Lovee it and have been using it eevryday on my steamed baby bok choy.
a doctor explained it to my cousin....had something to do with Alkaline.  I didn't really understand it, but it seemed to make sense to him.

if you read about macrobiotic diets, they also love umeboshi plum vinegar and the pickled plums themselves.
they both keep your body balanced - l use a bit of brown rice vinegar and plum vinegar together -

I LOVE those plums (and the vinegar and the paste!). I've been using a whole one everyday in the weight loss tea and sucking the pit, and sometimes I just eat one plain. I hadn't even thought about the sodium content - that probably explains why I'm so thirsty!
Where are you finding this vinegar?  A lot of the recipes call for it but I haven't been able to find it...haven't been to Whole Foods yet though, do they carry it?  How about just the Umeboshi Plums themselves?
Yes, Whole Foods carries the vinegar, paste and plums.
The plums are a bit pricey...
Eden foods makes ume plum vinegar
I haven't tried the vinegar yet but I've got it in my pantry... but am I the only one who finds the actual pickled plums themselves gross and inedible???? I felt like I'd just eaten a block of salt. any suggestions for eating them or should I just get the benefits from making the tea?

I bought the vinegar at a local health food store for $2.00 today.  Haven't used it yet.
