Hello there, can anyone direct me to a reliable source that converts US measurement to UK/metric. I am all fired up and ready to go until I realised that your one cup is different to ours and different per food.....is that correct ? I sure dont want to get the receipes wrong being a newbee. thanks very much, clare.
p.s. sourcing ingredients here in Ireland has been very difficult, mochi, burdock, seitan to mention a few. If guinness were required we have an abundance of it !
Hi Clare, I'm Irish although I live in Cornwall now. My advice to you would be to invest in some measuring cups - they're widely available and you can buy them very cheap. I bought mine in John Lewis but I've seen them in virtually every department store. It will make not only The Kind Diet recipes but other vegan recipes much easier to follow. I never use UK measurement anymore and many UK recipe writers, bloggers etc. are beginning to convert to US measurements. I am a blogger myself and never use UK measurements in my recipes. In the meantime, use a small teacup (the kind that comes with a saucer) if you have one - it's approximately the size of a 'cup' and won't affect the recipes. Most of the vegan recipes you'll come across on the internet will be American anyway so making the change to US measurements will be more beneficial in the long run. It's the way forward really because they just make more sense than grams and all that nonsense (in my humble opinion). Hope this helps. Best of luck xx
Hi Aine, thanks for your reply. I do have measuring cups but 1cup is 250ml whereas the US is 236ml. I have looked up John Lewis, House of Fraser and Debenhams but they are all 250ml. Is this what you have been using. Sorry to sound anal about this but I just want to get it right. Many thanks, Clare x
No, the US ones are 250ml too. Maybe some are slightly larger but in recipes they are considering 1 cup to be 250ml so stick with that, and you'll be just fine!
