Would this be considered a SUPERHERO day?
I have been vegan for sometime now, and incorporating the SuperHero aspects into my life more and more each day.

I just wanted to know if this sample day of food would constitute as SuperHero status?

Breakfast: Steelcut oats with milled flaxseeds, with a dash of cinammon and agave/brown rice syrup

Snack: Bananna and Decaf Green Tea

Lunch:  Butternut squash & Onion (TKD recipe) along side a
Mixed Salad Romaine & Argula salad with carrots, onions, shoyu toasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds, sprinking of sesame seeds, cucumber slices, portobello mushrooms

1 Orange

Snack: Rice Crisp treats (TKD superhero version recipe)

Dinner:  Sicilian collards (TKD supeerhero version recipe)
over quinoa

Snack: fresh sliced papaya

Thanks in advanc =)
I believe so, Gina. That is pretty much what my days look like too, but I am having the PB/Choc. rice crispy treats. smiley-innocent.gif I know Alicia would prefer we have veggies at bfast too and less fruit, but I still feel like a "Superhero!"
Also, have you tried quinoa, made the same way as your oatmeal? So good, and my new favorite! The nutty flavor goes really nicely with the cinnamon. I use a dash of vanilla, good shake of cinnamon, drizzle of agave nectar, sprinkle of chopped walnuts (or almonds) and raisins, blueberries and 1/2 cup of almond milk. Delish!
Congrats on being a Superhero!
Peace,
Cassi
Oh I forgot to add...I used balsamic vinegar an a lil bit of EVOO for my salad dressing...that's ok right?

Thanks Cassi!  I was going to make the PB/Choc treats and then opted not to!  It took will power I'll tell ya!  Those must taste so decadent!
I need to try Veggies for Bkfst soon, maybe if I have left overs from tonights Collards I will eat them tomorrow morning?!

Quinoa for bkfst....hmmmm sounds like it would taste good.
I made a huge pot of it yesterday and stored it in containers for the week.  I will have to try some tomorrow morning with cinammon and maybe some nuts.
Thanks for the idea =)
so, would you say that the macrobiotic elements such as pickles and soup (specifically miso) aren't necessary in order to be superhero?  i have no problem adding the pickles (love them!) but find it really hard to have the soup in addition to all of the other healthful things i want and need to eat!

thanks in advance too!

And Gina - your day sounds delicious!!!!!!

btw - i just love this forum!!!

peace,
ilene
It looks like you are eating well. To follow superhero a little more, fruit should be reduced to at most one piece a day (page 100) and include sea vegetables, miso soup and pickled vegetables (page 99). Some grain at lunch is good too.

Ilene this site is awesome, it is such a useful tool in helping me with my new healthier lifestyle!

Veganali You are right...I forgot about limiting fruit to 1x a day! Tx...I purchased Arame yesterday and plan of trying that as one of my 1st sea vegetables, since Alicia says its more milder in taste than the others. Thanks for the suggestions...greatly appreciate em =)

I really like the kombu seaweed, I add it to all of my soups and steam it with my veggies too. I like the Nori as well, sometimes I tear pieces and sprinkle it on soups or make the Nori Burritos from TKD.
I had a "Superhero" bfast the other morning, it was leftovers from the night before.
I had Lemon Quinoa from Whole Foods, Kale salad from Whole Foods, a Whole Wheat (soy-free) pita from Trader Joes and squash/parsnip chopped veggie from Trader Joes.
First I preheated the oven to 350, tossed 1 cup of the squash medley from TJ's in 1 tsp of EVOO and a dash of sea salt and pepper. Put them in the microwave for 3 min to soften them. Put them in the oven for about 10-15 min. I warmed the lemon quinoa. Then I turned the oven up to BROIL ON HI. Cooked them until they were crispy (like home style potatoes). Then tossed the pita in at the last minute to warm it.
I put the quinoa and cold kale salad in the pita and had the squash on the side, SOOOOOOOO wonderful! I also tried slicing the pita open and put it in on broil until it was crispy and it made really good pita chips, then I scooped up the quinoa and kale with the chips. (This is what I had for bfast the following day).
Just thought I'd share the yummy love!

Cassi
If you live in a cold climate try Maple syrup ( the real 100 %) instead of Agave, this time of year it can be very weakening and make you feel mmroe chilly.
Cassi, that breakfast sounds so good....the Lemon Quinoa, is it just plain quinoa seasoned with lemon juice/zest? I love lemon and squeeze it on top of a lot of food, never had it like that.  I would like to make it myself maybe.

Jenny, since reading TKD I am using the Brown rice syrup, pure maple syrup is a great alternative too, thanks!

Since eating this way I know understand how Alicia say's in the book "you will levitate....(well almost)"

I feel so much more aware and in-tune with my body now. All of the the great fuel (recipes from the book) that I am nourising it with!
Lemon Quinoa sounds so good..do you just squeeze lemon on top of it?

So really there should not be any fruit unless it's in season to be a super hero right?

Brown rice syrup is so good and maple syrup I live in canada so maple syrup season is the cold season :)
