I love taking baths! I only recently got into them. Before, I would take the occasional bath…but now I’m taking one almost every night. Now here is my thinking…the reason that I am loving them is because it really puts me to bed. It’s a way to end my day and warm my body energetically, and I end up sleeping more soundly. Plus its just super fun to roll around in the bath like a baby!
My issue is the amount of water that baths take. However, I am a professional small-amount-of-water bath taker. Here is my trick: I only use hot water, I don’t fill the tub up all the way. I get in right away, and I’m not all covered in water, but am still super warm. I just keep adding hot water whenever I feel like it, or if it starts to get cold. This way I am always warm and happy, but never in a full tub of water… ya see? And when I get out of the bath, I am so satisfied that I only used like 3 inches of water, yet had a great, hot, relaxing bath! It really doesn’t use that much water at all! Plus, being veggie means that we use far less water to produce the food that we eat, so it ends up working out! I mean, one 16-ounce steak uses the amount of water that you need for 6 months worth of showers! So even taking baths I am still using so much less water than if I ate a steak once every three months.

I also want you all to be careful not to burn yourselves! What I do is start the water, with the bath plug in, and then stand in the tub, ready to get in. I wait until there is an inch or so of water, and I make a game of it, to see how quickly I can get in the hot water!
It’s not just regular baths that I love…I have recently fallen head over heels in love with bubble baths! I’ve been using the Eco Tools body wash to make bubble baths, and it works great (it’s not from my line of EcoTools products)! It’s called “Clean Skin, Cleaner World” body wash, and it’s made with 98% natural products, is cruelty-free, and really bubbles! I’ve also been using EO Bubble Bath in Rose Geranium & Citrus, and it’s great too.
A lot of body wash and bubble bath products don’t actually bubble that much, which is why I’m so excited that I found EcoTools and EO! Even though the EcoTools product that I use isn’t actually bubble bath, it does the trick!

Also, I don’t take a bath everyday… just when I feel super tired, and that I have used my brain too much and want to come down into my body. For some reason, I want to take baths way more frequently now that I’m in New York! At home in Los Angeles I rarely made the time for them. We’ll see if I bring this new hobby of mine back to LA!
I also JUST moved apartments, so no more bathtub for me! Instead of bubble baths, I’ve been taking quick night time showers with all of the yummie body washes that I love. Stay tuned for a blog on those!
Anyone out there have any great recommendations for bubble baths that smell yummy, are 100% natural, and truly bubble?
i love lush stuff too... the shop always smells really strongly lol but the stuff is fantastic..
(And as far as the egg yolk goes, Lush labels which products are vegan--on their website at least. I haven't been inside a store location.)
Can you use the Ecotools body wash for the face or no???????
Lush TOTALLY labels on their products which is vegan. I love that because i've gone vegan and it's nice to not have to go through ALL the ingredients before I buy something. :)

All this talk of baths, I finally cleaned my tub tonight and got in! I didn't have any bath stuff on hand, so I looked up some homemade bath products online and came up with this, using products I had in my house:
1/2 c. dry oats
1 tsp dried lavender flowers
15 drops JASON Vitamin E Almond Oil (any oil would work: sesame, olive, coconut, etc)
I used a spice grinder to grind the oats and lavender into a powder, then I poured it onto a piece of unbleached cheesecloth, bunched it into a sachet, and secured it with a hair elastic. I put it the pouch in the tub with some warm water and the oil, eventually using the pouch as a sponge. My skin felt *so soft* after, it was lovely! I think it felt even better because of the natural ingredients. Can't wait for another!
I love taking bubble baths! I have a warning, though, that I share with all my friends. A friend of mine worked in a burn unit at a NYC hospital and she said she saw so many serious burns on women who had been taking baths. This is where you need to be VERY careful. She said that the people she saw had been bathing with bath oils and had candles around the tub that had fallen into the bath. Candles and bath oil do not mix. So, please be very careful. I don't use bath oils (other than a little lavender essential oil) but ever since she told me about the bath burns I always keep my candles far out of reach of the tub. I'm not trying to scare anyone, but just passing along the warning.
wow Karin- that is a really good point. i never would have thought of that. I will stick with some bubble bath and a couple candles on the other other side of the bathroom!!!
its funny- was reading this thread the other day and craving a bubble bath. then i did some overly ambitious yoga, went to bed very achy, and the next morning i turned to grab my clothes and this searing pain shot down my right lower back, into my bum, and down my leg. driving into work was excruciating, as was the whole day pretty much. the doctors at work said it sounded like my sciatica. all i could think of the whole day was getting into a bath!!!!! lol. i went home, filled the tub, and climbed in. it was HEAVENLY. between that and some anti inflammatories i was feeling more human the next day, and now i feel back to 100%. yay!
